Man that's horrible. I'm with the parents. Those that did this should pay for the laser treatments. Something to give them a wake up call. But you know that probably won't happen.

Has anyone seen any research or exposition on why bullies do this? Do they have common backgrounds or common needs that are met by bullying other people? Any correlation with crime or other problems later in life? Homelife variables that contribute to bullying?

Like the others here, I'm disturbed at what they did to this young man too. I'm glad to see they probably won't be getting away with it; perhaps this'll save some grief for other youth and adults the bullies run into in their lives going forward.

I am anti bully however we had a similar case here turned out kid lied to their parents so as not to get into trouble. If its true its awful and they should be scharged with assault

None of the bullies in this case are minors, so there's no "lying to the parents" issue. The article details what charges are being brought against the bullies.

given the description of the tattoo and the history given of the ppl involved it would take a lot more to convince me it was a lie.

According to court documents, VanNest told police the tattoo was his idea and admitted that he preyed on the younger, unpopular and frequently picked-on boy.

Notice the alleged bullies in this case threatened to "stop" if the victim got the tattoo, Borba says. That means he had been tormented for some time. And kids knew it: That's why they were talking about it in the halls. That's why there was an audience waiting for him to drop his pants.

i noticed in the comments section some ppl were also thinking sexual assault or child porn charges of some kind be included. given what and where the tattoo was i don't think that's a far stretch. if they can charge kids who willingly take pictures of themselves and send them to friends who consent to receive them with child porn surely this fits in there somewhere.

i can see how a kid would lie to avoid getting in trouble. why each case needs to be looked at individually.

Doesn't fit the law

NH STATE LAW: Sexual Assault

“Sexual assault” is defined as the non-consensual or forced contact or activity of a sexual nature accomplished by one person without the meaningful consent of the other

""Sexual contact'' means the intentional touching whether directly, through clothing, or otherwise, of the victim's or actor's sexual or intimate parts, including breasts and buttocks. Sexual contact includes only that aforementioned conduct which can be reasonably construed as being for the purpose of sexual arousal or gratification.

Justia> Law> New Hampshire Law> New Hampshire Code> TITLE LXII — CRIMINAL CODE (Includes Chapters 625 - 651-D)> CHAPTER 632-A: SEXUAL ASSAULT AND RELATED OFFENSES> Section 632-A:1 Definitions.

As horrible as this is it was not done for sexual gratification, ergo, not sexual assault.
