LostSheep Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 I'm looking for some freeware, but can't seem to find it. I need a program that records your internet history, (on IE and Firefox), and then saves them to a text file, and automatically sends them to someone via email. I DO NOT want the following. Content blockers Key loggers Screen capture Conversation recorders Time limiters I JUST am looking for a simple program that will do this. I'm worried that it doesn't exist. Quote
Moksha Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 I can't imagine why you would do this to yourself. Is this to keep tabs on another individual? Quote
FunkyTown Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 I would suspect it has something to do with his father. Didn't you suspect your father was visiting pornographic websites? EDIT: If I'm wrong, I apologize. That's a pretty serious accusation. I seem to recall you posting something to that effect, but I can't be sure. I might be entirely off base. However, if you're looking for something that records key-strokes, you can get Spector Keystroke Logger. That'll let you know what whoever this person is is typing in to search engines and such. Wingnut Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 Covenant eyesI was going to suggest that (my parents use it for my 16-year-old brother), but the OP specifically asked for freeware. Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 If you're installing it on someone else's computer, there may be legal ramifications to your actions. Getting in touch with a lawyer in your state may be overkill, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to see what you can find on this issue via a Google search and (maybe) call your local police department or district attorney and see if they can give you any guidance. If you're installing it on your own machine: Blue Coat K9 does have an option to record internet activity and (I'm pretty sure) e-mail it to a third party; but it's first and foremost a content blocker. Moksha Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 I have no idea on the legality of entrapment when conducted by private individuals, but it does seem ethically out of bounds. Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 Legally, "entrapment" entails getting someone to do something they would not have otherwise done if you'd never gotten involved. :) Quote
DigitalShadow Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 (edited) A quick google search doesn't come up with anything that does specifically what you want and due to the nature of the software you are requesting, I would be wary of anything that you do find. I could create a simple program that does what you want, but as many people have stated, the legal and ethical implications of using such a program are serious. ryanh Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 I may be wrong here, but since LostSheep hasn't had a chance to reply more timely, I thought I would jump in and try to keep the thread from derailing completely. I believe LostSheep wants this for himself - to create a sense of accountability to someone else. And I think he is doing a good thing looking for a tool like this based on what I know. So, there is little or no intent of violating other's rights. I suppose if it is a common family computer, the family has to be aware of it, but that's easy to deal with. I do wonder though Lost if your family is involved in this, otherwise, wouldn't they be willing to put out a few $ for a reliable program? Quote
Mahone Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 What are you trying to achieve with this? I don't know of anything off hand which will do just as you ask and only as you ask - most software programmers prefer that their creations have a few more features so as to target a wider audience. If you let us know what you are trying to achieve and the purposes of doing it (providing it's not too sensitive), we might be able to suggest more viable alternatives? Quote
LostSheep Posted August 10, 2009 Author Report Posted August 10, 2009 Covenant eyesTHANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!*HUGS*This is EXACTLY what I need. I will give it a try.PS. This program is for me. I'm NOT spying on anyone...I'm letting others spy on me. Quote
Mahone Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!*HUGS*This is EXACTLY what I need. I will give it a try.PS. This program is for me. I'm NOT spying on anyone...I'm letting others spy on me.Hmmm. I still have issues with the usefulness of these programs - in my eyes the creators laugh all the way to the bank. From what I know of addicts, when they want "relief" they will go to extreme measures to get it - and bypassing local filter programs doesn't even take extreme measures, it's relatively simple. But that's my opinion on the matter, if it works, let us know! Quote
