  1. If there is one person in politics that I just can't stand it would be Nancy Pelosi. Every time I hear her voice it makes me cringe.
  2. I am originally from Virginia, and believe me, these people don't know what humidity is!! Right now it's only 22%, so not too bad at all. I remember these type temps with 100% humidity. Don't even want to think about that. That is miserable!
  3. I've been trying to get a hike in at Mount Adams for the last two weeks but it's just been too hot to do it. At least I know that i will not find any snow on the roads there when I go back up for the hike.
  4. Wow, it is 105 degrees outside right now!!! High record for the day is 107, we may just make it. This just doesn't happen here in the great northwest very often. Lots of people here do not have AC in their houses! The sign at the Methodist church next door to work says... "Think this is HOT??":D
  5. Hope you feel better soon. I have broke ribs twice, one on each side. First one was giving my son pointers on "proper" tackling for football. Only problem with that.. he had on the equipment and i did not. Helmet to the rib cage and bingo. No very smart looking back. Second time slipped and just twisted wrong and POP, second one on the other side. One side has healed and never given any trouble. Football helmet side always has a little ache to it, but I have come to not even recognize it much anymore. Take it easy while it heals up, and watch out for those kids getting ready for football season.
  6. Welcome to the site!
  7. I will be more than happy to make a group for us... unofficial or course:D
  8. As a recent convert, I have not heard this comment much. Do have an aunt that is southern baptist that has raised some questions, but been supportive for the most part. I also refer people to the Articles of Faith and have also told people that if they would like to have open honest conversations about my faith I welcome it, but if it is going to be a closed minded argument I'm not interested.
  9. Hello and welcome to the site.
  10. I am at work with four programs running on my computer, reading the board here at times, emailing people in Nebraska and Virginia, chatting with a person in Nebraska, posting on Face Book, watching the stock market, all while checking in customers and listening to them complain we charge too much to fix their cars and to technicians complain we don't charge enough to fix the same cars.
  11. Came across this quote of President Monson from 1988- Maybe all of our "leaders" need to have a meeting with President Monson! "In our time, when otherwise honorable men bend the law, twist the law, and wink at violations of the law, when crime goes unpunished, legally imposed sentences go unserved, and irresponsible and illegal conduct soars beyond previously recorded heights, there is a very real need to return to the basic justice that the laws provide when honest men sustain them. Coming as I do from the world of business, I also mention obedience to the laws, not theories, of economics. One cannot continually spend more than he earns and remain solvent. This law applies to nations as well as to men. A worker cannot, in the long run, adhere to a philosophy of something for nothing as opposed to something for something. Nor can management dismiss as optional the necessity of an adequate corporate profit and a reasonable return to shareholders if an economy of free enterprise is to flourish. When economic decisions are based on theory rather than law, we find the chaos experienced a number of years ago in Uruguay: “Labor wanted higher wages; industrialists wanted bigger income; but nobody wanted to do any work. Citizens thought more of their rights than of their obligations. The country’s vast web of social legislation redistributed wealth but did not create it. … Nobody had the vision to see that what Uruguay needed was production.” (John Gunther, Uruguay-Utopia Gone Wild.) One person of wisdom observed, “Laws are the rules by which the game of life is played.” In reality, they are much more; for obedience to law is an essential requirement if we are to be successful in our quest for the abundant life." Thomas S. Monson Kind of shows how long these things have really been going on.
  12. No worries lost. Politics can really get people fired up quick! I enjoy some debate about it though on occasion.
  13. I will not willingly either. I think this country is starved for good leaders. The founding fathers are beside themselves I'm sure. It's not about what is right anymore, it's all about the money.
  14. Don't know about the rest of the church, but I am far from one sided when it comes to politics. I vote for and support who I think can best do the job, and in this case I didn't vote for either one of them, Bush(well did once-really dislike Kerry) or Obama, but I did vote!! I was just as vocal when Bush was in office as I am now. The politicians on both sides of the isle got us into this mess, and everything that is being proposed and put in action is not and will not help correct the problem. I supported 0% of the bailouts put in place by Bush and I support 0% of them under Obama. Right now, it just so happens that Obama is spending much more money. Keep printing money..... NO WE CAN'T!!
  15. Thats right, blame Bush!!! At some point this administration owns what is happening and I think we are long past that point!!!
  16. I wonder why we are delaying the release of this information? Everything is getting better right? The Associated Press: White House putting off budget update
  17. Well I have left it with him that I would be more than happy to talk on his nine points if he would like. And from being part of that church for a time, I can also say that they are doing a good work and bring many people to know Jesus. I told him in my email, that I hope at some point that we can stop concentrating on our differences and start looking at what unites us.
  18. Hi all. Just an update. I did send my former pastor a quick email Friday night and received a nice responce. I am going to leave the link here to his podcast if anyone would be interested in listening too it. One thing that I found to be kind of off in left field is that he seems to have the idea that the Book of Mormon is a translation of the Bible. I may have misunderstood what he said, but the note I posted previous in this tread seems along the same line. I listened to his sermon before i went to church today and found it very interesting that one of the talks was our responsibility to show people the light of our church. It was also brought up in Elders Quorum that some people don't think we believe in Jesus or the Bible. Here's the link Methodism and Mormonism Next week he plans a sermon about the same type of sermon based on the Catholics.

  20. Hi there, glad to have you join us!
  21. Hi Dan, welcome aboard.
  22. I don't think it is directed at me. There is a large LDS presence in the area there in Omaha, so I would say that is more the reason or something that has popped up there. I will not be attending for this, but will be listening to the podcast that he post weekly. I'm a long way from him right now. However I have thought about it all afternoon and have decided to email him tonight and let him know how happy I am being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
  23. Not really sure Pam. I think I'm going to send him an email tonight and ask him where this idea came from. Might even give him some answers to some of the questions/statements he has in his notes.
  24. He has a lot of good things to say as well in relation to our morals and family values.
