Here is one of the notes: .The Book of Mormon is much different than the Christian Bible. With the exception of Brigham Young University, there is no institution of higher learning in the United States that tries to substantiate or support the Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith used the King James Version of the Bible—not the original Hebrew and Greek—to write the “Inspired Version of the Bible.” He added (including a verse that predicted his own coming) and subtracted thousands of verses. And I solemnly declare to everyone who hears the words of prophecy written in this book: If anyone adds anything to what is written here, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book. And if anyone removes any of the words from this book of prophecy, God will remove that person’s share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book. –Revelation 22:18-19 (NLT) The quote from Revelation has been gone over many, many times. And as far as the versions of Bibles go, how many different versions are there? Every new "version" is someones translation of the original Hebrew or Greek, right? So i have a hard time seeing why it matters if Joseph Smith tried. And wasn't it Martin Luther that wanted to do away with entire books of the NT?

He has posted some of his notes for the sermon which i have been reading. I am still looking forward to hearing his sermon, but the notes are the same old things we've all heard and answered a thousand times. Title is "Nine Things I Would Say to a Mormon". I just might send him some answers that maybe he could use as well.

I have not talked to him about it, but I'm sure he knows. All of my family still talk to him as well, so may have picked it up that way, or may have seen that i changed it in facebook. And as far as the friends go, no contest here. Just realized that all my friends are people I went to high school with, and that's been quite a while back, lol.

Hi all. Was just on my facebook account and noticed that the pastor at my old church from Omaha, NE had posted what his sermon for this Sunday will be about. He is comparing Methodist and Mormons. From his post: finishing my sermon on Methodism and Mormonism: similarities, differences, how our beliefs apply to our lives. Found that to be very interesting that he was doing that as his subject. He is a great guy and i posted back that I would be looking forward to hearing it. If anyone would be interested in hearing it, i can post a link for the podcast once he gets it posted. And speaking of facebook, i'm always looking for more friends.

I like this one, reminds me of how I feel some times when working with Linux on one of my computers. Sometimes it seems it does reach out and hit me. Ok, here's another:

And being in the automotive service field, I hear all kinds of word and phrases i dislike daily that i will not repeat. Kind of goes with the territory in the auto world. I'm sure anyone that is in automotive service will agree that you hear all kinds of things during the days. Really have to tune out the world from 8 to 6

Not sure if this has been mentioned as i have not been through all 15 pages, but my kids always say freakin this or freakin that. Didn't bother me too much at first, but man. Going to start taking money away off their allowance every time i hear it. The other phrase would have to be Bra as in "What's up bra" instead of bro or brother.

I agree with what Honor has posted above. For several years I was like you. I constantly felt a pull to the LDS church. Heavenly Father tells us in the scriptures that we must ask him in prayer. We must come to him in complete faith and if we do this, the answer will be revealed. I can testify that he will answer. I felt kind of alone when i went to the services the first couple times. I think this is the case with any new church. However once i became serious in my search and honestly started listening to the whispers of the spirit, things took a big turn. When I returned to church meetings and started taking the discussions again, the warmth i felt gave me the rest of the answer I was looking for. It has been amazing since my baptism(which was about a month ago)and I have been welcomed into the church. Not everyone in my life agreed with my decision or were totally supportive. But I decided to put my life in the hands of Heavenly Father and to follow Jesus Christ. Best decision I've ever made. Continue to read the scriptures and pray. Heavenly Father will answer. Good luck on your journey.

Living together first can spoil marriage (gasp!)
mlbrowninwa replied to goofball's topic in Current Events
Well I for one can say that living together before marriage may help you to really get to know someone. Not that I think that it is right though. When i was much younger, I moved in with my girlfriend of five years after we had been out of high school about a year. We had dated four about 4.5 years before moving in together. We seemed to be the perfect couple. Six months later we decided to break it off as we both realized that we could not "live" together. We are still good friends and have both been married to great spouses for many years since. My wife and I have been married for 17 years and lived together briefly before getting married. We dated about 8 months and lived together about half that time before getting married. It has been great ever since. I really don't know if my longtime girlfriend and I would have made it if we were married first, but we may have worked at it harder. I have no complaints at all. The experiences before meeting my wife makes me appreciate her even more. -
Welcome Mark and congrats on your baptism.

Welcome to the site Lilac. As a recent convert i know what you're talking about with other denominations. I experienced the same. I looked and studied up on the LDS church for nearly five years before joining, but it has been the best move I've ever made. Good luck to you, and please feel free to post your questions. We are all glad to help.

Hi there and welcome to the site. Glad you found it.

Welcome to the site.

I will try not to bring that up in the future! And purple and black, black and white, white on white, purple and gold, whatever, just win. I actually wish everyone a good year. The more competitive, the better I like it.

There you go Pam, purple and black always!!

Welcome to the site malky.

Great news for us Ravens fans. They have resigned Suggs to a 6 year contract. Waited till the last minute, but got it done. We lost two good players over the off season, but the core of the best defense in the NFL is still there. Going to be a great year!! GO RAVENS!!!!! My name is Victoria, and I'm a prospective convert.

Welcome to the site!! As a recent convert myself, I can say you have found a great site. There are many helpful people here and all are willing to answer any questions you may have. I would recommend as others have to read the Bible and Book of Mormon and pray to Heavenly Father often. Call the missionaries and take the discussions. Don't be afraid to visit a ward near you and go to a service either. Good luck in your search. -
Hi Cricket, welcome to the site. I agree with the responses above. Return to church and just take your time. Gospel Principal class is a great place to start.

Pam, you jinked my Ravens. Derrick Mason, my favorite receiver has announced his retirement today. What a great job he did last year playing with a dislocated shoulder nearly half the season. I wish him the best of luck in anything he decides to do now, as long as he doesn't sign with another team in the AFC.

I really liked Mitt. I think he would have been an outstanding President and would have been much better at handling the economic disaster that we find ourselves in. Don't count him out though, he is about the only person left in the Grand Old Party. I think he'll make another run at it.

Purple and Black!!!! Lets go RAVENS!!!!!! I am ready to see the most feared NFL defense back in action!!
-
Oh yes Pam. And as soon as the season gets going again, i will change that avatar back to the Ravens logo. Still have it stored on the computer. HAHA

We talked about this in Gospel Principles a couple weeks ago. Everyone was talking about what they did or didn't do on Sunday. I personally refrain from shopping and put Sunday services first. However, I do watch football. I will not let it interfere with church(may record it and dare anyone to tell me the scores). I know that some people will not agree with me watching, but that is ok. I am a big fan of the Baltimore Ravens. Two of our star players are members of the church. I figure if they play on Sunday, i can watch on Sunday. It is something that brings our family closer together, because we all love the game. Other than that I do reserve Sunday's for scripture study and relaxing/recharging for the week ahead. Not sure how i got by before doing that.
