Dravin Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 In my limited experience stunts like this tend to generate interest in what the real deal is. Though I'm sure some few take it as gospel. Heh. Quote

FunkyTown Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 I hope it's great, and funny and heartwarming. When that silly, anti-Catholic book The Da Vinci code came out, people flocked to the Catholic church and joined in larger numbers than they have in a long time. I'm willing to give it a shot. Trey dated a Mormon girl and has shown that he likes them. They're always the sweet, naive type who genuinely like other people. That's a stereotype I want pushed. Quote

I have no doubt this "musical" is going to involve copious amounts of blasphemy. Quote

FunkyTown Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 I didn't know there was anything other than the South Park episode, other than this. There is Orgazmo, the story of an LDS missionary who falls in to the seedy world of pornography playing a superhero. He's a straight-arrow superhero who believes in waiting for marriage and never breaks that rule despite temptations and suggestions to the contrary. He doesn't lie, cheat or steal. There is the South Park episode where people are in hell arguing that they shouldn't be there because they were a devout (x). "I'm sorry. You were all wrong. The correct answer was 'Mormons'. Yes. Mormons were the correct religion."There was the Superfriends episode where Joseph Smith was a happy-go-lucky weather controller. There was the episode you're referring to.Parker has stated his understanding on atheism as,[23] "Basically ... out of all the ridiculous religion stories which are greatly, wonderfully ridiculous — the silliest one I've ever heard is, 'Yeah ... there's this big giant universe and it's expanding, it's all gonna collapse on itself and we're all just here just 'cause ... just 'cause'. That, to me, is the most ridiculous explanation ever."He's spiritual, but without the push to go further in to religion. Quote
Moksha Posted September 17, 2010 Author Report Posted September 17, 2010 If only they understood the true consequences of what they set out to do. I suppose this could be asked of the characters in each episode of South Park. Anyway, Kenny usually sees the light by the end of the episode. Quote
TL10 Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 The guys who wrote South Park are writing the play?! Oh no... Quote
NateHowe Posted September 19, 2010 Report Posted September 19, 2010 I think the title alone will kill it on Broadway. What makes them think they can charge Broadway prices for people to come and see "The Book of Mormon" in a posh theatre when we often have a hard time giving away the real thing for free? Quote

What makes them think they can charge Broadway prices for people to come and see "The Book of Mormon" in a posh theatre when we often have a hard time giving away the real thing for free? Do you think it might help if our missionaries utilized comical song and dance routines? Couldn't hurt.I think if I were given enough time and perhaps a Guggenheim grant to help stir the creative mayo and ketchup, I could come up with the choreography for a piece about Fry Sauce. Quote
Wingnut Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 The production may attempt to entertain audiences for an evening, but the Book of Mormon as a volume of scripture will change people's lives forever by bringing them closer to Christ.Newsroom Blog: Church Statement Regarding The Book of Mormon Musical Quote
