  1. Nope, still nothing, I'm at about 6 weeks now.
  2. I sent my papers in over a month ago now. I'm patiently waiting, it's taking forever.... I'll let you guys know where I'm sent as soon as I find out. But if it's not today I'm calling up the President to see what's up. :-P
  3. That's awesome! Congratulations! :-D When do you report?
  4. That's awesome. It's so important really that he's prepared for any call. A lot of guys get really discouraged because the expect a certain place, then they don't get it. But that's the perfect attitude. :-)
  5. Mine are in too. :-P Maybe I'll meet him.
  6. Wow, that is a long time. Let us know when you get it. :-)
  7. Haha, oh, okay, that makes sense. :-P
  8. Haha, is the laugh button gone off this site?
  9. I just found this: President Joseph Fielding Smith taught: “This is an occasion when the gospel should be presented, when we should be called upon to exercise faith, and to reflect on the mission of our Redeemer, and to spend time in the consideration of the saving principles of the gospel, and not for other purposes. Amusement, laughter, light-mindedness, are all out of place in the sacrament meetings of the Latter-day Saints. We should assemble in the spirit of prayer, of meekness, with devotion in our hearts” (Doctrines of Salvation, 2:342). This makes good sense applying to the sacrament meeting. But my understanding of the scripture was that it applied to the whole sabbath day.
  10. I can't believe nobody has talked about this talk. It was so awesome and there was a huge prophecy. This is amazing: "It has been my privilege during the past six months to meet with leaders of countries and with representatives of governments. Those with whom I’ve met feel kindly toward the Church and our members, and they have been cooperative and accommodating. There remain, however, areas of the world where our influence is limited and where we are not allowed to share the gospel freely. As did President Spencer W. Kimball over 32 years ago, I urge you to pray for the opening of those areas, that we might share with them the joy of the gospel. As we prayed then in response to President Kimball’s pleadings, we saw miracles unfold as country after country, formerly closed to the Church, was opened. Such will transpire again as we pray with faith." (Emphasis added.) I'm so excited about that.
  11. D&C 59:15 And inasmuch as ye do these things with athanksgiving, with bcheerful chearts and countenances, not with dmuch elaughter, for this is sin, but with a glad heart and a cheerful countenance— Hey there I was just reading this section last night and this part struck me, "not with much laughter, for this is sin." It's a sin to laugh a lot? Haha. I seems to me that especially Gordon B. Hinckley and Joseph B. Wirthlin taught strongly the opposite. I recognize that it's important to be reverent and respectful, but I don't fully understand this. What are your thoughts?
  12. Yep, Elder Ken W. Pearson and President Uchtdorf's talk in the Priesthood Session were both big highlights for me. :-) It's been so great to review.
  13. It can definitely be crazy when a missionary gets home after 2 years. Life comes at those young men fast and it can be hard to remember to write people. However, I have found with Facebook that it has been infinitely easier to keep in touch with missionaries who have moved on. I keep in touch with many of them. :-)
  14. I should add, she is reading the Book of Mormon.
  15. Awesome, this is cool. I'm reading the Qu'ran now. My girlfriend is Muslim.
  16. Yeah, like they told Donny Osmond not to go on a mission because the work he was doing was good enough. I believe it was Spencer W. Kimball who told him to just keep doing what he was doing. To answer the topic of the post, of course missionaries can teach celebrities, but as mentioned it isn't always easy to get in touch with them.
  17. I can further agree with the journal suggestion. I started writing in my journal about 4 years ago and it has changed my life. As a mother, I would suggest make the Gospel very present in your home. Leave the Ensign on the table, play church music in the home, be very supportive of him and always listen to what he has to say. As far as the logistics, as mentioned before, you'll receive a list of what he'll need when you get the call. :-) Exciting! :-D
  18. I assume your leaders would discourage a second one, just as nowadays men usually can't go on a mission after 25. Just take it one day at a time and live it up. Live Elder Bednar's counsel to be a missionary now. You'll be greatly blessed. :-)
  19. I just had my final interview today. I was told you can get your temple recommend as soon as you get your call. You should be expecting your call within the next week I'd say, if you sent it before conference.
  20. I shouldn't even take 6 weeks. Definitely try to verify they got in.
  21. Taiwan is a different country and Hong Kong is not considered a part of mainland China. Both Hong Kong and Taiwan do have missions though and many missions worldwide have Mandarin and Cantonese speaking missionaries. Proselyting is prohibited in mainland China. There are LDS congregations that meet in China though.
  22. I slept through almost all of this movie, but 2 of my roommates who endured the whole thing assured me I was better off catching up on sleep.
  23. “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” - Aristotle
  24. Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. - Dr. Seuss If everybody else could dream, why not you? Why are other people more qualified to dream than you? Your dream is yours. - Mos Def
  25. I wouldn't worry about it. A lot of the invites are forced. Most of your friends probably don't even know what they're doing. It's a vicious cycle. :-P
