  1. So, there was no purpose in Him resurrecting, in your opinion?
  2. D&C 130: 18 Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection. 19 And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his diligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come. Alma 12: 13 Then if our hearts have been hardened, yea, if we have hardened our hearts against the word, insomuch that it has not been found in us, then will our state be awful, for then we shall be condemned. 14 For our words will condemn us, yea, all our works will condemn us; we shall not be found spotless; and our thoughts will also condemn us; and in this awful state we shall not dare to look up to our God; and we would fain be glad if we could command the rocks and the mountains to fall upon us to hide us from his presence. ------- If you live through this life with a hardened heart, I full well believe that your heart will also be hardened in the next life. The missionaries may even be there, and those with hardened hearts might say the equivalent of "Go away, I don't want to hear it." I'm sure it's not as easy as "Hey, there's Mormon missionaries here. They must've been right." Where is Satan at this time? I doubt he'll just let the dead rest, when he's got Mormons to work against. No, I don't think it'll be a simple matter of "Oh, there's God, there's Christ, now I have full faith in them." ---- There was a diverging topic that most people probably have "just in case" beliefs (I will not say faith, because it's not.) That's sad. Alma 32:21 helped me make the decision to be baptized. 21 And now as I said concerning faith—faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true. I (personally) don't have any fear of the afterlife. I just hope with all my heart, and have faith, that what I believe in is true. I want it to be true for its own sake, not simply for mine. The Gospel is so wonderful, all that I've learned, how could I NOT want it to be true? It's beyond me.
  3. "And now, O man, remember, and perish not." I absolutely love that. It's the end of Mosiah 4. I didn't get to reading scriptures yesterday... No excuse. Too tired to read any more tonight, but it was truly an amazing experience. I read it aloud, as if I were King Benjamin addressing the multitude, and as if King Benjamin were addressing me personally. It was... So strong. I prayed for a portion of the Holy Spirit to help me get something from the scriptures tonight, and I was just slammed. King Benjamin is one of my favorites from the Book of Mormon. I love to read the scriptures aloud. It forces me to read a little slower than I would, so that I can speak, and seeing and hearing it helps me retain it better. And... I read with good inflection. It makes the experience powerful, every time I read it aloud in my personal study. I definitely have to do it more often. I can't pick out one thing I learned tonight, sorry for any visitors. Go read the entire chapter, because I wanted to highlight the whole thing.
  4. So you'd rather have your descendants prescribe to your beliefs, rather than someone else's? Seem normal to me.
  5. I've heard they're not allowed to get hugs. Exceptions are like when I hugged the guy who confirmed me right after he did it. Edit: Also, they can hug their comps.
  6. This is one that stood out to me. I'm reading these using my LDS Scriptures CD-ROM edition. The (1) is a note/highlight that I added to the parts shown as bolded here. Mosiah 2 21 I say unto you that if ye should serve him who has created you from the beginning, and is preserving you from day to day, by(1) lending you breath, that ye may live and move and do according to your own will, and even supporting you from one moment to another—I say, if ye should serve him with all your whole souls yet ye would be unprofitable servants. (1) God gives us life that we may have the freedom to choose.
  7. I admit my looking over it was brief. Thanks for the info. However, the... "babbling" type of tongues... I can't get it. No offense or anything, it's just beyond my grasp.
  8. Read the rest of that sentence.
  9. You seem to be looking at it from a purely physical, temporal stance, and there's the spiritual aspect. And we know Satan has power, and that he can even perform miracles, based on Scripture. *shrug* This isn't really a topic on whether or not Satan has influence over us, and it's not something I even care to argue. I know he does, and I've personally felt his influence trying to affect me.
  10. But we don't know the exact process. We have scriptural accounts of what's happened at certain times, though.
  11. When Christ reigns, the lamb and the lion shall lie down together... The lions shall eat plants, and no longer other animals. Will WE, Man, still eat meat?
  12. I see, now. Thank you Xhenli! The purpose of those things, IMO, was to provide a lineage of the Book of Mormon. It probably has other purposes, too, but it seems Mormon added them because it shows that the Book of Mormon was passed down directly from person to person. So there's no gap in the timeline. I'm going to study for next Sunday's lesson today. Mosiah 1-3.
  13. It's not like the Priesthood is money, or riches, or better food, or quality of living. God isn't DEPRIVING the women of the world of anything by not giving them the Priesthood. There are obvious differences in men and women, from anatomy to the way their brains actually function. One is not superior to the other. If God created us different physically, why not Spiritually? Men are supposed to have the Priesthood in this life, women do not need it. When people say "That's not fair," I get an image of them thinking the Priesthood is a piece of candy... And they're protest is "Women should have candy, too!" It's not like that.
  14. I can not comprehend that idea of speaking in tongues. The gift of tongues was meant to be one of understanding... Scriptural references seem to mean that speaking in tongues was speaking in someone else's language, that you didn't know. Huh.
  15. Then, hypothetically, we wouldn't be here. I think, because Satan is a spirit only, and so are the other Sons of Perdition, that they have a different influence over us. They directly attack our Spirit. You know when dealing with people, some have that dominating sort of personality? I think it's like that. They try to overwhelm our spirit with their own agenda.
  16. My brother had to wear nighties for awhile, because he didn't have good bladder control. (Smaller bladder plus a medicine he was on, the doctor said.) They weren't degrading for him. He felt better knowing that when he woke up he didn't leave a big embarrassing mess on the bed.
  17. If you look through the scriptures, you'll notice that Nephi seems to understand metalworking... He made the plates, he recognized Laban's sword as well-crafted. It seems to me he already had experience in that general field. He was able to make the tools needed to build the ship, too. Perhaps woodworking and ship building was an easier transition for him? Just another possible explanation to layer with the others.
  18. Maybe this'll help keep me motivated to study, and to record my "learnings." Today we went over the small chapters of the Book of Mormon in Sunday School. Enos (Enos) Jarom (Jarom) Omni (Omni) Words of Mormon (W of M) To me, the wording of the part I emphasized, seems to indicate to me that he wrote more than just this one verse... But it seems like it didn't make it through the years, or the abridgments. But, what DID make it through is that they preserved the records, even though they waited till the last minute, really... Because they were commanded by their fathers. The production of the Book of Mormon was so vital for these days, that even though there were times it seemed to just get passed down from generation to generation, it was never lost. Behind me, a guy was discussing with his mom something from 1 Nephi. It was really cool! Nephi didn't know why he was writing the abridgment of his father Lehi's plates! Chapters 1-8 weren't something he really wanted to do, and wasn't sure why he had to, besides the Lord told him to! But we know why! Because the Lord knew that the book of Lehi would be lost! And the really vital stuff was still kept through Nephi's obedience to the Lord. How awesome is that!? That's what I have for today.
  19. Don't let him nap? And they make night-time "underwear" for kids who wet the bed. Haven't been a parent, though, so I have no personal experience.
  20. They're superfluous words that when used sparingly add emotional emphasis to sentences, because of shock value, mostly... when a different wording of what you're trying to say could do it much more better. Swearing isn't intelligent, no. It doesn't mean people who use it are stupid... But it sure is talking stupid.
  21. Joint-heirs with Christ, and heirs to God isn't used in the sense of an heir to a throne, where you get to be King when you father kicks the bucket. Rather, it means that we will be privy to His knowledge, acting in all things under His authority, having Eternal Life, we will have power. Princes can act with authority, as royal heirs... Yet what their father says still goes.
  22. That's awesome, Risa! Great things will come of this Enjoy the site. Feel welcome!
  23. Please note that "mountain" also refers to the temple. More like than referring to an actual location, in my place. Try reading it as such: 2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the chief temple of the Lord’s house shall be established in Zion (Independence, MO), and shall be exalted above the other temples; and all nations shall flow unto it.
  24. There's other scriptures mentioning it. But it doesn't seem to indicate that it happens before all of the trials of the tribulation period. Rather, this all seems like what happens right before Christ appears, or, rather, AS he appears. Could someone please give me scripture references (any version of the Bible) as to where the idea of the Rapture comes from? Pre-trib would be preferred.
