  1. Whether you or anyone else believes it or not really doesn't matter to me. I just thought it was an interesting thing to consider. Furthermore, I've come across this in two different places - neither of which had anything to do with religion - just health. Also, considering how many things there are about Mormonism that the outside world thinks are nutty, I'm really not concerned about this comment making it look like we're "from a different planet".
  2. A few thoughts: I've read about a study done that showed how prayer actually changes the molecules (?) in food so it is important but I do see what you're saying about it feeling repetitive. A few ways to switch it up: "please bless this food that it will nourish and strengthen us" "we ask that what we're about to eat will give us the energy that we need" "we ask a blessing on this food that it will do us the good that we need" Thanks is good but you have to ask in order to receive. As far as it being vain - only if what you're eating isn't actually food (ie processed junk...)
  3. I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I'm not in your shoes but I found this group that might be helpful: https://www.facebook.com/groups/397658227006605/ Also, the way I see it since you were both on the same page going into marriage, he doesn't now get to complain to you about taking the kids, etc just because he's the one that's chosen a different path. You need support so I suggest you no longer delay reaching out to family/ward members. All the best - hugs
  4. - rich means different things to different people - some personalities don't put much importance on $ and even just give it away when they think they have too much - some have the false notion that being rich is bad (ie "$ is the root of all evil")
  5. Let's try again - good gift: temple ordinances counterfeit: (I have an idea but would like to hear yours) good gift: priesthood counterfeit: (again, I have an idea but what do you think?)
  6. Not exactly the kind of responses I was looking for. :/ Re: pharmaceuticals - I said 'counterfeit' because it's well-known that they take the active ingredients from plants and try to copy it (though it usually comes with side effects). This is because they can't patent plants but they can patent drugs to make money. Furthermore, I said pharmaceuticals not modern medicine. There's a difference. Mod. medicine is good in some cases and there are life-saving skills for sure but it's not meant for every sniffle and it leaves people way too complacent regarding their health. Can we please stay on topic? Thanks.
  7. I was reading something recently that mentioned that for every good gift Heavenly Father has given us, Satan has a counterfeit. I've known that but haven't really ever thought of them specifically. I have a few ideas but wanted to hear yours. For example - Good gift: natural foods, herbs, etc Counterfeit: pharmaceuticals Good gift: personal revelation Counterfeit: psychics and horoscopes
  8. Is this it or similar enough (I just went with the brown robe reference)? It's the best google had and keep in mind that images can be 'trimmed' so you may have just seen a head shot when there's actually more to it. I'll also say that things aren't always how we remember them. Hope this helps.
  9. Yes, Jimmi, I wish him luck because whether or not this is something I would want, I know what it's like to not be able to find/track down something (quotes, books) that struck a chord with me. Also, I'm choosing to think that there was just a poor choice of words on his part and am giving the benefit of the doubt (after all, it was something he saw in a missionary residence so how bad could it really be).
  10. I don't recall ever seeing what you've described but there are a couple options for you to try - - a google search (as mentioned) - get on the mission fb page and ask if someone's missionary is living at that address and can take a pict and/or jot down the info Good luck!
  11. For the record - it's not your opinion that's out of line, it's your language and tone.
  12. Jane Doe - you said this better than I did and it's concise and very well put. Can I quote you?
  13. I hear you Eowyn and I'm also sorry about your dad. Great input so far so will just share the 'measurement' I use. I'll help/give once, even twice but once I've picked up on a pattern of ingratitude, etc - no more! There are others that need service who seem to actually appreciate it so I don't bother with the others. I say let the takers help the takers.
  14. Well, adultery for one. I don't think dealing with that puts a spouse in the mood!
  15. Good question. All I can say is that I hope to personally not find out! :) lol
  16. Umm - I only read the copy but saw the issue is about judgment, not jealousy.
  17. 2ndRate - Just remembered this that I saw a while back. Maybe it'll help --- http://thecarolblog.com/wealthy-people-money/
  18. Wow! TFP responded with some good points but I just have to chime in. There are a myriad of reasons why sex may not be happening in a marriage but I will just say this - some face issues in this life that fortunately will be resolved in the next which will clear the way for "all those billions of spirit children to be born" so you may not want to be so quick to judge. One other thing - what if a spouse requests things that the other spouse isn't comfortable with*? Do you still condemn that spouse for not being "willing to engage in sex" and think they'll "be happier in a lesser kingdom"? Like I said, there's a myriad of reasons... *to be clear - I'm not speaking about myself just giving an example to illustrate the point
  19. May I suggest you focus your attention on those that are doing something. Warren Buffett as well as Bill and Melinda Gates have given millions of their wealth to good causes. You can also look into "The Robin Hood Foundation". Aside from that I believe in hand ups, not hand outs. There is a big difference between the poor that don't have adequate food and water because of circumstance versus those that are poor by choice (i.e. they 'need' their fancy gadgets and cable tv but then expect others to put food on their table).
  20. No need to stress about this. It's quite normal to move beyond a teacher's ability to teach. My husband learned trumpet growing up and was told by a teacher that he couldn't help that much any more and it was time to find someone more advanced so he did and continued to progress in his talent. Just thank the current teacher, let him know you'll recommend him to others and call it good.
  21. I get where you're coming from and I can see how things *appear* the way you put them, but --- - I don't think those that know the 10 commandments and break them anyway will get a "free pass" when they're introduced to even more laws in the spirit world. - You don't see what regret some who are "living it up" are having/feeling or the consequences they face because of their choices. - Which would you rather have? Peace in this life because of your knowledge of the Gospel or always wondering about even the basics (where did I come from, why am I here, where am I going)?
