  1. WordNerd - where do you live and what type of welding is it? (Fabrication shops, oil fields, medical devices, pressure vessels, etc.). In the great state of Utah, I believe the average non-union basic welder (no special certification) makes between $30,000 and $40,000 a year with a fitter making about $40,000 to $45,000 a year. These figures are without benefits and bonuses.
  2. Vort - go, learn, and have fun with it. You never know where a new hobby may take you.
  3. I'm in the steel fabrication industry...I didn't realize that welding and profit could be used together!
  4. 27 and my wife was 29...yes she robbed the cradle.
  5. I spent most of my time between Ajax and Kingston.
  6. JodyTJ, I served my mission in Ontario many years ago. What part of Ontario do you live in?
  7. This meeting has been widely announced in my ward for about a month. Nothing official has been announce by the church other than be there. Considering unit leaders are instructed to keep other meetings, including regularly scheduled block meetings, from interfering with this meeting I think whatever will be discussed is of significant importance. I can think of a few things that can be taking place at the meeting based on a "trial program" some of the Stakes in at least Utah have been participating in concerning the ward missionary efforts. I have not been in one of the trial programs so I don't feel comfortable trying to explain it. Or it could be the Brethren just want to introduce us to the Three Nephites so all the speculation about their where about can be put to rest.
  8. The Garden Room is South of the Creation Room. (I double checked my memory with a google search of "salt lake temple blueprints" to verify.) Don't know about the painting or the statue, but I do know there are many members who don't like it when I say certain paintings that we use have a "catholic feel". I'm somewhat surprised that the missionary didn't know about the proper location of the old Endowment House - I thought that was pretty common knowledge.
  9. Started off as 11 year old Scout Leader followed by Emergency Prep Specialist which was followed by EQ Secretary and I am now currently the Ward Clerk.
  10. I've used sketchup for different projects over the year. Just be warned it gets addicting if you have various project going through your mind.
  11. I tried that this past Sunday, but my little girl is getting to big and kept moving around as soon as I would nod off a little.
  12. I sometimes sleep through sacrament meeting too, but then my wife nudges me and wakes me up. :) I've tried telling her that if her first meeting on Sundays started at 6:30 AM that she would feel like sleeping too...but she still continues to nudge me if my head starts to bob around. On another note we are are going on year two of 9:00 AM church, but sacrament is last so people are only coming in late for Priesthood & Relief Society.
  13. The difference for me due to Social Security is -$40.00 per check.
  14. There was a branch on my mission where things felt so toxic within the branch that my companion and I both had the distinct impression that we needed to focus on strengthening the branch and ending the toxic issues within the branch before we could bring investigators to Sunday meetings. After about 6 months the branch members were finally playing nicely with each other and supporting each other. Then about 3 months later the branch had its first convert baptism in years. Sometimes a ward / branch needs people to move into its boundaries and help with a "little house cleaning." If you can see if you can get the missionaries involved in visiting ward members (especially those in leadership callings) and have them share messages about working together and coming together as a family ward. It was during these visits we learned about some of the toxic issues and then were able to visit with those involved and share relevant messages to help facilitate the healing.
  15. I've heard the story before, but I've never been given a source for it.
  16. I’m still trying to get over the fact that someone thinks scientology is scarier than us Mormons!
  17. I didn't become active in the church until I was 19 and I was 21 when I left on my mission. Yes, I had to put life on hold (I had a good job and only a year left of college) and I had to deal with parents who were not supportive, but I knew what I had to do. Pray, Fast, Read the Scriptures, and then LISTEN for answers. You have two good options before you, you will not be left alone is making this choice. Also, if you haven’t received your patriarchal blessing yet talk to your Bishop about having this done, it may provide answers as well. I know many friends who were instructed in their patriarchal blessing that they would serve a mission. In mine I was only told if I had the desire to serve a mission then I would have the choice to serve.
  18. Check out Daybreak (Utah Homes - Homes, Shops, Schools in Utah's Best New Community) its in South Jordan, UT. But we don't have a gun range.
  19. From what I have read, Eowyn and Vort have hit the nail on the head to the solution needed. I live in the Daybreak area where our wards have had up to 500+ attending sacrament (no joke! Our Sacrament meetings have looked like what other areas have for Stake Conf.). And our primary kids have always out number the adults and we often had (4) nurseries with 12 to 18 kids each. When the parents do as Eowyn and Vort have described the Sacrament meeting can be more enjoyable and reverent for everyone involved. I know we did the same thing with our daughter and now that she is 5 we don't have any issues and really haven't for about 3 years.
  20. Our little ward activity starts at 9:00 AM at the school. I just noticed I had the directions reversed on the map. The kids will start to ride their bikes around 9:15 or so, I don't think we have ever started ridding at 9:00. Those not riding in the parade, are encouraged to cheer the kids on from the side of the street. This isn't a big event, but it is a lot of fun for those who participate. Our ward recently split again so I'm hoping that everyone in the neighborhood still participates as it's not meant to be a ward only thing.
  21. Our ward (the Daybreak 4th in South Jordan, UT) will be hosting our annual Pavilion of Fire (not to be confused with BYU’s Stadium of Fire) on the Fourth of July for all those who live in our area. We will have a bike parade (the kids decorate their bikes) going from the local elementary to the park & pavilion across the street from our Stake Center, it a “grueling” 0.3 mile bike ride or walk. And by “grueling” I mean it’s practically flat or slightly down hill. Then we have short flag ceremony and breakfast. Our parade route: Mille Lacs Dr to Topview Rd - Google Maps
  22. So to try and bring this back on topic, can anyone hot wire a salmon?
  23. My wife and I have been trying for about 4 years now and still nothing even though the doctors say she is fine and they don't think I need to be checked since we have had a child and we have also had some miscarriages along the way. Our latest attempts to help things along have been to "chart everything" and my wife has also been going to acupuncture. And while we haven't conceived yet the acupuncture has helped with some other "women issues" my wife was having.
  24. In our ward its mostly just the young men out by themselves, unless some adults are asked to help that day. But our houses are so close together and our ward boundary is so small it makes since for them to walk.
  25. Female...(crossing fingers, hoping I'm right)
