Guest JoshDwellington Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Hey ! First of all, I'd just like to say I do not wish to lack respect nor do I intend to openly criticize anyone. Please take no offense from my words, thanks ! The issues i'm having currently are about sisters' nails and body hair. Last sunday we had a nice lunch/ picnic after Sacrament Meeting and I couldn't help but notice A LOT of sisters in my ward showed some very explicit body hair on that sunny sabbath day . . . I didn't stare at their legs (dead serious lol) but the very dark + thick hair on some ladies' calves, TOES and top of their feet were obvious as they all wore sandals / skirts. Some even had yellowish, decaying toe nails, with a full inch of dead skin, which cut my appetite quite quickly. My question is : I was told several times to wear a tie, a white shirt, to shave, comb my hair, etc. So do you think I have the right to feel ill at ease when I see such lack of body care (while showing their bodyparts in summer) ?? Have you personally experienced this before ?? Thanks Quote
ruthiechan Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Some people simply have dark body hair. It's not noticeable if you have blonde hair or if your hair matches your skin tone. You also have to consider culture. In some cultures women do not shave, not even their arm pits, let alone their legs or any other part of their body. I am sure if you don't let it bother you that you'll simply get used to it and it won't even be on your radar. Quote
Guest Godless Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Ruthie hit the nail on the head. You live in France, where heigene customs are vastly different from American practices. So long as everyone is trying to worship to the best of their ability, I don't think grooming practices are really an issue. And I sincerely doubt that God cares how much leg hair his female worshipers have. Quote

Guest Alana Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 I hate my feet because they are gross and I don't always shave. Pity me! Though, don't worry, it's not affecting my eternal progression at all. Quote
Gwen Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 i agree that god doesn't care and what country you are in can make a difference... i would like to validate the op's feelings though. if he doesn't like it he is more than welcome to not date those girls. or if he does get to know one and decide that it could go somewhere but the hair is a problem to respectfully discuss it with her. just as she may say, i think you could look cute with a beard, or i prefer clean shaven.. those are things he can theoretically do. he should give her the same consideration he'd want her to have for him. the reality is as ppl we have preferences on that kind of thing. there's nothing wrong with that. i don't think we should judge or pitty others that have different preferences but it's not wrong for us to have them. just to clarify i don't think it's right for anyone to date someone expecting to "change" them, or to expect someone to change something they can't... but some things aren't a big deal. considering your partner's feelings is part of being in a relationship. and i am talking about in a relationship.... i don't think there is a need to feel anything uncomfortable or otherwise for "strangers". Janice Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 I'm still thinking Josh was joking with his OP. Quote
HEthePrimate Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Don't be concerned about them--that's just the way they do it in France (and other European countries), my friend. I served my mission there, and we American missionaries just had to get used to it. Not that we spent a lot of time looking at women's legs during our mission. HEP Quote
Mahone Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 that's just the way they do it in France (and other European countries)HEPWhere do you get this idea from? I live in Europe and I can tell you now 99% of women shave their legs! We are in the 21st century too remember! Quote
Guest JoshDwellington Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 This is a joke? Right? HA HA?where I come from, women don't have that much body hair! (asia)I'm still thinking Josh was joking with his OP.LOL, I was dead serious Janice !at first I was frustrated b/c everytime I forgot to shave, or I'd grow a goatee i'd have people come to me and tell me how I should be clean and respect my body.Same with my hair (which is super short btw)The former bishop even gave a talk about how it's horrible to have dark nails !!!HOWEVER, can't say the same for my female counterparts . . .strong double standards lolDon't be concerned about them--that's just the way they do it in France (and other European countries), my friend. ROFL, i was sure someone would post that LOL, a lot of my American friends said the same thing, it's kinda true though =)Thanks for all the answers Quote
Vort Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 I sincerely doubt that God cares how much leg hair his female worshipers have.Interesting insight from a self-proclaimed atheist calling himself "Godless". :) Quote
Wingnut Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 ...I couldn't help but notice A LOT of sisters in my ward showed some very explicit body hair on that sunny sabbath day . . .Explicit? I had to read this about three times, because all I could think of with regards to potentially "explicit" body hair is if this was a swim party. Perhaps there was an excess of body hair, but I would hardly call leg and toe hair "explicit." Quote
Misshalfway Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Ok. We tell the boys to shave before things like dates and blessing the sacrament! But I have seen even the bishop with a five o'clock shadow and smelled Elders on P-day. I assure you, we all have our "off" days. Perhaps you are too used to seeing women plucked and posed and airbrushed. :) Quote
Guest Alana Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 This reminds me of 7th grade when my neighbor took me aside and said "can I ask you a really weird question? This is really weird. But, do...ummm... do girls poop? I mean, I know they must, but I just, well I just can't believe it." Sometimes it's good to view women as such fabulous creatures, but we're still human:) Quote
