My nephew just received his mission call:lol: He has been preparing all his life for this- from the time he was old enough to dress himself he has insisted on wearing white shirts, ties and dark dress slacks to church. Even though his family could hardly afford it, they scraped to oblige. Thus his three younger brothers are much the same. Following in brothers footsteps.

He was so excited when he called and told me where he has been called to. He didn't request any special place. Put on the form, I will go and do what the Lord calls of me.

He didn't have his letter handy to read it off to me. It is in England, he thinks Birmingham - or something like that. He couldn't remember the Temple that the England MTC is near. So I am assuming it is the Preston Temple.

So all you British forum members- do you know where the England MTC is? Will he be near to you?

He leaves for England on the 23 of January 2009.

He has some months left to work and continue saving for his mission- He has worked since he graduated from High School. Told his employers that he could only work until he was called to leave on his mission- they hired him willingly. The owners/CEO of the business are not LDS - but they admire and reward honesty.

I am so proud of him. I am so happy for him.

That is awesome and I'm jealous. I really would love to visit England some day.

Birmingham is jokingly called the only foreign speaking English mission lol I hope he gets language training - the MTC is in Preston adjoined to the Temple

I am miles further North

I want to visit England too- my mothers side of the family hails from mostly England- plus I want to visit with Pushka, Willow, Elgama and all the rest of the forum members that live there.

How many miles further North?

I feel prompted to find as many of the members of this forum that are there in England- so that my nephew could have a safety net around him. Don't know why I feel like this- but in a way I feel really compelled. Pretty close to being obsessive.

I am so happy for him, Iggy.

My son is looking forward to his Mission, also. He sooo wants a foreign one; he wants to learn/speak another language. Although, you can serve a Mission in the U.S.A., and still need to learn another language. My nephew went to California, and had to learn Spanish. We have to have Spanish speaking missionaries in our area, small-town Georgia, because of our large population of Mexicans.

But, he wants to go "away"...:D

You've told me about your nephew before, and what a great kid he is. It is great to see you so happy about this.

If I were to go on a mission (stop laughing!), I would want to go to England.

Congrats!

about 400 miles I think - but I can give you my phone number if he is in trouble I know people who served in the mission - there are a lot of members in Sollihull as its the distribution centre. Also if he needed us to we could get to him or my Dad (isn't LDS) could as he is in Lincoln a lot with his girlfriend.

Very exciting news Iggy!!! What a great example he is to his brothers, as well. I love that he didn't request any place special, just that he would go and serve the Lord. Very nice!

Sounds cool, do all mormons have to do a missionary thingy? How long do they do it for?

Theres one in preston i think, which isnt too far but im south manchester- stockport area. One thing about n.england is theres always alot of subway stores, yum.

If he is goin to preston hes not too far away from blackpool, which is full of theme park in the summer and plenty of beaches. Also in late summer and autumn there blackpool lights. youve got to check them out. Also in preston they celebreate chinese new year, a celebration of the south asian culture, and caribean culture. If he does get a chance to go to manchester theres alot of places to eat and have fun. Man isound like a travel agent :P.
