  1. You can watch the 1976 movie Taxi with Jodie Foster and Robert De Niro. Pulp Fiction (1994) with Uma Thurman and John Travolta is another movie that would give you some insight for your research. You can also contact your police dept and ask for an interview with the officers who are assigned to the prostitution and pornography squad. They will answer your questions.
  2. Dog, no, too domesticated, Cat, no, too demanding, Bird, no, too much travel, Whale, no, too much study, Horse, no, too much gambling, Monkey, no, too many clothes, Goat, no, too many kids, Just let me get back to you. ((I'm just mailing off my application to get an extension on my reincarnation)) Wouldn't want to screw that up. Wolf, no, to many masks, Sheep, no, too much wool over the eyes.
  3. We have actually had interfaith meetings for many years. It is called the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. It is unique because it is the only interfaith organization where everyone will put on the same uniform. And that is to include the adult volunteers.
  4. Some families have relatives who are of different religions. Why not have a family reunion.
  5. A talent is a characteristic that harmonizes with all of our senses and physical abilities. Potential which is sometimes mistaken for talent is the possibility to achieve. Gifts are accomplished through unselfish service. Just because someone made you do something and it uplifted you, does not make it a gift. Gifts are large and small contributions to mankind. Most of our gifts will be acts of kindness from the heart. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is composed of very talented people and I receive it as a gift.
  6. I took that icy step into foreign genealogy today. Wow! It's fascinating! I am going to have to build/learn some basic foreign language skills. I have notebooks for each country as I go into it. Today it is Germany. And then on to Switzerland. etc. Now I have a burning desire to see the entire genealogy world.
  7. On 9/11, one child was home sick from school and had turned the TV on earlier and was watching a news program on NBC. Apparently they have cameras covering the city and broke in with the first plane hitting the World Trade Center and said "It looks like a plane just hit the World Trade Center." Then they showed a ferry that was caught up in the rippling waters from the trauma of the explosion. When my child was able to draw my attention away from my cooking, I was thinking that the broadcast was some sort of re-enactment of the 90's bombing. And then we watched the 2nd plane crash into the building. Of course like everyone, we then followed the events that followed. My other child was in school and they did not make an annoucement. It was just another normal school day. When the school children left the building, parents picking up their children were screaming. My child was a bus rider. The bus driver made the children ride with their heads down over their knees with their hands over their necks all the way to their stop. All the while, she told them about the days events. When the bus would make a stop, neighbors who did not have children and parents who did, were running out to the bus and screaming that the US was under attack. I wish the school had made an announcement at the end of the day. My child arrived home concerned and confused. Later in the evening my child said "We had a good school day. The teachers were really nice to us." He drew back on that comfort that he was given at school as did I and my other child. And that is how we made it through 9/11.
  8. I was there a few months ago and we talked nonstop about genealogy.
  9. Saddam Hussein had much of the genealogy destroyed in Iraq and Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has destroyed theirs as well. The middle east is a genealogy nightmare. Hong Kong is a curious genealogy aspect having been under British Rule etc. China with all it's population problems, adoptions, hidden children, etc. will be an unsolvable mess. With all that said, I guess looking into genealogy in Europe couldn't be all that hard. I guess that I have overcome a bit of intimidation.
  10. Well technically atheists don't hate God as they do not beleive He existed. They may hate the idea that believers have about him however. What's this got to do with our Elphaba? I would not ask you to go to AtheistForums.com. but they write that they hate God and Jesus. I don't know how anyone can misinterpret a hate statement and twist it into disbelief. Elphaba list herself as an atheist in her profile. It displays everytime she makes a post. And she has talked about being an atheist in many of her post. If an adult proclaims to be an atheist, they have taken that yoke of beliefs and all the trimmings that come with it. You could easily find her in the atheist forums because she has unique posting characterists.
  11. Several Native American Nations have asked me to help them organize their genealogy. Thus far it is still being verbally passed from generation to generation. Now they have concerns about it being lost. That will be a challenge since it is somewhat different from ours. I hope/plan to begin the journey in the coming year.
  12. Yes, I guess it was a premature post as I had not really collected my thoughts. Maybe I am just a religious dummie about most things. I just envisioned atheist as a scattering of people who either denied the presence of our Heavenly Father and Jesus or hated them. I was unprepared to find that atheists is a large over populated organization who hate our Heavenly Father and Jesus. It is the crucifixation of Jesus in our day. The pain that those forums brought me was more than anything that I can imagine. It was my vanity in wanting to debate Elphaba that I went on those forums. And I will repent having made that choice. It reinforced my already respect for the leadership of the LDS Church. Staying on that narrow path and holding to the rod have much deeper meanings. Our missionaries do wear the armor of the Lord and as he said will be protected by him at all times. I can understand this much more clearly also. It's a big world out there after all. As for Snow, he is currently replying to dibster as a troll. The atheist do have priesthoods with both men and women. We are one of the few large religions left who do not have women in the priesthood. And the atheist are using that to attract women to atheist.
  13. I have a Personal Ancestry File but I only put information on there that is complete. I just need a place for all my other stuff that I am working on. I have boxes of genealogy. I have been working on genealogy all my life. As a child, I collected all the verbal accounts of our families. In 1972, I begin collecting records. The difficulty in genealogy is when members of a family are passed over or not recorded for a number of reasons during their time periord. Some of our family was settled in Pennsylvania and Virginia and Florida before the Revolutionary War. Except for the men, the Virginia families (women, children & elderly) moved inland toward Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi...etc. The families in Pennsylvania moved into the northwestern areas of Wyoming, Montana, etc. and the Florida families moved into Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. (none of which were states during that time.) I have been working on a collection of pictures of LDS Baptisms that were performed in lakes, rivers, etc. And when I have complied it, I will give it to the Church.
  14. Well.....Well.....Well !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, Can I ever take it back? Oh my, what have I done. I am just in tears. With all this talk about trolls, atheist, anti-mormons...etc, I pulled up AtheistForums.com. I just wish that I had never seen that stuff. Thank you Snow for calling trolls as you see them. I did not know Elphaba was in an atheist preisthood.
  15. I believe what I am going to do at this point is to build some data bases on Microsoft Office and make everything more accessible. I have boxes of genealogy records. Although I will still have the boxes, I will not have to sort and search so much. It would probably be a good idea to start some data bases for all the genealogist and sources. Some people who work in genealogy pass their work on to relatives. It is hard to keep up with them.
  16. Winnie G: Your house building has brought so many memories back. I bought into a country estate in the mid 1980's and had a house built. I can look back on that now and laugh at all the stuff that happened. It was about a year of getting it all worked out. In the first place they BUILT THE WRONG HOUSE! They decided to move it and build the one that I wanted. It was an unusually rainy season so they had to wait a month. The extra expenses included paying for A DRIVEWAY! The electric company wired the estate with 110 !!! So NO ELECTRIC for weeks! I lived packed for close to a year before I was able to move in. But now when I look back all the stupid stuff just seems funny. I was forced to eat a lot of fast food during that time.
  17. Consignment Shops do not invest in inventory and storage. The clientele data base is for inventory. The clothing is brought in and stays for a season. If it does not sale, the owner picks it up. It was always fascinating to design the window displays and the store layouts. The men's dept can obviously look drab with hews of gray everywhere. Our largest clientele came from women working in offices. We were members of the retail merchants association.
  18. I have my genealogy mostly completed in the USA with a few links still to connect and some confirmations still outstanding. I am really intimidated about following genealogy into foreign countries and also excited about it. I'm not really sure where to begin.
  19. During the early 90's, a friend and I owned a fashion consignment shop. It was totally FUN. It has a very low financial start-up and that gives you about three months to get your business going. We were ousted by E-Bay as was nearly every consignment shop. Consignments shops earn 50% of the sales. E-Bay has many % cost to the consumer so they are not getting 50% on their sales; more like 15%. So, the consignment shops are coming back. We have a few that have opened this past year. While I am not going back into business, I might do some business with them. Basically all you need is a tax id to get started and that is free, a decent location with low rent, hangers, and about $2,000. It is easy to build a clientele data base. You can even create your own fashion line and sell it in your shop. It is fun.
  20. I have read articles about home canning and preserving over the years especially in the Yankee Magazine. It always seems complicated. Then there are the pioneering articles. Soap making looks really hard. Then there is always finding products and the availability of things. This year, I was really prompted to learn home canning. When a friend told me that she was canning, I asked her if I could come over and see how it is done. She grows a few plants like tomatoes and peppers. Her canning is not about mass production. She just cans the tomatoes as they come off the vines. That day she canned two quarts of tomatoes. She is someone who is generous in sharing knowledge. She went from removing the tomato skins to the hot water bath. Of course we enjoy visiting, sharing our family stories, etc. and time just flew by. Well, it is not hard to can tomatoes. She puts a lot of art into her canning. She showed me through her food storage and it was very pretty; like a fall harvest.
  21. Good! I thought that you was going to make a big stink of yourself and sin.
  22. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW What will you do to keep yourself out of the Celestial Kingdom?
  23. In reading your post, I realized that I really did not know what truth meant. Using the thesaurus, I have found some of the elements of truth: reality, certainty, genuineness, honesty, integrity, dedication, loyalty, devotion, sincerity. Your post really hits home in my memories of the good and then the trying times in life. I don't have a crystal ball, but it seems that Truth is the staff of life.
  24. I put in first name and last name and clicked search. I received 5 responses for this and 9 responses for that. When you click on the responses, it gives you a list of persons with that name and some minor information like birth/death date and when you click on one, it ask if you want to order the file. Some of the responses will take you directly to Ancestry.com. I have not received any free information like FamilySearch.org.
  25. Since there have been so many threads about misunderstandings, apologies, etc. within the past week, I thought I would let you know that I mainly come to this site for the adulterous/porn pop-ups. Just kidding ( )! (I ignore them..... ) You made the right choice Alaskagain. Legal is a filthy world. Cleaning toilets is an admirable work compared to it. TV might make it look like big bucks, sophisticated, and intelligent but it is not. It is about representing people that you do not want to know, never wanted to meet, and dread having to spend time with.
