Justice Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 (edited) then the poster said that I was suffering from angstI took it as Jim saying HE was suffering from angst, not you.I guess that's the misunderstanding I had that made your words seem a bit harsh. In any case, I see it now that I went back and re-read. I still think it's being blown out of proportion. I think we're just used to different vocabularies. Edited May 5, 2009 by Justice Quote

If I were speaking (instead of writing) I'd be smiling and chuckling a bit as I said it. Quote

Traveler Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 judgment and mercy? Is the expression of G-d's judgement different than the expression of G-d's mercy? Are both consistant and always present in G-d's dealing and covenants with men? Are we to think of the final judgement as part of his mercy or apart from his mercy? The Traveler Quote
Misshalfway Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 (edited) This is an awesome thread. I sure have enjoyed reading.I think what I love about the gospel of Jesus Christ AND the dictate from Him to follow and keep His commandments is that this whole repentance/obedience thing -- it is a process of progression. I may never become a perfect being in this life, but I can get better. I can learn to master different part of my flesh and things that might have caused me to stumble before can absolutely be turned into strengths. I think it is this process of obedient striving and then repenting....and even the temporary failures the devoted experience that literally refines us and then we slowly, step by step, become more like our beloved Savior. And then we are promised that Jesus will make changes in us. There really is no need to remain wretched, even though we feel like that on occasion.So.....maybe the sexy girl on the TV won't have the power to rev your engine as much as self mastery and obedience starts to work its magic. The Book Of Mormon talks about (Mosiah 5:2) the mighty change that Holy Spirit has on us when we truly repent. "....because of the Spirit of the Lord Omnipotent, which has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually."I really like that "no more disposition" line. It doesn't say "no more desire". It says that the very fabric of who we are changes. That sounds like good news to me. :) Edited May 6, 2009 by Misshalfway Quote
