  1. "Satan wants us to have self esteem" Not so!

"Satan desires to make all men miserable like unto himself". He wants us to wallow in self pity and believe that all is lost and there is no reason to carry on. What happens in school is an effort to life us up in pride...you are right about that. Satan can use vanity and pride to bring us down...he would much rather destroy us early, to save him the trouble of dealing with us later.

  2. Taxi drivers are in more danger of being murdered on the job than law enforcement. Almost twice as likely as all causes of death combined for police. Where's the special treatment for them? They're just trying to do a necessary, useful job.

That is just silly...taxi drivers get robbed. They don't die while protecting others, in the course of their sworn duties.
  3. I'm of the opinion that respect for law and order is alive and well in the United States, and that far more people respect the law than not. Problems have always existed and always will. Depending upon whom I ask (and how many years of opportunity they've had to observe life) there have been worse times and better times, over and over.

I am 58, and have of few assignations of police while sitting in cars, pumping gas and in their driveways. Now maybe having been a police officer, I disagree...but I think more, I disagree.
  4. Given the incident in DeKalb County, the answer is the same as it has been for decades now; ditch the attitudes and go back to being true peace officers first and foremost. If those officers hadn't decided to go Rambo on a call that was already problematic (no address given) there wouldn't have been an issue other than a possibly mildly annoyed (but not shot) homeowner and a somewhat agitated (but not killed) family pet.

I was addressing the Illinois officer. The DeKalb thing was just wrong address...not an executed officer. I retired from Atlanta and knew many Rambo's there...I was not showing any favoritism.
  5. Respect for law and order.

Which of course is long gone. We have today vast communities of those who believe they should be able to supplement thier government welfare checks, subsidies and give-aways with crime. And they believe they should not have any interference from law enforcement while they carry out their crimes.

I doubt that it will change, particularly with the ilk in the white house and ags office (both present and former) and the poitical bent of most large cities where these communities thrive on their crimes (and 'government assistance').

And it won't change as long as there are viscious rabid racists like Al 'Fat Boy' Sharpton, and Jessie 'Bug Eyes' Jackson stirring up further racial hatred and disrespect for law and order.

You know their motto after any crime: "Mah bebby din do nuffin".

    dc

True big cities have the most problems in some areas, but the majority of Walfare takers are White and only lag about 10% behind in baby mama drama and only about 20% behind in crime as a economic group.
  6. Of all the issues I had to deal with in the military and law enforcement, being assignated was usually not one of them. The badge I carry now is my retirement badge...which is in my City of Atlanta badge holder. The weapon I carry does not screen police, except the fact that I don't conceal it and carry it like it has been there all my life. I can only wonder how the wives of police officers feel today, as opposed to my day. Sadly the more police that get killed will have three terrifying results...

    1. Good men and women will leave the force

    2. Some Police Officers will become more aggressive...leading to more hate groups like "Black Lives Matter"

    3. Some Policer Officers will be more gun shy out of fear that no matter the choice they make their lives will be over due social media.

    What is the answer?

  7. From a male perspective...I joined the Chuch while living in Germany in the 1970's, sealed in the Swiss Temple. Back then of course had to wear tops under T-shirt required color shirt. Then returning Stateside to Georgia, thought everyday I would die of a heatstroke daily. I got out in middle 1980's before military garments tops. As to bottoms...still live in Georgia and back when working thought I would did of heatstroke. Yesterday spent day on lake with some friends, it was an unusually cool morning so did not wear shorts...so to wear a regular T-shirt, garments underneath. They (garments) have become so much a part of my life...even when I go to a lake and don't wear them, I can't get them back on quickly enough! :)

  8. I recently did some research on the Church of Christ (RLDS) and found that almost every "Prophet" since the split within the Church in 1844, with the death of the Prophet Joseph Smith, have published new canonized scripture. It seems to me the outsider that each Prophet have tried to publish scripture as evidence that they are "indeed" Prophets.

This juxtaposed to our leadership, where nothing has been canonized since 1918 (other than in proclamation or Manifesto form). This type of restraint and absolute reverence suggests to me that those called and ordained do not feel the need to publish, but to proclam. These men do not see the need to add anything unless called upon to do so by the Lord. It is a quiet form of leadership, one in which these men are changed by the calling instead of trying to change the calling.

Any thoughts, agree or disagree. Much of what I am talking about is based of reading about the lives of these men, from Joseph to Tomas...the simple humility of Joseph's predecessors who are there simply to serve without fan fair, for the most part.

  9. Why is it that almost everything talk that references Peter walking on the water focusses on the lack of faith he showed by not continuing with his walk rather than the great faith he showed by starting his walk? Even Christ seemed to rebuke Peter for his lack of faith even though He praised others for showing a lesser amount of faith than what Peter showed, eg, by asking to be healed when they already knew that Christ could heal.

I think it is because Peter was walking on the water because Christ held him up...he did not lose faith in walking on water, so much as he lost faith in Christ's ability to sustain him. The point of the entire story is that focal point.
  10. If revelation came only in the Temple our faith would be lost. As so many live so fr from Temples, illness or injury can make a Temple 5 miles away become a Temple 5,000 miles away. Also in the Bible Dictionary says that only the home can compare with the sacredness of the Temple...I would think that much of revelation comes in the home.

  11. Thought this would be interesting, especially, with all the opinions that float around here...

Since I'm not an expert on conspiracy theories, or the topics they cover, the sensationalism of what-really-happened seems to always reel in my curiosity. Even though I'm not an expert, there's certain conspiracy theories that while intriguing, I just don't buy - like the moon landing... Alright, so the most recent conspiracy theory that I've heard about was that 9/11 was orchestrated by the US government. Naturally, it was posted on my FB feed (which we all know is a great resource for accurate and unbiased information lol). I didn't read through the whole article but bits and pieces.

So what are some conspiracies that you agree with or don't agree with? (Like I said, I'm no expert on this, especially on government conspiracies! Very clueless on that category, specifically. But I'd be interest in other types of conspiracy theories, too...maybe Big Foot?...lol)

I have a friend ( we don't talk much anymore because of such things) who is unhinged when it comes to conspiracy theories. He is much like Mel Gibson in the movie "Conspiracy Theroy", without the actual element. From what I hear Mel Gibson is much the way he appears in the movie.
  12. Did anyone else notice that even a bad day being LDS is better than a good day when you weren't in the church?

LadyGator and I were talking about this recently, just curious as to other thoughts.

I know the Church has given me the tools to navigate through difficult times. So yes, I can agree with your statement.
  13. Due to back problems, most months the only time I am out of the house is to be in Church. Have not been more than 5 times in three months. In that setting I never have the need to "debate my beliefs". It is a terrible cost, between doubting and depression, one can find yourself questioning almost anything. Then on Tuesday of this week two people come by for a visit from a nearby Baptist Church...so I decided to answer some of their questions when I told them I was Baptist but now Mormon. Hose questions led to 2 1/2 hour visit, during which I found myself not explaining my faith, but "defending my faith".

It was fun and uplifting...for a change.

Anyone with similar thoughts or stories?

  14. The topic came up during stake conference, and I found it interesting, so I decided to do some research on the subject.

I think that when you help someone knowing that God wanted you to, it helps you to know that there is a God above who cares about you and who will ask someone to serve you if it is His will.

Those who serve other, helps you to love them. This brings you closer to God and helps us understands how God loves use. Because all we have is giving by a loving God, reminding us of the love and service giving helps us understand what Christ does for us.
  15. A former home teacher of mine and his wife are on a senior mission right now and part of their mission is with the Havasupai's.

Something I would love to do, but too many health problems. Before the accident and difficulties I always told my friends that upon my retirement at 60, I would file my papers. Now getting through a 3 hour block of Church and going to the Temple causes a lot of pain. I have had a good life...but my bucket list has always been the two things I listed, by next year it will be down to one.
  16. What do you think? What is your experience indicate? Is G-d more likely to step in and intervene directly in the affairs of men because of the prayers and desires of the righteous or because of the sins and crimes of the wicked?

There. angels all about us...we sometimes call them guardian angels, but non of us have our own guardian angel. But all stand ready to do God's will, and this is Devine interdiction. Just my humble opinion. :)

  18. I was sealed to my parents at the Swiss temple :) I kind of sort of have a bucket list. It changes a lot. Even though we're in our 30's, I do have friends actively working on theirs, and adding stuff. I don't really have a desire to travel anywhere, I do a lot of that now, certainly there are many places I haven't been to though. I would say that I need to do something out of my comfort zone and is more charitable than I normally am. I'd like to be stationed somewhere and do service projects with my husband (I guess this would be further down the line when kiddos are grown and gone) in places of the world that need assistance. This would really be something I'd have to mentally prep for because I have so many OCD issues lol but I keep saying to myself that I want to make a real hands-on impact somewhere outside of my safe little bubble.

That is great same Temple. When my wife and I were sealed, they brought in my two oldest oldest children in dress in white...no a dry eye in the room! It was one of the most powerful spiritual experience in my life. It was April 29, 1981...they were 4 and 7 years of age, not ashamed to say Papa cried like a little boy. The Spirit was so strong that I understood Nephi words; "even unto the consuming of my flesh" and "...men are that they might have joy".

But to the topic...travel is very hard with a broken back. If I take something to dull the pain, I cannot experience the way I would hope for...so this trip "NO" changing planes, I am flying non-stop to Seattle, then on to the boat.

  19. My husband is a simple man and doesn't need much, in fact, he never asks for anything ever. So it's really hard to find something nice to give him on birthdays and other special occasions. Typically, we settle on doing a nice dinner (whether we go out or I make something for him at home) and that's it. He's always happy to do that but I'm wanting to do something else, too. My daughter has been working on a drawing, carefully colouring it etc., and will give that to him on Father's Day but other than a card, I just don't know what else I could do on top of that. My friends are giving their spouse's gift baskets and giftcards to hardware/sporting stores but he's not into the pampering stuff and his time is so limited that he doesn't get much time for hobbies (working on stuff or doing outdoorsy things). I'm totally stumped! This'll be his fourth Father's Day (and we're expecting another, too) so I'm kinda sorta wanting to do a little something different this go around.

Best Father's Day present I ever got was...

    Eagles Greatest Hits CD

    Neil Diamond Greatest Hits CD

    BoM on CD's

I used to have a very long drive and around City of Atlanta while policing. Just little thing you know your husband loves, but would never buy for himself.

  20. Next year the trip is paid for, my wife and I will be going on Alaska cruise. While in the Army I spent two months there for cold weather training and I a,ways wanted to take the wife to see Alaska. Interesting note...one day while there (the daylight hours lasted for four hours) the temp got up to 11 degrees, I was stationed in Savannah at the time and the news reported 5 degrees. :( COLD! On an Alaska cruise it is like sailing on interstate 15, looking up at the snow covered peaks.

When this is completed, I want to return to Europe, where I lived for, four years. In was in Germany where my wife and I joined the Church in 1979, we were sealed in the Swiss Temple. You can visit many cites on river cruises.

Beyond that...seeing my youngest son become a father...he was just married last month, so I have to wait; can't schedule that. :(

What is on your bucket list?

I am thinking of skydiving on my 60th birthday...two years to go.
