  1. Right, and this problem has been nipped in the bud by the decision. Rather than be treated as second-class citizens, same-sex couples will leave. Now you and your kids can be comfortable and not have to deal with homosexuals, at least in church. But in the REAL world, they'll see it, have questions, and you will have to deal with it. And God forbid, one of your own children turns out gay - then you REALLY have to deal with it
  2. Right. I think this is what bothers me most. But realistically, this sword has two edges, both beneficial to the Church. With this rule in place, it will be difficult for same-sex parents to even STAY in the Church, and if they left, that would solve a big problem for the Church, really. Then they wouldn't have to even deal with it at all. It almost feels like a chess move. Again, I do not believe the Church needs to change for anyone Just not an easy one, this.
  3. I knew some of those, but not all. Pretty cool stuff. Thanks!
  4. Hmmm... it's weird to me. But I sort of feel, especially in a time when the world has a big old light shining on OUR Church, we probably have no business judging what others do. We'd do better to discuss and understand our own religion. Or to parrot what I've heard other say here, "meh."
  5. Wow. I had no idea. People's actions can be hateful and shocking.
  6. Booo! Why'd you post the answers? I was going to try to find them.
  7. Welcome to the forum :)
  8. I'm not angry. I'm impressed with the wonderful example in this video that we all should be following.
  9. Thanks, Pam, for posting the video. It was very helpful.
  10. Alma 46: 13-15 says, 13: "... so long as there should be a band of Christians remain to possess the land -- 14: For thus were all the true believers of Christ, who belonged to the church of God, called by those who did not belong to the church. 15: And those who did belong to the church were faithful; yeah, all those who were true believers in Christ took upon them, gladly, the name of Christ, or Christians as they were called, because of their belief in Christ who should come. This was written in 73-72 BC according to the BOM Have you not read the BOM, PrisonChaplain? Which leads me to another question... How does a person who is a member of the Assemblies of God come to be a Moderator in a LDS forum? Just curious, don't really mind, just curious?
  11. I will ask my Bishop. Thanks for the suggestion - and it's good to know who makes the call. :) I see by your little bear guy that you're already grouchy and blue in the face. So you and I probably shouldn't discuss it anymore. I am, however, interested in what other people think.
  12. Yes, I'm also allowed to attend "cultural events" in my non-LDS family. However, I'd say the difference between that and today's change to the Handbook is that it doesn't specifically "call out" Catholics - it does call out same-gender couples. I DO affiliate with and support my son and his partner - not financially, but I love them both, have them to dinner, etc. They are specifically mentioned. I honestly don't want to argue.. I just want to understand this and what it means in my own family.
  13. I don't know. I was asking. If the parent (me for instance) attends the wedding of gay child, what does this mean in terms of the questions asked for the Temple Recommend? Specifically: "Do you support, affiliate with, or agree with any group or individual whose teachings or practices are contrary to or oppose those accepted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?"
  14. I guess I just wonder what's next? Do parents of gay adult children who choose to marry need to worry about being excommunicated or having to choose between their children and the Church?
  15. This is all over the news... has it not yet been officially announced?
  16. If the child is of age to be baptized, and is not allowed to be baptized, and dies before 18 ... does the fact that the child was not baptized have any impact on which Kingdom he goes to?
  17. When you say "released" do you mean released for other LDS people to do the work? Or released and no Temple work done?
  18. What happens if you die, and you have names reserved? Are the names then released to the Temple or is the work not done?
  19. I decided that the fellow in the back could just tell the person in front of him the color of his hat, then that person could tell the next one, etc. The only person not knowing the color of his hat would be the guy in the back, and he'd have a 50/50 chance of getting it right. But I think I remember that only 9 out of 10 had to be correct? When I listened to the rest of the tape, it made sense, but it hurt my head.
  20. I often have people either ask me, "Are Mormons Christian?" or tell me, "Mormons are NOT Christian!" According to Alma Chapter 46: 13-15 Moroni calls us Christians. We took upon ourselves and called ourselves Christians +/- 73 years before Christ was born, and therefore about a century before others began using the term. How do the rest of you respond to this question or challenge, if at all?
  21. Thank you for your explanation. I'm sorry people were rude to you. I hope you find the answers you are seeking.
