I thought that it might be fun to have a thread about some of the positive things that the church teaches and some things about membership in the church brings to ourselves and others.

This isn't meant to be the the LDS is this way and no others are. It's just something to think about for all of us. I think that there are somethings that everyone here could say that they like about the church or it's members. :D

I will start.

One thing I like is the importance the church teaches of family. Family Home Evening has been very beneficial to our family.

One of the things that has been a blessing to me is the encouragement of self-sufficiency, to inspire us to pursue any dream we have as to the economic and professional apects of our lives. And though thats no "new principle' in this selfish world, its very healthy for me to know i can pursue it having the Lord by my side, or may i say, me being by the Lord's side...lol

I like the idea that is taught in the Church about how we can and do actually receive personal revelation from God to guide us in our lives, both personally and to the entire world through the Prophet and President of the Church. Or in other words, the idea that through revelation from the Lord, each one of us is a prophet, even though we have only one Prophet through whom our Lord reveals His will to the entire Church and the world in general.

As far as I know, no other church on Earth makes this claim, not even the Catholic church, even though Catholics believe our Lord communicates with the Pope.

I like the idea that is taught in the Church about how it is never too late to learn the gospel, at least not until the day of judgment, when everyone will have heard it and chosen whether or not to accept it. Or in other words, even if we die, or hear a corrupt or incomplete version of the gospel message, we will still be given the opportunity to hear it and properly understand it before the day of judgment, when we will all be judged on whether or not we accepted it, as evidenced by how we lived and continue to live our lives.

As far as I know, no other church on Earth makes this claim, except for a few churches which apostatized from our church, but they teach things we don’t accept and vice versa, and they also don't have any place for doing the work that needs to be done, because they don't think certain things need to be done, thus showing that there is good reason for confusion concerning the gospel message... which can only be cleared up by having a way for each person to receive a personal witness or testimony from God.

What I like about the LDS church?

To be honest, its history. It is quite fascinating!

What I like about the LDS people?

Some of them are my relatives, most notably some of my nephews and nieces. They are very sweet, remarkable people.

I think it's kind of neat that you don't have to 'try out' other churches if you're of the LDS denomination. I've been visiting some Methodist churches, and there are about 10 that are within 10 miles of my house. How do I choose which one to go to? I feel that I should visit each one to make sure I go to the one I like the best.

I guess there is a flip side to this, in that if you don't like the 'feel' of a certain ward, you're stuck.

But I'm trying to keep it focused on the positive! ;)

Shanstress,

I guess I am Lucky...I never met a ward I didn't like. :D
