I was struck by some of the values given voice in another thread so I thought I would ask for opinions. What among your personal values would you die for?

This was the first thing to come to mind.

We are daughters of our Heavenly Father, who loves us,

and we love him. We will "stand as witnesses of God at all

times and in all things, and in all places..." as we strive

to live the Young Women Values, which are:

Faith

Divine Nature

Individual Worth

Knowledge

Choice and Accountability

Good Works and

Integrity

We believe as we come to accept and act upon these values,

we will be prepared to strengthen home and family, make and keep

sacred covenants, receive ordinances of the temple, and

enjoy the blessings of exaltation.

Ideally I would like to say that I am strong enough to die for any of these and that I am not scared to die. Realistically, I want to, but I know I'm weak.

To protect others (most likely candidate)...to protect rights and freedoms and values/beliefs (more stubborn than courageous I think) and self-protection or self-defence (realistically, I'm more likely to run and hide).

Er, they would have to be 'life or death situations'...or impossible situations.

Does it count if I would do my best *within moral limits* not to die in the process? Not taking your own life is a leading-value.

Since I'm not that great with pain I expect that I'll die complaining and whinging about it. I'm not afraid of death...pain however ..... Valiant is doable, valiantly I sincerely doubt.

I would die rather that deny my Faith.

I would die before betraying my country.

I would die protecting family.

The consequences of not doing so would, for me, be far worse than the physical death. To live without honor...integrity...without standing up for the things you believe in...death would be much easier. (for me)

My family is the overwhelming thought I have..

BandNerd, thanks for printing that YW's verse (or whatever you call it), since I returned to church in January, I've heard the YW and RS sisters reciting this once a month and have never been able to find a copy of it so that I can learn the words!! :)

No one hurts my family. I mean no one. I would give my life for theirs.

Freedom. I was born free, I will die free.

My faith in God. No one can take that away from me, other than myself. You want me to deny my faith, I would rather die. I have seen the other side when you deny what you believe in, and I don't ever want to go there again!

As I sit and ponder this question my mind goes to God. But to say "I'd die for God" that's easy. I hope to say I LIVE for GOD. (that's not so easy)

:conscience:

True. Death, though painful (probably) is a one time occurrence.

Living for God is a daily, active choice. On-going , never ending.

We had a talk similiar to this in EQ, and the teacher was tell us about a gentleman in JS time that was told to deny his faith or be shot. His answer was, I believe, "Shoot and be damned". The thought struck me at the time, how easy it would be to defend yourself, your family, and your faith, or to die for your faith, with someone standing next to you holding a gun to your head. I say this because I think Satan has much worse ways of leading us away from our Savior and his teachings. And I think that if you slow down and really look around you, you can see him in almost everything that you do. So I ask you, would it be easier to die for you faith or try to avoid the traps that the advisary is getting good at putting in front of us?

Having been there I would say to die for your faith. The advisary is so cunning. He slowly sucks you down and when you realize what is happening, he has you. Coming back to your faith is very, very hard. Satan doesn't let you go without a fight. Everyday I struggling to keep putting one foot in front of me toward exaltation. Definately, dieing would alot easier.

"We gave our today's, so that you can have your tomorrows." That is what was put on all the graves of the men who died in the Japanese campaign in WWII. In the same vain of thought, we have all those soldiers who have fought and died over in Iraq and in Afghanistan. But more importantly, Jesus Christ came and gave his today, so that we might have our forever's.

But what would I die for - my family, and my friends... "greater hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for a friend..... ye are my friends."
