Tarnished Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 I did a search to see if this book has been discussed as of yet, and finding nothing so far I thought I would bring it up. Before reading The Miracle of Forgiveness by Spencer W. Kimball I had always thought to myself, "Oh, only people who have something to repent of read that book." But now that I am reading it, irregardless that I am reading it for repentance purposes, I find myself thinking now, “Why didn’t I read this book sooner?”Though The Miracle of Forgiveness starts out a little heavy with the descriptions of sins and what we should be doing, it gives great advice and made me look at more than one area of my life. I also found myself thinking about children and what I would like to teach my children when I have them. The book is truly amazing, but I would say that the first few chapters are a bit difficult to get through. I find myself wanting to take quotes from this book and use them everywhere. After reading it for a little while I stuck some large post-its onto the inside cover so that I could take notes of ideas that come to mind as I read. As I read through the book I realize that it was written in the 60’s and I find it awesome that the advice given transcends time and technology. If I didn’t see the copyright date I would swear he wrote it just a few years ago by what he speaks of. I suppose that just makes it clear that things don’t change much over time no matter what we think. What is funny is that I have actually found answers to questions asked in the forums here in the book as I read. I have been tempted to quote it quite often. What actually astonishes me the most is that I have had two copies of this book residing on my bookshelves for years now and this is the first I actually picked it up and started to read. I am interested to see if anyone else has read this book and have thoughts on it. Quote
NeuroTypical Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 This book tends to polarize people. Some like it, some hate it. I've spoken with people who tell me this book brought them into the church, and other people who claim it was their reason for leaving. I'm in the "love the book" camp, mainly because I've followed it's advice and gone and sat in the Bishop's "hot seat". It was one of the hardest experiences of my life, and also one of the most rewarding, freeing, burden lightening experiences. LM Quote

"the truth hurts".I read this book as a loss of a bet. But wow...it was so enlightening to me. IT was very serious and sumber but it was truthful. It helped me understand the pain the Savior went through to atone for us. But I too had the book for a good 10=15 yrs before I read it. Quote
cullenh Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 I know that going thru repentence process is different for each person..... President Kimball is my favorite Prophet and I have read his book I found it very enlightening and that he was was truely inspired when he wrote it. Quote
Berean Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 I need to read that...I heard you are supposed to read the last 2 or 3 chapters first then the book form the beginning so you you do not jump off any bridges or anything...I guess he lets you know exactly *why* forgiveness is such a miracle? Hemidakota Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 This book is always great for a reread over and over again. :) Quote
tubaloth Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 The first chapter about the Plan of Salvation (the map of life i think) is probably the best one chapter about the Plan of Salvation ever. The sad thing is, as Kimball explained he never wanted to write a book. After reading this book we also wish he would have written more! Quote
Tarnished Posted March 11, 2009 Author Report Posted March 11, 2009 The first chapter about the Plan of Salvation (the map of life i think) is probably the best one chapter about the Plan of Salvation ever. The sad thing is, as Kimball explained he never wanted to write a book. After reading this book we also wish he would have written more!I agree, another book from him would have been great. The first few chapters are pretty tough, they really make you take a second look at your life and everything you are doing and even for the person who feels like they are doing everything right it causes you to take inventory and try to see where you can improve. Reading the book makes me think that Pres. Kimball must have been an absolutely amazing man. Quote
