Tantalus Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Hi, recently a couple of guys my age came to my door who were missionaries and were wondering if I was interested in the Mormon religion. I told them I wasn't. They asked if I'm a member of another religion, I told them I'm not, but I was a Christian for a short period of time. He asked me why I left and I told him that I couldn't believe in a talking snake, or a person lived in a big fish for 3 days, and so on and so forth. He gave me a card with the morman.org website and he said to me "Well here you go thanks anyway" He then said "You're not gonna check that site out are you?". I promised him I would as I am completely open minded. Truth is I have checked the website already and didn't learn anything I already didn't know. Anyway, now I'm here because I want to learn how you people think and see if there's any truth I can find in what the Mormon religion preaches. Don't worry, I won't be an ass but I will be asking for answers. Sorry, saw this smiley and had to post it. I have mad SNES Megaman skills. Quote
Kurt Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Well hello there! You will love this place. We Mormons are usually freakishly happy people. It shows on this website. I have traversed the internet and have never found a group of people more kind than right here. You'll like it. :) Quote
Tantalus Posted December 23, 2010 Author Report Posted December 23, 2010 Thanks for the welcome. I've decided to take on the task and read all the scripture so I can understand the whole story. Once I'm done expect a LOT of questions. Quote
Tantalus Posted December 23, 2010 Author Report Posted December 23, 2010 I have also decided I'm going to attend some Mormon Church Services while I do this so I can delve myself into you're lifestyle/culture. I wanna get the full experience. Hopefully I can convince some of my friends to do this with me so I don't feel like a loner. Most of my friends are agnostics like me so their minds are open as well. Hopefully they wont be too busy. Quote
Maya Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 Welcome T. I hope this site is helpfull in your search. Here my favorite smiley: Quote
Jbdf Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 Welcome, Tantalus! I'm not Mormon, but people with questions are my favorite kind of people. Quote

I have mad SNES Megaman skills.Careful a couple of those guys knocked on our door 14 years ago. I told them I didn't believe in organized religion but I believed in God and had developed my own belief based on God being logical when I was 13 and that religion I had looked into was even close to that.I told them they were welcome to come back and talk but had no chance of brainwashing me into their cult. ( It was easy to say since I am pessimistic, not a joiner of anything, and very suspicious over motives of organizations.)Their reply was "We are not here to convince you of anything, that is the Lords' job. We are here to offer to share information, you then take it to the Lord and he'll tell you want to do if you are sincere. I looked hard for hidden agenda's, lack of logic flow, and questioned everything because the last thing I wanted to do was join a church. I then made the ultimate "mistake" of doing what they said and asking God.Long story short My wife and I have been members for 14 years, best "cult" I was never brainwashed into. Quote
Backroads Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 Welcome! Late as we've already conversed, but I'll make it official. Love comparing faiths. Quote
