  1. I wasn't sure where to post this and felt silly asking anyone at church. You are supposed to fill it out with your name right?? After I filled mine out and sealed it I got to thinking about it and wondered if I did it correctly.
  2. Thanks for the detailed clothing answer. I did mean for the baptism only, but I've also been curious about regular Sunday attire. Most of my clothes are sleeved, casual. Dresses and skirts are at or below the knee. I had to go to our local thrift to and actually buy skirts -- I've never worn them before (and I don't work outside of the home) so I had nothing appropriate for church and I feel like what I do have is probably really outdated, but oh well. I've always dress pretty conservative so that was not a big issue for me. My children don't own any suits, ties or slacks. We've been wearing school uniform-type clothing for our older children since we have it on hand. Our younger ones wear khakis and collard shirts, or "casual Easter Sunday" attire. haha! I feel out of place with the way we dress, but this is our best and I don't have the money to spend on anything more at the moment. I'm sure God understands this even if some members of the ward have made comments to about it. :/ I went today and bought white under garments and a white scrunchie. I'll take my own towel. And a friend said to take pictures before hand, so I'll do that too. I'm feeling very excited now.
  3. Quin, it's too cold here for even cap sleeves! I'll be wearing a sweater for certain. Thanks for the tip though. That's something I'm going to have to get used to since I've always been a tank-top in the summer type of girl. :)
  4. Haha! I'll be sure to take a change of clothes. I do have a date set for this week! It's coming up very soon. Thanks for all the great advice!
  5. The missionaries basically just told me to wear my hair up, and white under garments. What about fingernail/toenail polish? Should my hair scrunchie be white? Are the jumpsuits see through? Should I bring my own towel? What should I wear to the church? Also what about my husband and our children? Another family is planning the whole thing for me. Is a thank you card appropriate? Is there anyone else I should give thank you cards to?
  6. Hi there! I'm married, four kids at home, I work from home. We live in the pacific northwest (USA). My baptism is this week and I'm so nervous. I think mostly because no one in our family is supportive of it (my husband is neutral on the topic. Though he would rather me not do it). I am sure I'll have a ton of questions in due time.
  7. Wow. I could have written your post word for word. Except I'm the wife in my situation and I am the one wanting more so keep that in mind when I say what I do. We have four children all under 10. I do think your marriage has other kinks and not because your wife wants more children, but because of other things you've indicated). And I do think you should address them and correct them before having another child. Your wife is manipulating and controlling you from the things you've said and that's not healthy and needs to be addressed. I think the issue about more children should be discussed and resolved only after you address the other issues. But for now, I would let her know that you're not comfortable at this time in having another child (I wouldn't say you 100% don't want anymore until after other issues are fixed, don't go out and do anything permanent.). I'd also let her know that you desire counseling and I think you should go, even if you start out alone. It can be a great help to help you communicate better with your wife and eventually open the door for her to go with you. You can lead a horse to water but you cannot force them to drink it, but you can set an example and control your own side of the marriage and yourself.
  8. What would I do? Be graceful and go. It sounds like your husband really wants to, and you should be supportive of him. It doesn't mean you have to be best friends with her. I do understand it's a hassle for your husband with work, but sisters only get married once (in a while, for some). It might be something he'd always regret if he doesn't take the opportunity to go. I say this from my own family experiences. There are a lot of functions I do not want to attend. I feel uncomfortable around my in-laws. I know they look down on me. It's always a lesson in humility when I'm around them. But I do it anyways because I love my husband and in the long run I know that he'll appreciate me being supportive. I also know that being around them is temporary.
  9. This thread is old, but I found it very interesting! I don't think of my family tree as a fact once I get to the 1200's. It's just so washy. I was able to trace my father's side back to Adam through Irish and Scottish royalty. Adam would be my 142nd paternal great grandfather. I don't know how accurate it is and I tend to be doubtful about it. On my mother's side I was able to trace our family back to 1360 to my 18th maternal great grandfather. It's fairly accurate and I've been able to use historical records to confirm genealogies with the help of relatives who still live in England and have access to it.
  10. No one has told me anything about what happens after my baptism is complete. I'm not sure what to expect or what I should do. It's coming up very soon and I'm wondering what my next steps are. Frankly I hadn't thought about until today when some things came up at church which left me with some questions once I got home and thought about it more. Someone mentioned needing a member number to do certain things online. Will that be available to me right away or does it take time to get that? Do I just ask the Ward Clerk or the Bishop? Also my friend recommended I ask for my patriarchal blessing. How soon can I request this and how do I request this from? I also saw mention of a limited temple recommend. Can someone explain that to me also? ETA: Also, how do I pay my tithes? Silly question, I'm sure. I know how much to pay, I'm just not sure where I take it or put it. I saw someone hand the bishop at our ward a tithing envelope today. Is that how everyone usually does it? Thanks!
