  1. Where do you think he got the idea of polygamy? According to him, you guys are the ones who aren't being faithful followers of Joseph Smith. I was taught that whoever still did that was excomunicated. He obviously didn't listen.
  2. I went to a chatholic school (When I was chatholic) and they told me that Jesus was God's incarnate in the flesh.... but that makes no sense... Why would I be here? My understanding is directly linked to Jesus and God and the Holy Ghost being VERY SEPERATE but one in purpose... to get us to return home.. And that Jesus is on the right hand of the Father, and that the Holy Ghost is our guide on earth. THAT is understandable doctrine, and I believe Jesus spoke plainly to us and that He would not give us anything that would confuse His children..
  3. Sorry.. they arn't accountable. I know that children below the age of eight are not accountable for their sins, and that is why we don't baptise them.
  4. AH! SICK! I thought people still doing that were EXED! WHY ARE THEY CALLING HIM A MORMON! ARGGG!!!
  5. No... you confused me more... The trinity states (and correct me PLEASE if I am wrong) that the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost are one and the same... were I, as LDS, believe that they are one in PURPOSE. I don't get the diagram, because it contradicts itself.. :S
  6. I know children before the age of 8 don't sin... and I know after baptism, all of your previous sins are washed away, but what if you didn't fully understand one of the laws? And you learn a little part of it and think, "wait a second..".
  7. Okay.... God is fair, and we shall all be judged fairly, so say you sin in ignorance, and you find out it was a sin, and you stopped doing it anyway, but now you know it was bad... you stopped just because you didn't want to... So now you sinned, but you didn't know.... but it was a while ago, and you feel it is in your past. Do you still need to go through ALL the steps of repentance, or if you have stopped, and don't want to do it anymore, and havn't wanted to in forever, are you okay? Would you know if you are okay? If you feel like you are forgiven anyway, are you forgiven? Is that up to the person to decide?
  8. I agree. We are being asked stupid questions so he can find more reasons why we are all lying and faithful to a false religion! He has made no points, and now is saying we don't look at both sides, when I PLAYED the part of both sides! I am not something to be tested on! I don't mind honest questions, but this is a little bit nuts.
  9. You believe in the trinity? That makes no sense though! Didn't you read the story where Jesus got baptised? He was there as all three! THAT IS NUTS! He also never says they are one. He is always stating the oppisite! They are always saying, "Thou art the Son of God" like in Mark 3:11, And Jesus says this: "I assend unto my Father, and your Father; and my God, and your God." That was John 20:17. There are more calling him the Son of God, and of Him saying He is sent from the Father... but I would have to quote the whole bible. (Even when I was chatholic and was force fet such things, they never made sense!
  10. What kind of evidence are you talking about? In Mosiah 10:4-5 it says (BoM.. why I have faith... my evidence), that is you read these things and wanted to know if it was true, then ask God, and you would KNOW it was true (if it was.. if things arn't true you get this gross lousy feeling and that is never good). Also, the James 1:5 scripture in the bible says to ask God if you want to know something... Like I said before.. you are a christian.. why wont you ask God?
  11. Although you mentioned how you pretty much wouldn't believe us unless we clicked pro-mormon (thus making that poll a waste of your time...) when I was researching mormonisn, I was an anti-mormon trying to figure out why mormons were so flippin' nutty, and why they think they have to go out of their way for things they believe in, like keeping the sabbeth day holy, which to me was these freaks don't do anything fun on Sundays... so I researched mormonism via both. First anti-mormon, and then mormon, but a BETTER way to do it is to research maybe non-members who actually know facts, and THEN take those FACTS to anti-'s and members....
  12. Well, actually I am a Repubitarian, (the only one so far) 75% Libertarian and 25% Republican, but ACLJ does rock dosen't it? Thanks again :) Josh B) I know the book of Abraham, and since I feel attacked, I will answer your question about the diagram of the sacrafice... either Joseph Smith completed it with revelation, or whoever found that got it wrong, OR they are making it up because they wantred to "challenge" our faith. I have read it and prayed about it. There is nothing wrong with it. It is truth... that just means that whatever they have.. isn't. That's fine, but would you be so kind as to point out to me which Bible passage prophecies of a restoration? Im afraid Im not aware of that one. On the other hand, there is a mention or two about a "remnant" that would be god's faithful. Perhaps your friend confused the two? Of course, Im not trying to dissuade you from your beliefs, Im just trying to be practical and consistent. :) Don't worry. I went though ALOT of crap earlier about my church, and I confermed all of that in my heart. I wont be dissuaded. You wanted a scripture? I think I had two, but here is the one I found just now (I am not very good pulling them up very fast... I am faster with the BoM). Acts 3:19-29.. mostly the last verse, but the first two for better understanding! The Pearl of Great Price was the first book I read, and I read it with my dad with a manual, so I was blessed to get a testimony of that first!
  13. Well,I wont pretend to be familiar with any of that, and it isn't mentoned to me, so it must not be crutial to salvation.. But I do know this, Those theories may or may not be true, but what is true, is that although he is a scholar, he is still human, and is not perfect. You are a christian, so you can pray before you read it to filter out anything that may not be accurate. I hope that you look to the Spirit when you are researching! Also, MOST IMPORTANTLY... James 1:5 " If any of ye lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."
  14. Although I don't know why my name (although spelt wrong) was mentioned specifically, yes, I am here to have serious descusions, and I was actually looking for a place that would give me a break from defending myself. ALTHOUGH I wanted a break, I realize a bigger testimony comes from when it is tested a little, and someone is inspired to put something down (like that black mormon site was super great in another thread). It builds up my testimony A LOT. Although there alot of skepticals out there, I feel totally safe, because of the few people here who are strong, and even a few nice Christians not part of the LDS church.
  15. No. It happened to a friend of mine. Sorry, but I didn't lie. Ya, I know. That is why missionaries would be excited? Also, the bible DOES talk about a restored church, so why could a bible scholar not know that? And no other group claims the need because no other group has it.
  16. Nice post Ray! I was actually recently told a ture story about that! The missionaries were going door to door, and a bible scholar let them in. They enter, and ask what he wants in a church, and he said "I want it to follow everything the bible says the church of God should have." So they are like, "Okay. What do you think it should have?" And the man said, "They have to claim revelation from God" and the missionaries where like, "Our church does!" and they told of prophets and todays prophet. Than the man said,"It has to be a restored church." And the missionaries were like, yey inside, and told of the restoration. After, the man said, "The true church has to worphop on a Saturday".. and the missionaries were like... "Oh.... well, we don't, but we will come back when we can explain that to you!". They came back the next day and told how Jesus died on a Sunday, and we worship on Sundays to comemorate that. He was still like, "No... it has to worship on Saturdays." They eventually just said, "Your problem isn't with Sundays. It is with the Book of Mormon. Either it is true or it isn't." They Challenged him to read it, and he did in about a week or something like that, and decided he had no problem with Sunday worship. "True doctrine understood changes attitudes and behaviours."
  17. Well, considering I was anti-mormon, I am pretty sure I have a good idea. I couldn't care less if you believe me or not. I could not care less if you thought everything I said was lies. As long as I know what I am saying is truth, I am fine.
  18. I only read the first part because I don't have the attention span for an essay. How can I know what it is like without seeing it? Because I get an anti-mormon influance everything I talk to my mother, and I spent a day researching anti-mormon sites. "I hope you look at both sides" I used to hate mormons. I was ON the other side.
  19. I went to an anti-mormon site and I searched through it soo hard because I wanted to know why they are the way they are.. (mostly because my mother is an anti-mormon), and so all I found were lies... about Joseph Smith and the whitnesses not even existing and about our doctrine. I don't need to see another to have that more-so confirmed. I anwsered the questions, and I am not changing my anwsers.
  20. In all fairness, he is asking Mormons now. And complaring it to what is said in the anti mormon site. He is ignoring that there could be no truth behind what they are saying... and asking us basically to credit what they are saying. I am just being truthful. They are lying!
  21. I am a convert so I only really know alot about how I know it is true, and my own testimony..but I would love to try and anwser! 1. How/why did you become a believer of Mormonism? I was a devout chatholic, and as you might guess, some of their beliefs are different. I came across sister missionaries and talked to them.. just to know.. and I ended up feeling the spiirit soo strong I got baptised. That was lats year. I am 16 now. 2. What is your main attraction to your faith? The spirit, and how I have a testimony of every aspect of it! I have had REMARKABLE miricles in my life through the power of prayer, and REMARKABLE healing through the atonement. 3. What do you think that Evangelicals believe about Christianity? (God/Jesus/Salvation/Bible) I don't know about them specificly, but most christian denominations believe you just have to believe that Jesus was the saviour and died.. but that, to me, ignores the atonement.. 4. What do you think are the serious differences between Mormonism and Christianity? Why? Woops... stated above! Also, we don't believe in the trinity...because remember the bible story where Jesus got baptised? G-d said, and then the Holy Spirit came down... That makes no sense if they are all one. 5. Briefly, what are your views regarding: a)Highest Source/Authority (writings, leaders, etc), b)God, c)Jesus, d)Spirits, e)Humans, f)Salvation, g)Church/God's People, h)Future/Afterlife a)He is inspired and I love him! b)Always looking out for us. Everything is to make us happy, and it works! He also wants us to come home. c) He saved me through his sacrafice d)They exist. Some good, some bad. e) lots quite mean.... but they have good hearts if you look deep enough. g) I hope they keep strong h)Excited! 6. Do you now, or have you ever had any doubts about Mormonism? If so, what are those doubts, and why? Yes... I moved in with my father and was like.. I will NOT join your church. The whole thing did not make sense to me. I am glad I changed. I doubted the prophet and the book of mormon, and because I didn't want to give it a chance... mostly because my mom would have hated me... and she does. 7. Do you have assurance of salvation? Yes.
  22. You can't help your feelings, but you can not steady date until you are 18, because you arn't supposed to anyhow.
  23. People are capable of lies. I just tell the truth. I don't need to visit an anti mormon site to know what it is like. I like that 90% of what they say is pure lies, and the 10% is taking information and assuming something totally different because of it. I will NOT visit your site and give it more hits, when it obviously does not know what it is talking about. I know what I am talking about. I AM a member, so I have the REAL information. If you wish to compare it to anti-mormon crap, that is your choice... but I will NOT follow you. ps. I know you want a mormon perspective... but you went to anti mormon materials first... What religion are you? if any. Jewish? I will ask a neo nazi and get back to you? Christian no denomination? I will ask an anti christian Jesus hater. Why would you collect lies first? That makes you colder to the truth!
  24. (1) If the Book of Mormon is true then, considering the way it was "translated" why have there been any changes made to it? We didn't. (2) If The Book of Mormon is true then why does it seem to copy the KJV of the Bible? Even so far as to copy the words that were added by the translators, and errors in the Hebrew? Because those are the principles we need to know. "If an angel were to visit you, what would he say? He would probably quote scripture." Those were prophesies (sp?) (3) Why is there no archeological evidence of the Book of Mormon's claims? And why does the evidence seem to contradict it? E.g. the animals, crops, and metalworking. www.jefflinsday.com There is! (4) If Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, then why did some of his prophecies fail to come to pass? None of them did. They are still being fulfilled. (5) if the other scriptures (e.g. The Book of Abraham etc.) are true why do they seem to contradict each other? The bible does too. It is just a different angle. Not contridiction. Depends on how you look at it. You need evidence for me to explain better. (6) And how do you explain that the Book of Abraham does not read as Joseph Smith claimed it did? He never finished!
