You gotta love Robin Williams...... Even if he's nuts! Leave it to Robin Williams to come up with the perfect plan. What we need now is for our UN Ambassador to stand up and repeat this message.

Robin Williams' plan...(Hard to argue with this logic!)

"I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of a plan for peace. So, here's one plan."

1) "The US will apologize to the world for our "interference" in their affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini,Stalin, Tojo, Noriega, Milosevic, Hussein, and the rest of those 'good ole boys', we will never "interfere" again.

2) We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany, South Korea, the Middle East, and the Philippines. They don't want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No one allowed sneaking through holes in the fence.

3) All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We'll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of whom or where they are. They're illegal!!! France will welcome them.

4) All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit!!!! No one from a terrorist nation will be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself and don't hide here. Asylum would never be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers or 7-11 cashiers.

5) No foreign "students" over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don't attend classes, they get a "D" and it's back home baby.

6) The US will make a strong effort to become self-sufficient energy wise. This will include developing nonpolluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while.

7) Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go some place else. They can go somewhere else to sell their production. (About a week of the wells filling up the storage sites would be enough.)

8) If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not "interfere." They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides most of what we give them are stolen or given to the army. The people who need it most get very little, if anything.

9) Ship the UN Headquarters to an isolated island some place. We don't need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, the building would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.

10) All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us "Ugly Americans" any longer. The Language we speak is ENGLISH...learn it...or LEAVE...Now, isn't that a winner of a plan?

"The Statue of Liberty is no longer saying ' Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses.' She's got a baseball bat and she's yelling, ' you want a piece of me?' "

One would expect a piece written by Robin Williams to be smart and funny, which this lackluster synopsis of the Top Ten Sentiments Most Likely to be Heard on Right-Wing Talk Radio is not. Apart from the final quotation (an actual quip, sans original context, from his comedy act), Williams — a so-called "San Francisco liberal" whose left-leaning political views have angered conservatives and earned him billing on at least one Internet-posted "celebrity blacklist" — clearly did not write the thing.

Who did write it remains a mystery, if not a particularly interesting one. Early versions circulated in March 2003 before the Robin Williams tagline was added went entirely uncredited.

http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl-williams-plan.htm

Basically Williams got the credit, because the true writer quoted him at the bottom.

The sweeping generalisations of the first 2 of the statements above, which appear to be saying that ALL people from those nations in which terrorists live are terrorists, as the nation is no longer a nation...it's a Terrorist Nation...I think those countries might say the same about the Good 'Ole US of A!

The assumption that all the older people from those countries are BOMBERS!

The flippancy and aggressiveness of the other quotes above...and the callous attitude towards famine, although I will agree that there are problems getting the supplies to the people who really need them, and that this ought to be addressed. It isn't the fault of the people suffering that they don't get these supplies however, it is the fault of their governments, and this should be addressed by some sort of other body...the UN perhaps?

Whoever wrote that is a stupid moron who thinks that everyone on the face of this planet is trying to kill Americans. They're not. The insurgents who are trying to destroy America are only about 1/9999999999999 of everyone who comes into the country. If we closed our borders and refused to touch the rest of the world, not only would it go against what we've been doing for the past 226 years, but it would be the exact equivalent of a small child sticking their fingers in their ears and screaming "no no no". If we want to stop anyone from hurting us, we work with them instead of refusing to let anyone touch us until finally some other country(s) gets fed up with it and forces us to come out of our shell by attacking us and getting rid of whatever idiot president decides to pull a stunt like that in the first place.

Besides, where else would we get oil anyway? Alaska can't support the entire US, I can promise you that.

I have two oil wells out in the Uinta basin in Utah. They capped them when they started buying oil in the east and started the Alaskan pipe line.

There is still oil in the wells and we do get small royalty checks for what they call maintenance... but they are capped for no good reason.

I have to say that I agree with this!  The rest are callous and insensitive, although there is some value to some parts of them.

You may agree with this, but do WE make the effort to learn their languages if we live in their countries I wonder?

When I lived in France and Belgium, :D I learned their language. And while tracting we ran into many americans and everyone of them, unless they were new there, spoke the language of the country.

I'm glad to hear that in Belgium and France you made the effort to learn their languages...French is often taught at schools over here, so that wouldn't be such a big deal...I just wonder about some of the other countries..the Muslim countries for instance, as they are the ones that the writer appears to be addressing...

Shanstress I'm pleased to hear that you would too.

Btw, I'm not particularly trying to wind you two up, or appear aggressive in my questioning, I'm really referring to the type of people who write those kinds of articles, and make such sweeping judgements on foreigners...

I acutally almost flunked out of french in high school and I took spanish while in elementary school and couldn't figure it out there either.

Now I am semil fluent in spanish and totally fluent in french.

The thing is Pushka, we americans are expected to learn these foriegn imigrants (most illega) language and are even given a better chance at a job and better pay if we do. This wouldn't happen anywhere else but in America.

France is really strict about who gets in their cities and who doesn't. You have to have a carte de c'est jour.... and id card to be there and they check you any time they want. Probably more now since 911. If you don't have it.... you are gone or in jail.

Please, I'm sorry I made such a sweeping remark about the ease of learning French, I was mistaken obviously, it is an individual matter of course!

As for having to learn the languages of the other countries, and being paid for doing so, this also happens in the UK, we learn Urdu and it opens us up to more employment opportunities and so better wages I suppose...I don't think it's the ability to learn the language in particular that makes the job pay better, I think it's that the job would be paid at that rate anyway, but is more accessible to more people if they happen to be able to speak that language. Why do you presume that most are illegal immigrants? have you any real statistics to back that up?

Yes, I understand about immigrancy rules and regulations being stricter in some countries more than others...personally I feel it's about time we ALL learned that this world exists for everybody, not just for those countries that have enough wealth to control it, and own it's oil supplies and whatnot, and that we should all learn to understand each other and live together peacefully...I know also that there are faults on both sides as far as this is concerned, the extreme Islamic states as well as everybody else.

The statistics were given to us from the Utah state senate ... when they passed a new law that restricted the illegals from having a driving licience. They are now only allowed to get a driving permit and have to constantly renew it.

I get most of my information off the internet site our state provides. Utah.gov.

I also correspond regularly with Chris Cannon and Bob Bennett on subjects of interest in our state... they are our congressmen.

Yes, I personally would.

Good girl Shan! :)

Me too....it's the respectful thing to do.

Oh, P.S. SFields.... I laughed when I read the article just visualizing Robin Williams doing a stand up. I already knew he didn't write it...SNOPES.... but it still had humor in it. If we can't laugh at some things....than life gets pretty boring. I agree that some things hit home pretty hard....and there is a lot of truth in the main premise of thought... if you really think about it.

I really had to laugh at the thought of the Statue of Liberty swinging a baseball bat yelling " you want a piece of me?" The way I feel.... I would be right next to her with a bat of my own....telling her ...."I've got your back"

When I lived in Germany, I learned their language. I got a german driver's license, and yes, I could read the instructions in English, but only because the American military got them in English for us. Our government panders and caters to those who don't speak english... when I lived in CA, the driver's license manual was written in 28 languages... and it was darn hard to come by an English one because they spent more money on those foreign language manuals than the English ones.

I'm all for a national language... English all the way. If it's a melting pot, then melt, darn it, and become part of this nation instead expecting the nation to cater to you.

it's not actually the immigrants fault-- it's our messed up government that does it. If they said, "learn English" well, then they'd learn english. They don't have to, because everything is offered in so many different languages.

Good Statement MamaBear! :)

And I lived in Germany also.....learned enough German to be able to get around and do things....and just by trying.....the locals bent over backwards to help me even if I massacred their language....;) same as I bend over backwards to help those who massacre English over here...but at least they try.

But as far as getting a license over there.....holy cow! You wouldn't have caught ME driving.. you are a lot braver than I was.....I learned the bus and train system to get around......and on-post taxi cabs..... Because I would have been a danger to everyone on the autobahn. :o;)
