Over43 Posted September 13, 2008 Report Posted September 13, 2008 We know the Gospel needs to spread amongst the Jewish people. At the moment it may seem to be a daunting task. However, like me, how many of you are decended from Jewish roots (German-Jewish myself) and you and your families have done temple work for your ancestors? So in many ways the Gospel is being spread among the Jewish people. Jon Quote
Lbybug Posted September 13, 2008 Report Posted September 13, 2008 i'm decended from Jewish roots (great great grandma on my grandma's side, great great great grandma on my grandpa's side). my uncle has spent a lot of time over the years doing geneology, and has recently (last 5 years or so) had the family start doing temple work for them. i like your post o43 :) Quote
Maya Posted September 13, 2008 Report Posted September 13, 2008 The man that lives with my daughter is Jewish, but not practicing. I suppose it is clair without saying that they are not members. Quote
Tamrajh Posted September 13, 2008 Report Posted September 13, 2008 I hadn't heard of any Jewish people converting to Mormonism but I wondered about that when I read in the Bible and BOM about the church being sent to them after it was given to the Gentiles. It's nice to hear that there are descendants of Jewish people who are members and are able to do their work for them. I'm glad. Quote

There's a college there, and there is a "hall of the prophets," paying tribute to contemporary LDS prophets. We have a SIGNIFICANT impact on the Jews. What's more, as any one who's ever been over there knows, our BYU center is about the most spectacular architecture over there. Quote
YoungMormonRoyalist Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 Here's an intresting tid bit for you all. Do you know that European Jews, especially Eastern European ones are largely (though not predominantly in some areas) descended from the Khazar Khaganate that is now part of the Ukraine and Russia? Around 800 AD the state religion was made Judaism by the monarchy in order to equally displease both the Eastern Roman Empire (Orthodox Christianity) and the Islamic Caliphate, rather than right out anger one of them? They were disperesed by the Prinicipality of Kiev and later by the Mongols. History fact of the day! Quote
NeuroTypical Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 A guy in our ward is a Jewish convert. He held a ward activity where he put on the passover dinner and explained it's significance to us. Great guy. And in 2007 (when I had access to the information), our church had exactly one Bishop Cohen serving. Somewhere in Nevada. LM Quote

Truegrits Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 At my Ward in Naples, there was a Jewish couple that had become LDS. They would often say how hard it was to deal with their families over their conversion. They both had very strong testimonies of the Gospel, though. Quote
Prodigal_Son Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 There's a family over in the Galilee region who runs boats on the Sea for tourists. You know, a big pile of Mormons out on the water singing, "Master The Tempest Is Raging"... I had the opportunity to get to know this family a little bit, as we went to their home and had dinner with them. It's AMAZING the parallels between Judaism and Mormonism. Such good people... Quote
dubhghall Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 I'm personally acquainted with 2 Jewish men who converted a few years back. They're 2 of the most spiritual guys I've ever met, and talking to them always leaves my head spinning when they get on the subject of similarities between Jewish mysticism and Mormonism. Quote
