  1. >>preaching another Gospel There are those who declare that the false "another gospel" began with the visit of an angel of light -- that our mouth alone will save us. James tried to refute this false gospel -- faith without works is dead, and dead faith cannot save anyone Paul gave TWO accounts of his vision and contradicted each other. How long afterward was his account written in Acts == many years later.
  2. Since leaving the church, have you actually read the entire Bible? I have read and studied it many times, included the Greek. +++++++++++++ A study from the Pew Research Center shows that Mormons score among the highest of all religion groups in their knowledge of Christianity, the Bible and other religious information. ... In the study, Mormons scored higher than any other group in questions about the Bible and Christianity. Church members are often asked whether Latter-day Saints use the Bible. The Bible is one of the foundational volumes of scripture used in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. See also http://archive.sltrib.com/article.php?id=50374273&itype=CMSID for the details/
  3. Joseph Smith, blah blah blah Why don't you expose other prophets == MOSES -- used a mystical staff that magicians also used which could transform into a serpent. Killed an Egyptian hid his body, and fled out of Egypt to escape arrest. PAUL == arrested and threw into prison men, women and children for simply being Christian. Gave approval and consent for the stoning of Stephen An angel of light appeared to him on the road to Damascus. His account was written several decades after the event, and the two accounts contradict each other. He was arrested for being a disorderly person and causing a riot. PETER == took a sword and almost killed a servant, told a lie and denied knowing Christ multiple times. NATHAN == gave false prophecy about David building a temple.
  4. Temple found in the bible --------------------------------- We accept all the Word of God, including the Bible and modern revelation. Regarding the gnosis ==>> What EXACTLY did He teach them during those 40 days? Did he simply repeat the Sermon on the Mount 5,000 times? Forty days is a very long time to be teaching. Well, we get clues from the apostles. Peter tells us, For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. Billions of God's children have never even heard of Christ -- Peter tells us that they will also have that opportunity for salvation. And Paul, 1 Cor[40] There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.[41] There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.[42] So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:[43] It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:[44] It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. He tells us that the Christians did baptisms for the dead, Christ having taught that baptism is necessary for salvation. The there is Christ's promise to Peter, And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. That promise was then fulfilled and the ordinances could then be performed. There are those who call these “secrets”, or gnosis, and, as Christ said, “it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.” They are indeed sacred, and Christ has commanded us to keep them from the world but the hints are in the teachings of the apostles after the priesthood authority, the key to unlock (perform) those ordinances.
  5. Jesus and Satan brothers (rev) Evil did not exist anywhere until the creation of Satan. The teaching that Satan is a creation of Christ, is blasphemy that He brought evil into the world. Christ is not the creator of Satan nor evil. +++++++++++++++++++ Evil did not exist until the creation of Satan, as you would say. Greed, pride, envy, hate did not exist, did they?. Satan did not have the power of creation. It was an integral part of his inner being, his make up, his mind, his emotions. Where did those thoughts and emotions originate? How, who, and when were they created? You criticise us for our beliefs so let's hear you stand up for yours.
  6. >>revelation chapter 22 verse 18, if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book. You telling God that He cannot add to His word? Pretty arrogant telling God how to do His business. He is talking about the theologians and preachers who add their words to the scriptures, not prophets acting under the authority of God.
  7. FAITH VS WORKS I will let the Bible answer your question Mark 16 [16] He that believeth and is baptized (a work) shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Jas.2 [20] But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? [24] Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. [26] For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. What does Peter say about Paul;s writings ==>> 2 Peter 3 [16] As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. The mouth will not save us ==>> LukE 6 [46] And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and DO not the things which I say? Matt 7 [21] Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOETH the will of my Father which is in heaven.
  8. Polyandry This section has been revised based on the latest research, such as the DNA studies. See especially footnote 30. +++++++++++++++ [30] Hales, Joseph Smith’s Polygamy, 1:421–37. Polyandry, the marriage of one woman to more than one man, typically involves shared financial, residential, and sexual resources, and children are often raised communally. *There is NO evidence that Joseph Smith’s sealings functioned in this way, and MUCH EVIDENCE works against that view* NOTE: Hale's book is the latest research on this subject. Again see the videos by them.
  9. >>Mormonism is a satanic cult The scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, "He is possessed by Beelzebul," and "He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons." Luke 6 [22] Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. [23] Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets. Hallelujah! I leap with joy. We have modern day Pharasees, as well as living prophets.
  10. There are two different types of marriages -- the marriage for time (mortality), and spiritual (eternal sealing) marriage which takes effect only AFTER this life. They are not the same thing.
  11. >>Joseph Smith lied Abraham was Gods prophet and Pharaoh of Egypt was going to kill him if he admitted Sara was his wife. Abraham lied to Pharaoh and told him Sara was his sister and God stood behind Abraham and delivered him from Pharaoh .
  12. We believe what he actually said -- In the resurrection (after they have died), they cannot marry (no marrying ceremony in the spirit world) nor be given in marriage. He does NOT say, "They are not married" This eternal marriage can only be performed on earth by one having the key of authority from the Lord.. As Christ said to Peter, Matt.16 [19] And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and *whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven* and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. In the example given, none of the marriages were sealed by authority, so she did not have an eternal marriage.
  13. Evolution only a theory? Gravity and relativity have been proven experimentally , or predictions by direct observation==== and certain limited aspects of evolution, as well. But it is similar to motor scooter tasked to carry a ten ton load. There is a vast landscape of phenomena with no explanation on the horizon.
  14. A cult? The NAACP does not see the cit as a cult. Church leader gives a speech Mormon Apostle Addresses All-Party Parliamentary Group in UK House of Lords
  15. In the church, being gay is not a sin, but doing gay. Sexual immorality is an equal sin, gay or straight.
  16. One of the tactics that critics have used recently to try to destroy faith is to describe a lesser known event in church history in a way that is intended to shock the reader. By sensationalizing and removing it from its context, and often even misrepresenting what actually happened, the victim is left feeling betrayed by the Church, thinking they have been lied to. The first volume of a projected four-volume series has now been published covering the period preceding the First Vision up to two years after the death of Joseph Smith, when the Saints were able to receive the endowment in the Nauvoo Temple. It covers nearly every criticism and puts them in their proper context, where they can be more easily understood. It concentrates on telling stories of the actual men and women involved, rather than just the institutional church, as previous official histories produced by the Church have done. The result is a detailed history of the Church that includes the sensitive issues . https://www.amazon.com/Saints-Church-Christ-Standard-1815-1846-ebook/dp/B07FDPJ7MZ/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1538191391&sr=1-1&keywords=saints+the+story+of+the+church+of+jesus+christ+in+the+latter+days
  17. Humanitarian Aid “Over the past three decades, the Church and its members have given more than $2 billion in assistance to people in 195 countries and territories,” Elder Christofferson reported. “Last year alone we worked with more than 1,800 partners in 139 countries and territories on more than 2,700 humanitarian projects that served millions of people,” he added. Elder Christofferson said the Church responds to natural disasters by rushing hygiene kits, food, water and volunteers to stricken areas. Recent examples include the earthquakes in Mexico, hurricanes in the Caribbean and typhoons in the Philippines. https://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/elder-christofferson-participates-g20-interfaith-forum-argentina
  18. Let's be clear--"Mormons" really are Christian--they just don't believe in the doctrine of the "Holy Trinity" outlined by the Councils of Nicea in the 4th and 5th centuries, about which the Harper’s Bible Dictionary records: “The formal doctrine of the Trinity as it was defined by the great church councils of the fourth and fifth centuries is not to be found in the [New Testament].” This talk given by one of its apostles makes very clear the Mormon church's Christianity: https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2007/10/the-only-true-god-and-jesus-christ-whom-he-hath-sent?lang=eng
  19. BOM problems Quantum mechanics, the foundation of modern physics, also has many unresolved problems. If you think the BOM has problems, try to wrap your mind around entangled particles. A nyway, I think most of them have been resolved, and mostly an issue of the "not found, not exist" fallacy, and that our friends the Spanish destroyed virtually all the written records. Have you read the book "Mormon's Codex" by Sorenson? Lots of footnotes.
  20. Was Joseph a criminal? Decide for yourself. Facts about the 1826 trial http://www.lightplanet.com/response/1826Trial/facts.html Detailed historical documentation of Joseph Smith and the law https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mD2AYBYuw4E&list=PLssrZLbbAAOcDPkAskQFW2agfvwk7cNLz
  21. Actually the Book of Mormon was translated into Early Modern English, which is almost a century earlier than the Jacobean of the KJV. This is a detailed analysis of the English dialect of the BOM which lead to the claim of "grammatical errors" in the text -- the so called 4000 corrections
  22. In the July/August 2018 edition of "Biblical Archaeology Review" on page 33, is an article "Egyptian Papyrus Sheds New Light on Jewish History." The author is Karel van der Toorn. The article is about a papyrus roll discovered in the late 19th century at Luxor (ancient Thebes). It took more than 120 years to decipher the text. It was discovered that Egyptian Demotic script had been used to write Aramaic text! The translation turned out to be three Israelite psalms written about 400BC. This appears to be an example of "Reformed Egyptian" used by Israelites and discovered by non-Mormons!!
  23. talisman ==>> The only source of evidence that claims Joseph Smith had the Jupiter Talisman on his person is Charles Bidamon, made long after the death of Joseph and Emma Bidamon waited fifty-eight years after Emma’s death to make his certification, and notes that at the time of her death he was only fifteen years old. Anderson noted that Bidamon waited fifty-eight years after Emma’s death to make his certification, and notes that at the time of her death he was only fifteen years old. The list of items in Joseph's possession at the time of his death did not list the talisman among them In 1984, Anderson located and published the itemized list of the contents of Joseph Smith's pockets at his death. The list was originally published in 1885 in Iowa by James W. Woods, Smith's lawyer, who collected the prophet's personal effects after the Martyrdom. The contents from the published 1885 printing are as follows: No Talisman or item like it is listed. https://www.fairmormon.org/answers/Joseph_Smith/Occultism_and_magic/Jupiter_talisman#Question:_What_is_the_source_of_the_story_about_Joseph_Smith_possessing_a_Jupiter_talisman.3F
  24. Which gospel should the missionaries be teaching? Catholic -- baptizing infants, , Baptists -- baptism is optional, Calvinism -- predestination, TV preachers -- gospel of prosperity, Pentecostals -- slain in the spirit?
  25. NO BOOK OF MORMON MAPS Yes, we see the maps of locations in the Bible on maps. Now what? Well, the written records of mesoamerica were systematically destroyed by the Spanish invaders. In fact that we do not know even the NAMES of the ancient cities that archaeologists have excavated. They have given them modern names, unlike the Bible where there is an abundance of ancient written records which tell us where Jerusalem, etc are located. But over the past decades we have been able to preliminary identifications of certain Book of Mormon locations based on descriptions in the text. The scholars are NOT speechless by this question and several books have been written on this very subject Lawrence Poulsens 2008 conference address on Book of Mormon geography https://youtu.be/knw0pl8Ifsc?t=12m15s See the position of the church on Book of Mormon geography https://youtu.be/qIleo2RoEqE?t=1m10s Archaeologist John Clark, in his 2005 FAIR Conference address, makes several parallels between The Book of Mormon and Mesoamerica. He goes over stone boxes, ancient writing, warfare, fortifications, cities, cement, BOM and Mesoamerican art similarities, and Calendar. https://youtu.be/IzkiBtLrmo8 REPLY
