  1. I don't see the problem exporting a few turkeys.....it's not as if they are symbolic of politicians.
  2. On the TV series M*A*S*H, they had the character Sydney Freedman, a psychiatrist, and nobody protested. May you have a happy and rewarding trip.
  3. Not to get off topic but to make a comparison: Stanley Tookie Williams, the convicted multiple murderer and Crips gang co-founder executed.....Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan compared Williams' trial and execution to those of Jesus. Both, he argued, were innocent men executed for political reasons. Williams final statement before execution: "My lack of fear of this barbaric methodology of death, I rely upon my faith. It has nothing to do with machismo, with manhood, or with some pseudo former gang street code. This is pure faith, and predicated on my redemption. So, therefore, I just stand strong and continue to tell you, your audience, and the world that I am innocent and, yes, I have been a wretched person, but I have redeemed myself. And I say to you and all those who can listen and will listen that redemption is tailor-made for the wretched, and that's what I used to be…That's what I would like the world to remember me. That's how I would like my legacy to be remembered as: a redemptive transition, something that I believe is not exclusive just for the so-called sanctimonious, the elitists. And it doesn't—-is not predicated on color or race or social stratum or one's religious background. It's accessible for everybody. That's the beauty about it. And whether others choose to believe that I have redeemed myself or not, I worry not, because I know and God knows, and you can believe that all of the youths that I continue to help, they know, too. So with that, I am grateful…I say to you and everyone else, God bless. So take care." I do believe that there is a difference between Jesus' Crucifixion and Williams' execution; The crucifixion being mercy and the execution being justice
  4. Chocolate: A taste of heaven. Bunny: They leap, just as Jesus lept out from that tomb. Jelly-beans--generic for Jelly Bellies, a favorite of President Reagan, who was pro-life and installed God-fearing justices. What? This is not working for you? How about: nothing. We enjoy the cultural trivialities, and use our church and Easter programs to celebrate the real reason for the season. Wise observers know that Christianity is probably more about Easter than it is Christmas. Bunny: They hop. Jelly Beans: Became Easter candy in the 1930's to symbolize eggs. Bunnies & Eggs are symbols of fertility. Colored eggs are a symbol of the rainbow. Chocolates are simply treats. Goddess of Fertility Easter got its name from Ostara, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of fertility and rebirth. European tribes celebrated the beginning of spring at the vernal equinox, when day and night are equal in length, by blessing seeds for growth and placing colored eggs on an altar. They believed that this ceremony would bring them fertility for the upcoming year. Christian missionaries noticed that this pagan celebration took place around the time of the resurrection of Christ, so they adopted Easter as a Christian holiday to increase conversions to Christianity.
  5. The government environmentalist have been urging all communities across America to upgrade their waste water systems which are regulated by law. The problem is that no one wants to pay for it. All believe that it should be paid for the the federal government. While the debates heat up so is the planet.
  6. According to the "green house affect", we are producing much heat from the use of air conditioning and refrigeration. Vehicle usage which has been a great concern and has greatly been improved is becoming a secondary concern. Home usage of air conditioning and refrigeration are not nearly the concern as is the usage of these units in industrial use such as producing electricity. The laws of physical nature replenishes the earth's environmental structure and we do not have the means to justify or alter the course of such action. We do know that living the gospel is the only means of Salvation from those things that bring us concern.
  7. prisonchaplain: In the area where I live, we are very active in the student exchange programs with other countries, both high school and college levels. We also have a large number of business people who travel globally and also receive a number of foreign business people who work on projects within those businesses. There are also many people here who have elected to adopt children from foreign countries. We have a very high demand for foreign language programs in our schools and colleges. Those adopted children are brought into homes prepared to communicate with them in their language and provide a cultural environment. Taking responsibility for your family and working through 10 years to get visa is far less than dying in the fuel chamber of a gasoline truck. Some Americans have struggled through 20 years of frustration to get a visa to enter Vietnam because their loved ones never returned. Tourism and immigration are not the only issues of foreign policy.
  8. tombofjesus.com How do you feel about people who believe that Jesus lived through the crucifixion and later in life died in India? I personally don't believe it because it does not support the scriptures. I thought it would make a good discussion since there are some people who believe this theory and are evolving some theological basics to form a style of religious beliefs.
  9. That theory could also make glove wearing look unusual.
  10. What do most Americans do when they are traveling to a foreign country? #1: Get permission to enter the country legally. #2: Buy a foreign language translation dictionary. Take a foreign language class at the community college. Or buy a foreign language instruction package at the book store (or online). #3: Obtain a guideline of the laws for the country where they will be traveling. #4: Study the currency exchange values and be prepared to pay for their expenses. #5: Be prepared to eat foreign food and do not expect an American Grocery Market on every corner. #6: Respect the foreign government policies and when you have enough politely leave. We are not asking anyone to do anything that we do not expect of ourselves.
  11. The traits that some tomboyish girls have just vanish over time. I have a lot of adult friends who were tomboys and are in the medical field or teachers...etc. I think that some girls are just intimidated by the attention of the frilly stuff when they are young.
  12. In this case it was probably just a good person being in the wrong place at the wrong time. As for the resisting arrest, he was probably a kid who was scared and didn't understand why he was stopped in the first place. It's just Satan's way of trying to stop a Missionary from taking the gospel to someone who is waiting/praying. I will keep this young man in my prayers.
  13. Isn't Matthew chapter six, The Lord's Prayer, consistent with the prayers Jesus said at Gethsemane? Didn't John the Baptist prophesies the Lord's coming and the crucifixion in Luke, chapter 3? Luke 3:3 he preached "baptism of repentance for the remission of sins."
  14. There were two tomboys in our neighborhood. They wore sports jerseys non stop and their mother was always in jeans and a flannel shirt or t-shirt. The father was mostly wearing bluejean bibs with t-shirts and flannel jackets. Somewhere between Jr High and High School, the older girl decided to wear feminine apparel and makeup. We will describe her as being "gaudy." Her clothes and make-up were bright colors to include hair color. Her sister fell into the jeans and t-shirt family tradition. After high school graduation, the older girl started wearing jeans and t-shirts too. Neither got into piercings or tattoos. Neither one went to college or entered the workforce full time. They are all just "home bodies." Fortunately both parents work. Oh, and no boyfriend connections to report so marriage is really on the "back burner" for the tomboys.
  15. CrimsonKairos: Isn't Lent the symbolic observance of Gethsemane? (the period of 40 weekdays before Easter as a period of prayer, penance, fasting, and self-denial); To make one's self worthy to spiritually receive the Atonement. How does the LDS Church observe Easter Sunday...The Day of Atonement? I am very confused about this in all sincerity.
  16. There have been parents who attended seminary class with their child due to transportation issues. They are silent observers with a non-student classification. You might want to ask about it. Otherwise you could ask your daughter to tutor you.
  17. There is no law in the United States called prowling. Your son was not arrested in the process of committing a crime and was not arrested attempting to commit a crime. Your son was most likely stopped on a suspicious person investigation. Curfew laws are set in place to keep young people safe and it helps to stop teenage gang activity. Resisting Arrest is a Class A Felony. Resisting Arrest may be a verbal resist or a physical resist. It can carry a sentence of up to two years in the county jail. If the Resisting Arrest was made with a Felony Arrest it can be punishable to a 20 year sentence in the penitentiary. The resisting arrest would probably be the concern of the Missionary Program since he would be responsible for his behavior and respect the guidance of his Missionary Supervisors.
  18. Thanks. Some of the things that I had read were that bread machines were loud and made irregular shaped loaves. I'm going to start looking for one. A redneck joke suggested putting the dough in the driveway and running over it a few times with the pickup. Said it would also work to tenderize meat! During the winter, there are always those blizzards and snow storms that keep the trucks from getting to the grocery stores and bread is sold out quickly. I like the "space bags" that LDS is using for food storage because I cannot use a crank can opener. LOL I have the makings of a tool box in my kitchen.
  19. Parents should have the same rules as their children otherwise Parents are just dishing out an 18 sentence. The example the parent is setting otherwise is when you are grown, you can do as you please, so the rules mean nothing. Rules should be the practice of instilling values and if the Parent does not need any values it is a worthless way of life. What has a child done wrong that they don't deserve a day off for good behavior and hard work? The Lord has commanded us to keep the holidays as days of remembrance and respect. Walk in your child's shoes.
  20. I wonder how much money I could make selling grasshopper goo on E-Bay. Probably more if I offered a collector's Arrakis grasshopper goo jar!
  21. Ouch! Yediyd....That sounds like the "soft ball" stage in candy making. You need to take caution to avoid burns and infections. Our YWCA or YMCA offers adult swim sessions as does some of the high schools. It's not a class just some fun time to relax and splash, float, and paddle around in the water. Some Y's will waive the membership fee and some just charge non-membership fees (usually that is plus .50 cents or $1) and a swim session is usually a dollar or two. (you may think of it as costing you 4 to 6 spoons.....I think of it as quality time with good friends that I met there.) We also have places where we can walk with other people. That's especially popular during the cold wintery months. It's free. You can even bring a lawn chair so it's not all about olympic walking. Except for Quick Breads, my bread making days are over. Does anyone here use a bread machine? I have seen many at garage sales so I am leery about buying one (used or new).
  22. Don't you use all the scriptures? (Old Testament, New Testament, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price) When combined, they make the Iron Rod.
  23. I thought about those spoons and my spoons are somewhat different. Everyday my son will ask me to do a little something for him as he leaves for school. It's like getting a spoon. I have some demanding dogs that will start barking if I don't get up to feed them and some very persuasive cats who want to eat too. Last year the neighbor's hound dog would chimed in. And then there is the squirrel who sits on the fence looking in the window and the cardinals who like to fly past the kitchen window. Two years ago, we were having an awful drought and I had to keep a big bucket of water filled for the wild life outside and a rabbit would be sitting on the doorstep waiting. And of course there is the Lord who has many spoons. He inspired me to go to a neighbor's house and ask for a sewing needle one day. He was just so insistent that I needed a sewing needle and she had many. So I went to her house and asked for one. She went off into her house happy to give me a needle and when she returned smiling, she said that she had lost her blood pressure medicine and found it sitting beside her sewing needles. The Holy Ghost is helping me to take care of a lot of stuff. Anymore I am doing a lot of things without even thinking about it because the Holy Ghost is guiding me. Some time ago, I kept getting a warning about the temperature of the dish water or shower. One day, my candy thermometer flipped into the dish water and the water was very hot. I did not realize that I could not feel heat and cold very much. Now I am very careful about it. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
  24. I was recently surrounded by people of various religions who thought their Bibles were the ultimate word of God. While we were passing around our scriptures for all to see, I gave them some D&C scripture references. Quicker than the mind thinks, they put their Bibles away. Joseph Smith is a prophet and a revelator and his works are great in power and wisdom. My family was brought into the LDS Church by the Lord through our prayers. We contacted a Temple and spoke to a worker there about this and they told us that the Lord was calling on our family and they sent the missionaries to us.
  25. Yediyd: After all that raving about the Book of Mormon, you didn't choose to use any scripture from it. Why is that? Any number of them would have gone beautifully with what you wrote...Don't you think? Genesis 1:1 or Mormon 9:11 John 1:1 or 3 Nephi 9:15 Psalms 119:10 or Alma 37:23 I just thought that you were going to write about the Book of Mormon, that's all.
