  1. Paul, you said: The stories in the BofM are true. All of them. Have you read the one where the Bro. of Jared made these submarine things. Read a little physics, and then try not to laugh out loud.

Cal, Our religion is based upon FAITH, the first principle of the gospel. It's that simple. When Jesus returns again there won't be any more faith because we will see him for who he really is. That will be a great day! Sadly, for those who refused to believe on him through faith will be found wanting because his gospel will not be in their hearts. Paul O
  3. Laurel--you need to read more carefully. I didn't say the church was FORCING people to change. It is simply trying to persuade them to do so. I was a missionary. I was part of it. By the way, you are mincing words by saying the church isn't trying to change people, just trying to show people a better way. Same result. You change them. Sure it is not forcing anybody. I'm simply pointing out the intentional outcome ie. to change people's religion from what ever they have, to mormonism.
  4. I know the feeling. Sooner or later I'll get a life and quit this nonsense!
  5. Sounds a bit totalitarian to me. "Follow me over the cliff guys. When we get there I promise you'll sprout wings".

    Tao--assumes facts not in evidence!
  7. Laurel---are you saying I'm wrong---that the LDS church is not interested in changing the way people are? By the way, how is that necessarily a criticism. Some people need to change how they are...I applaud the church for trying. I just don't agree with the pitch line.
  8. The fact that it is not a "life changing discipline" says nothing about its importance. The fact that religion has played an important part in man's evolution hardly changes the revolutionary changes for the good wrought by science.
  9. Further.....", though often distorted, " is an important phrase. I reveals the authors ignorance as to just what Q was. One thing it wasn't.....Jesus. The earlies references in archaeology go no further back than 1000 years.
  10. Snow--speak for yourself. When I think of what science has done for humanity, my chest wells up and I get a warm fuzzy feeling all over. What do you mean science doesn't do anything for the soul?!

Kind of like the early Saints of early Utah! But, hey, now we're mainstream, we don't have to be paranoid anymore!
  12. What, by the way, would "evil" or "ill" speaking consist of?
  13. I'm curious. Do any of the TBM's on this site (like Ray, Peace or AFD) think God ordered human sacrifice?
  14. Tao--the evidence against the Q comparison is that Q was a myth that originated WAY after even 400 AD.
  15. Don't tell the mormon church that. They very much count on being able to change the way people are.

I would, but I can afford them! Plus, I can't find enough programs compatible. I do, however, like the idea of the underdog taking a bite out of the big mutt. And I have to say, I'm tired of how often Windows 98 crashes.
  17. Snow--Einstein revolutionized scientific thinking. He provided the basis for the development of techologies like Television, the atomic bomb, nuclear energy, as well as a whole new view of the basic nature of the universe. The ripple effect of his work has arguable been every bit as impressive as the development of a new religion. In the long run, probably greater.

Yeah....I quess we'll have to wait until Intel can get its act together.
  19. I agree. Man seems very incline to wishful thinking. It's probably easier than enduring a world full of ambiguity.

    What Adam?
  23. Einstein came up with Special and General Relativity, as well as explaining the Photo-electric effect, which qualified him for a Nobel Prize at around the same age. So, that takes care of the age part. As far as a gift for story telling----it is not unprecedented in history. You don't need a Ph. D. in anything to tell a great story, just a vivid imagination.
  24. Thanks, anti-. I guess when a person dispenses with the requirement of logic and evidence, ANYTHING can become true. This is what is scary about Ray and AFDaw---all it would take is some other charismatic to come along, with a BETTER "feeling", and away they would go.
