First a Hardstuff plea to everyone. Lets not show our teeth before we know that someone is after us. OK this IS our LDS haven and sometimes... actually pretty often, there are people coming here with just ONE thing in mind... to spread doubt, unkindness, fear and destruction. We all know where that comes from, but not everyone who asks certain questions comes from there. Many come here with a tought of finding out. Some have more some less predestined opinions, we should not feed them. We will find out rather sooner than later wher the person is from.

I just felt like writting that as I red the posts.... heh dont think I manage to answer any more politely, I am no saint..... ops... no I am a saint... kind of laterday one... eh

To teh question I think Madeservant answered very well.

Where do we get the doctorine from??

We get our doctorine from God.

JS got the revelations with direct inpact from God. Our profet today will get a revelation when ever we, as a church, should know something. Sometimes even smaller groups, like the missionaries that were taken away from Jugoslavia two weeks before the was began. (I visited the country a year before and it was and had been a barrel of gunpowder for a long time, but no one knew when the big bom would come)

Doctorine is the discusition between our profet and God or the scriptures given to us.

Then again there are MANY things that are not a doctorine... fex. Nefites and Lamanites living in the whole of south and north America.... that was how many people understood the things then... it never was a doctorin. Critics try to fall the church by saying ti was a doctorine... but I never known a doctorine saying that. The Book of Mormon has no map prinmted in it. (In fact I heard that JS had poited out the district where we today believe things happened.... but that is not a doctorin that is assumptions as long as someone gets a revelation... )

Even the word of whisdom is nota doctorine it is a word of whisdom, which every GOOD LDS follows because they love and trust God their Father and want to do things His way not their own as they know it will be better that way.

When we pray and study each one of uss are entitled to recieve "doctorine" for us ourselves. Sometimes our doctorines may differ... but the difference is only because each of us are in a different step on teh ladder of understanding. We can not understand something without understanding the basics.

For ANYONE invetigating, pondering I would like to say that go for the basics first! When basics is good it wil stand even though a fire might destroy a part of the house! And then one can bild with better materials later. If one gets a feeling that the basics on LDS.org and other official sites is correct one should not worry about the building... maybe sonmetimes a plank or two have to be changed, some rooms reorganised, but the basics will stand!

IMHO

I guess that would be true, but you are looking for things that are “official.” The only place to find official teachings is from the official website of the LDS church. You can find plenty of other ideas, and even really good teachings, but that doesn’t make it official!

That leads to the next question do you more want official doctrine, or do you more just want answers to your questions (who cares if its official or not).

This is why the warning was giving.

Believe me I have read probably most of all the books that teach doctrine, most are really good and I can point you to a number of them. But doctrines that teach us the truth (which usually is important) comes from the scriptures, comes from the Church magazine, comes from General Conference (which is Oct 4-5). Again, knowing what is and what isn’t church doctrine isn’t as easy as going to some website, it takes learning the basics, understanding the scriptures, (and the spirit). And really its just time. Over time you come to realize what is taught and what isn’t! That isn’t going to be something you find on a website, nor should it!

I don’t mean to presume your question (what ever it is) isn’t important, what I am suggesting is you start building a foundation in the teachings of the church way before you try to put on the roof.

No, where do you get your Official doctrine from?[/QUDER

I disagree .

Post a question like Ceeboo does and there is someone here that may answer it for you ir link it. :D

You do understand why someone says they want 'The Hard Stuff', right? It will either be because someone has pointed him to something he doesn't understand, yet, and he wants to know the doctrine itself without understanding the underlying reasons for it or because he wants an official site to point people to and say "See? See what they teach?!?!"

In conventional Protestantism, it would be akin to saying "Jesus died for you 2000 years before you were born." without having him understand that man sins, that the nature of man is bad, that there is a God or that there is a life after death.

There would be many questions in that case, just like a student of Judaism leaping to the story of Noah's Ark and hearing that God destroyed every man, woman and child on earth without understanding why that happened. When people forge testimonys on scriptural railsplits(Where they know one thing without progressing to the next or the previous), their testimony becomes shaky because you don't understand why something is.

I would recommend speaking to your Bishop for discussion of the hard stuff.

or because he wants an official site to point people to and say "See? See what they teach?!?!"

Well im sure you will believe what you wish to believe but for the record and for the benefit of others who might read this i only have one intent here and it isn't to attack you're church ... So i am respectfully asking you to refrain from making assumptions about me or any investigator it is very disrespectful and it is also contrary the teachings of the bible , the book of morman and the doctrines of the church that you are supposed to be representing . This much i do know regarding how investigators and frankly all men are supposed to be treated.

To clarify i was told to ask a question like you would ask carl....

Why should i do that ?

Andrew,

First I must tell you that Hemi is one of my most favorite LDS members here on this forum.

He is indeed a very special creature of God :).

Having said that and to answer your question, I am confident that he meant no harm by it

( maybe he is fond of me like I am of him or maybe he just really likes Catholics :)) I would add, if it helps, I seldom understand what he is saying to me :lol::lol:, BUT I DO appreciate and like him a ton.

God bless,

Carl

Thats all there is to it .

My friend Andrew,

YES INDEED I LOVE HIM ( so should you by the way :) )

Let me explain, Hemi is my first cousin ( Mothers side ) and he has always looked up to me ( I am 3 years older than him and we grew up together in my Grandmas house )

I think he was " telling you to be just like me " because he wishes to only discuss things with peolple that are mirror images of Ceeboo/ Carl. ( People he admires so much )

Hope this helps you understand a bit better.:)

I have no desire to be like you and what an arrogant idea if that is true ... and if he wishes to only speak to people like you then thats what he should do ...

If you change your mind ( and wanna " play games ") you just might not only find your answers YOU DEMAND but you might also find a few new friends.:)

Carl do you have another website or perhaps a book you can reccomend that is written by reputable author who speaks the truth about the lds's teaching because that is what i am interested in.

Andrew,

Disclaimer: The following is from serious ceeboo :)

Sorry if I was offensive before, I will answer your question of me with the best of my very limited ability. ( due to the fact that I am not LDS and you probably are better off asking LDS directly )

The sites that I was able to do some research, as well as learn, were " Jeff Lindsay "

" FAIRS " " Mormon Apologetics " These three were very helpfull to me in answering a variety of things in my " bias " mind ( such as archeological evidences, JS translation process, history of the Church, and much more.

These, of course, are simply the ones I used.

For what it is or is not worth,

In my journey here on the forum, I originally came to ask LDS directly about many things as well as to gain their perspective from their eyes. The reason I have stayed is because I have enormously enjoyed the wealth of knowledge, wit, and humor available from so many members here. I have been humbled in my own faith ( I am Catholic ) and although I certainly do not believe some of what the LDS does believe, I have learned that there is indeed common ground with us broken people. To put it simply, IMHO, this site rocks and is a great place to share with ALL OF OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS.:)

BTW, I am not sure what you mean by " the truth about LDS teachings "

God bless,

Carl

If you are looking for doctrine of the LDS Church, perhaps a good start is to see what the Church defines as doctrine:

Approaching Mormon Doctrine - LDS Newsroom

This URL explains what is actually core doctrine, other doctrines, teachings, etc. It also explains how we LDS view each of these. So, the reason everyone here has given lds.org and mormon.org as the key URLs to go to, is because that is where you will find the most accurate doctrine. Every unofficial website will give you more opinions than you will find on the official websites.

We have found that many people will take a few sentences from a dead prophet, or off a website, and wrap it up as if it is our core and key doctrine - attempting to make us seem stranger than we really are. Worse, some will twist the words around to make it seem we believe in something we do not.

I would prefer any newcomer to begin with Mormon.org, where they teach our core doctrines. Once that site has been worked over well, then consider other sites, such as fairlds.org, etc.
