I'm a resident alien. Not an American citizen, but a Filipino citizen living in America. I read the original post and even if I have lots to say, I didn't post until now. It took me THAT long to get over the hurtful statements that I read into that first post.

So, maybe I misunderstood what the OP was trying to say. If that's the case, then the OP will need to read the first post again and see if maybe she can improve on the wording so we are clear on what the problem truly is (it seems I'm not alone in the misunderstanding).

If I understood it correctly, then there are 2 problems the OP presented:

1.) distracting translators,

2.) belief that there are criminals in her ward that the church is aiding.

My take on the matter - OP will need to dig into herself and straighten our her view of spanish-speaking people first before anything else. I have a feeling that once that is straightened out, both #1 and #2 problems will magically disappear.

i'm a little surprised i've not seen the suggestion to just sit closer to the front of the room, closer to the speakers or those giving the lesson. every unit i've been in the translator sits in the back. also every unit i have been in the back of the room fills up first and often (unless the ward is just that full) the front row is left completely empty.

I want to thank everyone for their responses. If my original post hurt anyone or made some folks "blood boil" that was not my intention. The "aiding and abetting" question was actually posed to me by a non-member and I wanted clarification on that. What I thought were questions that I wanted answers to because of my own ignorance and have seemed to turn into a free-for-all on my character. Comments such as..

"People dislike things that appear rooted in bigotry or elitism. I don't know whether the OP has racist or elitist tendencies but it's easy to read them into the original post"

"It kinda sounds like you have a bit of a vendetta against the hispanic/latino population that you really need to get over quick."

I will have you know,on a daily basis I have all different races of people in my home and welcome them with open arms. My sons and I have friends that are Asian, Hispanic and African American. I wonder how many of you that are so quick to judge me can say this.

My dilemma was the distraction in meetings which could have been answered with "move to the front", as a wise poster suggested, and I will do.

I hope anyone else that comes to this forum in the future with questions that may be bothering them and need patience, understanding and love doesn't get the same treatment that I have. My questions could have been answered simply by someone saying "It is not aiding and abetting because.......", But instead I was called a bigot, racist, etc. Not at all what I expected.

To those of you that had legitimate answers to my questions I so appreciate it and have taken it to heart and will pray about it.

People were explaining how you come across. They are saying your original post could be read as bigoted. They were not trying to assume intent, but written words on an internet forum often do not accurately communicate your intent. The quotes you gave don't say that they necessarily believe you are bigoted, simply that your post gives that impression.

Why did you stop at tendencies with the red color reply? It goes on to say that it is "easy" to read from them that my thoughts are rooted in bigotry or elitism.

Wow!

Hey guys, I hope it isn't too late to say my own bit. And don't worry, this has absolutely nothing to do with any racist bother. I have been considering the original post of Sisterjanedoe.

Dear Sister I will not say that I understand completely what you are feeling. The closest I have come is watching signing for deaf people. This is very distracting, however I always was fascinated by it. It has always been something of a splendor to me when members of the church, or any organization for that matter, have been able to help those in need in any way. On my mission I had the opportunity to teach a middle easterner who only understood very little english. Sadly I knew even less farsi (his native language). In church I would strive to help him understand what was said. I can only pray it worked.

One thing I do know. He felt the Spirit. Even if he didn't understand, he felt the spirit. And I am grateful for that.

I wish I could offer more practical or better advice, but there is only one suggestion that I can make. As you sit in church, consider what is being done for these members. Let the spirit testify to you of the love being expressed even as I think it has of the Saviors love for you. And always remember that more important than the words spoken are the feelings the Spirit brings. These feelings are what bind us, as well as what help us gain and keep our testimonies.

I sincerely hope that what I have said here can be of some assistance. I also truly hope that it has in no way caused offense or hurt to anyone.

I know sign language. And have given assistance when the need arises . I love using the skills I learned in sign language.

I no longer am worried with the original post that I started here but rather,I want to ask the question...."Who are you?"

I was judged with vicious accusations and yet no one asked me questions before spewing their venom against me. As I said in a earlier post,My intentions were not to hurt anyone but to get answers to questions I had.

I am so happy that the True Church is being taught to these members. That is the way it should be and is the Lords plan.

What I am NOT happy about is how I was attacked on this forum for asking questions that I wanted answers to. This will be the last time I post on here (unless someone makes my "blood boil") And to think, I wanted some spiritual understanding on this issue but have quickly found out, maybe I made a mistake.

Thank You for the love and understanding you have shown to me.
