  2. I never said it's wrong to see good movies! I watched ratatouille just yesterday. Uhhh that was sarcastic, right?
  3. I use iMovie. I just hook up the RCA cables from the DVD player to my computer through a DV/VCR deck we have at my school. The computer recognizes the DVD input as a tape and I just hit the capture button. It seems a little complicated, but it only takes like thirty seconds to hook it up. Office Space! I love that movie! I totally need to edit that.
  4. So I found a trailer for a movie that Clint Eastwood produced called Letters From Iwo Jima, and I was very interested in seeing it. It's the story of Iwo Jima in WWII from the Japanese perspective. Anyway, I looked at the ratings and it's rated R. I know that we shouldn't watch R rated movies. Letters From Iwo Jima is rated R for violence. There's no sex or anything. So what I was thinking is... wasn't WWII a rated R war? It seems like if this movie is rated R for an authentic representation of what really happened, is it really bad to see it? So I was thinking about how might solve that R problem. I figured out a way to capture DVD onto iMovie (which is a video editing program on the computer), and if I buy the DVD and input and edit the movie myself, I don't break any copyright laws, thus making a non-rated R version. What do you guys think? Is that okay? I want to be able to edit it and show it to my friends or whatever, but I still want to make sure it's not an R movie anymore.
  5. In 2 Nephi 28:8, it talks about how many people believe that they can get away with little sins, and then be "beaten with a few stripes", and be saved. This is false. If such a philosophy is embraced, sooner or later those little sins will seem no fun anymore, and they'll turn into bigger ones, and then bigger, and bigger still. If someone goes and destroys their lives, the fact that they were sealed to their parents doesn't guarantee them anything after this life.
  6. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression. I think that the whole mark of Cain and Ham thing is ridiculous. Why would the Lord deny blessings to thousands and thousands of black people just because of what a couple of guys did forever ago? That just doesn't make any sense to me.
  7. True, the content of Eminem songs are certainly more distressing than the music. Think about it. Say you go and listen to some EFY and then rap music. What's the difference? It's the mood. It's how you feel and what you're thinking after you listen.
  8. The artist was Eminem. Personally, I have a hard time believing that any rap music, even Christian rap, is wholesome. How can such a rhythm invite the spirit?
  9. So I noticed my brother, almost 19 and preparing to serve a mission, started listening to rap music the other day. When I asked him why in the world he was listening to something like that, he told me that he just wanted to have experienced it. I was talking to one of my friends about this and she said that it makes sense becuase then you can come out from having "experiencing the evil" on top and better off. I think it's just playing chicken with Satan. Any thoughts?
  10. You said that all laws are based in morality. Nonsense. Some laws are but by no means all. There are laws that govern businesses like limited partnerships. Those laws are not based on ideas of "good" and evil. A Senator serves 4 years per term. It is not that a 3 year term is evil while a 4 year term is "good." Obiviously something beside good and evil is behind such laws. One of the reasons could be that having 3 year terms is too expensive in running too frequent elections and hiring and training new staff. Being cost effective is not the opposite of evil. Good point, Snow.
  11. Your right, I am a religious based bigot because I have been raised with those standards and I do not believe that homesuality or gay marriage could ever lead to happiness. I don't care how many people accept it or say that I should just turn a blind eye. What is wrong is wrong, and that's all there is to it.
  12. So you're saying that since Islam is growing faster than Christianity it's therefore the only correct religion? That makes absolutely no sense. Oranges ripen faster than bananas, so does that make oranges automatically better? Okay, so if you were beaten every time you broke a rule or made a mistake, I guess that since you think this is the best for everyone, then you wouldn't harbor any feelings of bitterness or resentment to those that hurt you. Mindless beatings don't teach people to obey the rules because it's right, it only teaches people to obey the rules because if they don't, they'll receive pain. Hence they are not conforming to the rule, they are conforming to the person delivering the pain, the oppressor.
  13. A good story, thanks Lindy!
  14. lol Sarah, yeah, I hope I don't have doctors like that! Then again, it never occurred to me that the Holy Ghost could be interpreted as a bodily trauma...
  15. apple, banana, kiwi, tangerine, it all works. <!--QuoteBegin-Snow @Dec 28 2005, 09:06 PMDo you mean the Adam and Eve of the Bible - some 6000 years ago - first parents? Who were all the other human beings that came before them if they were the first? ← There WERE no other human beings before Adam and Eve. Again, God created entire worlds, so what makes you think that he wasn't able to make a physical body for our first parents?
