  2. I never said it's wrong to see good movies! I watched ratatouille just yesterday. Uhhh that was sarcastic, right?
  3. I use iMovie. I just hook up the RCA cables from the DVD player to my computer through a DV/VCR deck we have at my school. The computer recognizes the DVD input as a tape and I just hit the capture button. It seems a little complicated, but it only takes like thirty seconds to hook it up. Office Space! I love that movie! I totally need to edit that.
  4. So I found a trailer for a movie that Clint Eastwood produced called Letters From Iwo Jima, and I was very interested in seeing it. It's the story of Iwo Jima in WWII from the Japanese perspective. Anyway, I looked at the ratings and it's rated R. I know that we shouldn't watch R rated movies. Letters From Iwo Jima is rated R for violence. There's no sex or anything. So what I was thinking is... wasn't WWII a rated R war? It seems like if this movie is rated R for an authentic representation of what really happened, is it really bad to see it? So I was thinking about how might solve that R problem. I figured out a way to capture DVD onto iMovie (which is a video editing program on the computer), and if I buy the DVD and input and edit the movie myself, I don't break any copyright laws, thus making a non-rated R version. What do you guys think? Is that okay? I want to be able to edit it and show it to my friends or whatever, but I still want to make sure it's not an R movie anymore.
  5. In 2 Nephi 28:8, it talks about how many people believe that they can get away with little sins, and then be "beaten with a few stripes", and be saved. This is false. If such a philosophy is embraced, sooner or later those little sins will seem no fun anymore, and they'll turn into bigger ones, and then bigger, and bigger still. If someone goes and destroys their lives, the fact that they were sealed to their parents doesn't guarantee them anything after this life.
  6. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression. I think that the whole mark of Cain and Ham thing is ridiculous. Why would the Lord deny blessings to thousands and thousands of black people just because of what a couple of guys did forever ago? That just doesn't make any sense to me.
  7. True, the content of Eminem songs are certainly more distressing than the music. Think about it. Say you go and listen to some EFY and then rap music. What's the difference? It's the mood. It's how you feel and what you're thinking after you listen.
  8. The artist was Eminem. Personally, I have a hard time believing that any rap music, even Christian rap, is wholesome. How can such a rhythm invite the spirit?
  9. So I noticed my brother, almost 19 and preparing to serve a mission, started listening to rap music the other day. When I asked him why in the world he was listening to something like that, he told me that he just wanted to have experienced it. I was talking to one of my friends about this and she said that it makes sense becuase then you can come out from having "experiencing the evil" on top and better off. I think it's just playing chicken with Satan. Any thoughts?
  10. You said that all laws are based in morality. Nonsense. Some laws are but by no means all. There are laws that govern businesses like limited partnerships. Those laws are not based on ideas of "good" and evil. A Senator serves 4 years per term. It is not that a 3 year term is evil while a 4 year term is "good." Obiviously something beside good and evil is behind such laws. One of the reasons could be that having 3 year terms is too expensive in running too frequent elections and hiring and training new staff. Being cost effective is not the opposite of evil. Good point, Snow.
  11. Your right, I am a religious based bigot because I have been raised with those standards and I do not believe that homesuality or gay marriage could ever lead to happiness. I don't care how many people accept it or say that I should just turn a blind eye. What is wrong is wrong, and that's all there is to it.
  12. So you're saying that since Islam is growing faster than Christianity it's therefore the only correct religion? That makes absolutely no sense. Oranges ripen faster than bananas, so does that make oranges automatically better? Okay, so if you were beaten every time you broke a rule or made a mistake, I guess that since you think this is the best for everyone, then you wouldn't harbor any feelings of bitterness or resentment to those that hurt you. Mindless beatings don't teach people to obey the rules because it's right, it only teaches people to obey the rules because if they don't, they'll receive pain. Hence they are not conforming to the rule, they are conforming to the person delivering the pain, the oppressor.
  13. A good story, thanks Lindy!
  14. lol Sarah, yeah, I hope I don't have doctors like that! Then again, it never occurred to me that the Holy Ghost could be interpreted as a bodily trauma...
  15. apple, banana, kiwi, tangerine, it all works. <!--QuoteBegin-Snow @Dec 28 2005, 09:06 PMDo you mean the Adam and Eve of the Bible - some 6000 years ago - first parents? Who were all the other human beings that came before them if they were the first? ← There WERE no other human beings before Adam and Eve. Again, God created entire worlds, so what makes you think that he wasn't able to make a physical body for our first parents?
  16. Okay, let me just clarify something here. We did not come out of a crackerjack box and we were not "seeded" by some alien species off of Star Trek. We were created by God. And he put our first parents, Adam and Eve, in the Garden of Eden, and then the whole apple thing, and then mankind became mortal, which is where we are today. But on to the whole other world thing-- I don't know about little green men flying around and sticking probes in peoples' you know wheres, but I can tell you there are certainly other worlds with humans on them. From Moses 1:33 we know that there are "worlds without number", and the chances of only one of them having any animals or humans on it is laughable. Besides, if you were a God and capable of creating an arsenal of complete PLANETS, why should you have to place life on only one of them? We don't know how many spirit children God has, and so for all we know, God could be managing hundreds of thousands of worlds with humans on them.
  17. You're right, I meant Chinese. I knew it was one of those two... *changed previous post to Chinese* :)
  18. Okay, I don't know why ANYONE would want to get pictures done at Wal-Mart in the first place. Every single thing that Wal-Mart has to offer or produces in their photo "labs", delis, bakeries, or whatever is, by definition, crap. Wal-Mart has a little bit of everything and NO selection. The last time I went there, I couldn't even find any Snickers bars. SNICKERS. I've also made it my personal policy NEVER to buy any electronic hardware (like computer parts, cameras, printers, stuff like that) from Wal-Mart because half of it is Chinese electronics, which means it breaks or dies in 2 weeks anyway, and the other half is cheap American crap from some small business in Texas or something that Wal-Mart bullied into selling to them at 1/4 of the price it takes to produce the stuff in the first place. And all so that they can charge 5x as much as it costs to produce, because, let's face it, Wal-Mart has run everybody else out of business and now there's no more competition and no more incentive to keep prices low. Voila, American Monopoly.
  19. I don't really think so. Kissing people just so you can beat everyone else to the goal doesn't help you, that's not love, that's selfishness. Besides, if you went around kissing every girl you've ever liked, you'd get Mono so fast it'd make your head spin. (Literally )
  20. Well put, Franken. People with high standards and who actually live by those standards tend to be much happier becuase they don't have nearly as much guilt or regret as they would otherwise.
  21. I ususally get on once every few days, more often if there's an interesting talk going on in one of the threads.
  22. lol. Well, I guess maintainance is an excuse to go to the temple in non-church clothes too.
  23. Whoever wrote that is a stupid moron who thinks that everyone on the face of this planet is trying to kill Americans. They're not. The insurgents who are trying to destroy America are only about 1/9999999999999 of everyone who comes into the country. If we closed our borders and refused to touch the rest of the world, not only would it go against what we've been doing for the past 226 years, but it would be the exact equivalent of a small child sticking their fingers in their ears and screaming "no no no". If we want to stop anyone from hurting us, we work with them instead of refusing to let anyone touch us until finally some other country(s) gets fed up with it and forces us to come out of our shell by attacking us and getting rid of whatever idiot president decides to pull a stunt like that in the first place. Besides, where else would we get oil anyway? Alaska can't support the entire US, I can promise you that.
