It wonderful that women have so much faith in the Priesthood... but I don't think they need to believe it's the only way to get something done, or to get an "emergency" blessing for someone. Using the Priesthood is acting in the Lord's name. That is, when used righteously it's as if the Savior is doing it, and the Priesthood holder is just a stand in. In dire need and earnest prayer, I would think that that a women could pretty much cut out the middle man, and have the Lord do it Himself with His great power. Remember... He knows us perfectly. He knows what blessings we need, and has them in waiting for us to prepare ourselves and ask for them. I would assume this still applies in a situation where a Priesthood holder isn't around. Note: This doesn't excuse Priesthood holders one whit. We've been charged with the duty of watching over and building up the Church and taking care all who're in it. Hometeachers should be available for most blessings, if a husband/father is not. But, like with the child dying in their mother's arms... Sometimes there's no way for a Priesthood holder to be there when needed.

Here are some Scriptures for you: Emphasis added to all.

I think it's important to remember the power of prayer, which can work wonders for so many WITHOUT the Priesthood. I've often heard this story about a young boy, who didn't have the Priesthood. He went into a grove in mighty prayer... And the Father and the Son appeared to him! How amazing is that!?

who is right the lds or the Flds??
VisionOfLehi replied to lostnfound's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Uh-huh. Because Jesus has long been one to condone the actions of false prophets, law breakers, and the iniquitous. -
Pam, you make sense! For some people, saying the words isn't a problem. But it's those listening. So, when people are saying "Gosh" and "Geez" I AM thinking of what those words come from, and it makes my slightly uncomfortable. I think part of this is because I'm trying really hard to keep my language clean, and even hearing those replacement words enough makes me more apt to use the actual thing. It's a personal issue for me

Actually, it's female DOGS, not cats, so you pretty much just swore there. It's swearing by the context, the word, the tone of voice, and it's purpose. Profanity has been decided by some court judges as "I know it when I see it." Because people do.

Prison... We as LDS don't believe that the sustained Prophets, Seers, and Revelators are the ONLY Prophets, Seers, and Revelators. We just believe that they're the only ones who can Prophesy, See, and and receive Revelation concerning the entire Church. I have talked to members who have received powerful visions of their own that have happened to come true. And then, of course, there's our belief in personal revelation... :)

VisionOfLehi replied to HoosierGuy's topic in Priesthood Quorums and Scouting
There are manuals, yes. LDSCatalog HTML REDIRECT Under Church Organizations > Aaronic Priesthood > Handbooks and Guidebooks You'll want "Aaronic Priesthood" section of the Church Handbook of Instructions, Book 2. Under Church Organizations > Melchizedek Priesthood > handbooks and Guidebooks You'll want "Melchizedek Priesthood," section 1 of the Church Handbook of Instructions, Book 2 . They are free and there's no shipping charges in America. -
I did it!

Haha! I doubt that. I think a lot of people were interested in staying with the people from their wards, haha. Well... if they wanted to, they didn't tell me! I'm dense, I need the hint. But yeah, it was great fun. I can't wait until I'm in UT and then ID. I'm sure there's crazy times to be had there rather often. -
I went to a multi-stake YSA dance last night... And I actually danced And I don't mean just the slow dances, which I usually do anyone. I went out there and cut the rug. I was absolutely TERRIBLE It was such an awesome night... And I even got the other YSA guy from our ward, who is pretty shy, to get out there and groove a little. (Very reserved, like my first... 3 dances or so!) It was rockin'! The more dances I went to, the more I realized that about 90% of the people can't dance well at all, and everyone just does their own thing and has fun. So I finally jumped in (literally... a few times) and had fun. I know there might be some YSA here that stick to being wall flowers, but don't! Anyone can have a good time at "mingles" (as I guessed their called.) You just can't be afraid to let your goofy side to run wild for the night!

I think we need some expressions of exclamations. I've made up one of my own. "Tasty macaroons!" Just utter nonsense for when the brain doesn't know what to say. Feel free to use it

I always thought it just meant "Don't fight back." It's a counter to the saying "An eye for an eye." But the LORD is saying, "No. If you are wronged, it's not okay to wrong them back. Two wrongs do not make a right." -
At my state of progression, yes, it is! It's a minced oath, a "replacement" for taking God's name in vain... The same applies to "Geeze!" and "Sheesh!", which are minced oaths of the Lord Jesus. "For Pete's Sake" is another, Pete referring to Peter the Apostle. "Dern" "Dang" "Darn" seem pretty tame, but we all know what they're replacing. "Flip" "Fetch" "Fudge" "Freaking" are again obvious replacements. L. Tom Perry, “Thy Speech Reveals Thee,” New Era, Jul 2007, 2–5 That's what I try to do. I slip a lot, but usually just with the substitute words, but if you're really trying, you improve quickly! Anyway, I still swear sometimes. I was shocked at myself that I let an f-bomb slip after I parked my car and found out I was parked wrong, after I'd already gotten out. The rain today had stressed me out and I wasn't thinking. However, I have a VERY strong testimony that I'm happy to share with others.

You know it'll be the mark of the beast when every man woman and child is required to take it, and it's place on the right hand or the forehead, If you take the scriptural references literally. I'm sure there's a compelling argument out there that "head" and "right hand" refer to something symbolic... There IS a consequence for taking this mark, indeed. I can only assume it'd be Telestial Kingdom for you. Meaning, thus, during the Millennial Reign, they shall still be in Spirit Prison or something like unto it, suffering for their sins, until the Reign ends and they get resurrected in perfect physical bodies, and enter into Telestial Glory.

Yes, and if you continue reading those verses, does it say "And let him dwell in your tent also, that he may smite thee on thy cheek whenever he desireth to do so." -

Probably not the WHOLE Bible. But... Where, Shell, does the Bible say that after you forgive a man you must put him and yourself in the same situation in which he created the incident that needed forgiving? -

I believe I referenced a wizened Prophet, and not Deity. -
My Cold Stone favorite personal creation: Half banana ice cream, half chocolate. Split, not mixed. Brownie and coconut mixed in. Once I got the biggest size of it... I added peanut butter and I don't remember what else to the mix. OH! I love their pumpkin ice cream.

Is American public education a form of child abuse?
VisionOfLehi replied to Fiannan's topic in General Discussion
I don't blame the teachers. To me, it's the administration. ruthiechan: I don't mean standardized tests... Though they're good to use on young children, too, but not for pass/fail kind of things. I just mean regular tests/exams/quizzes. Standardized tests can help schools discern individual children's needs. Learning DISABLED kids can be picked out by their low scores. I myself was identified as needing Talented & Gifted classes after taking the ITBS in 1st grade. (Iowa Test of Basic Skills.) -

President Hinckley said you can forgive a man, but that does not mean you ever have to do business with him again. -
Cold Stone/Marble Slab are the same place, I believe. They rock hard. (No pun intended.) JohnBirch, I'm totally down with that Dr. Pepper. Word of advice, though... Vanilla ice cream makes a good Dr. Pepper float. Chocolate ice cream does NOT.
