I'm a recent convert and just have one concern that i heard in sunday school. Today in young women's learning about the Priesthood. And the teacher read out of the book and said one of the blessings for the men was that if they did their duties of the Priesthood, that God would bless them and they would become gods in the afterlife. Alot of us girls were confused and we get our own worlds. Then a elder that was in the room added it's like we are kings and queens. Is this true? Is there doctrine to back this up? I just want some more details.

Thanks:)

I have always looked at this as the eternal growth. It always pained me more when I would think about some views of heaven (before I joined the Church, I is a convert too ;) ) . I do not see getting everything you ever wanted and having everything as the perfect ending to anything.

I want an eternal progression, I want to continue my growth, I want to continue through that eternity, not say wow, this is it...forever...uh, ok...now what? It may be my own simplistic view of a vast mind boggling plan that we can only grasp the basic fundamentals of, but I hope that I get the opportunity to progress in so many more ways.

To ultimately make it to the level of God, what a journey and a goal to set. I better get back to work.

I see your point, but having 'everything' would include having progression. /beingpickyaboutwordchoice

So does that mean there are tons of universes with other gods with people just like us? Would we still worship and love our Heavenly Father?

You shall have no other God before me.

We will always be subject to our Heavenly Father. I grew to be a man in this life and had no less respect and admiration for my father for it. It didn't change the fact that he was still my Dad. No matter how old I got, how much I did in my own life, my family, my job, it never diminished who he was in relation to me. If anything it only added to him. His son did all these things and hopefully he was proud of the child he raised.

I have children of my own. I try to raise them the best I can. I hope they exceed me. I am very proud of all their accomplishments. They will have families and build lives of their own someday and have their own little "worlds" separate in many ways from mine, but still interlinked. If we are made in God's image and we are striving to be like him, then why wouldn't all of these lessons and progressions we make here on Earth be an emulation of what's to come?

Is it such a stretch or too hard to see our progression any different than our lives here growing up to be our own adults, being our own heads of families, directing others lives? What difference is it to simply see it as becoming Gods like that which made us? Growing up to be a God like our Heavenly Father. Now I think that's a lot of growing up to do, but that is our ultimate progression. Oh, and something from your original post, women make all of this possible. I think all too often we diminish the role of women in this process and they are EQUALLY important in all things.

There may be infinite beings who share the Glory that God has, but there is only One God, and to us there is only one Father, and only one Savior.

I also like to point people to the LDS Scriptures Topical Guide. Read those verses (particularly the New Testament verses) and decide for yourself what they mean. I think the NT is explicitly clear on what our potential is.

Man, Potential to Become like Heavenly Father

Logical inference would say yes, but God hasn't said that there are other ones. And yes we would still be ruled and worship God the Father no matter which outcome. The best example we have is Christ...

Did Christ have Divine power and authority?

Was Christ still subservient and worshipful of God the Father?

Revelation 3: 21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

There's also a scripture in the New Testament that says we'll be joint-heirs with Christ. Since God the Father said all are Christ's and we are joint-heirs with Christ that means all are ours as well. Also, look up John 10:34-35.

I agree with what everyone has said so far, great comments. I think one think that helped me understand this concept a lot better was when I had a family of my own. Whenever my children do well in school or I get to participate in one of their achievements I see the joy it brings them and myself. That only comes when there is such a strong loving tie to each other like that which comes with family. This is why we use words like "heir", "Kings and Queens", "Father in Heaven", "Brother and Sister", etc. One of the key factors for God's eternal progression is His charitable tie with each of His children.

I think of what I would do for my children to help them succeed and how I get to share in their success, what a joy that is to me. That kind of joy can be ours forever if we learn how to find happiness in the success of others. Being Christlike teaches one that charitable trait of pure love. With pure love, then every success we have our Father delights in. We can have that ability too in the next life if we start to learn it here, that is what is meant by being 'Kings and Queens', to have 'posterity-like' connections with others and their success.

What does it mean to be a G-d? Until the universe was created was there no G-d? It is my understanding that creating is not what made G-d - G-d. It is my understanding G-d was G-d before he created the universe.

As to worship - It would seem to me that the more intelligent and good we become the more we will love, appriciate and worship G-d. I would be concerned with the idea that as we become more enlightened that loving and worshiping G-d would become meaningless.

String theory tells us there are 11 known dimensions and that our universe is part of something called the omniverse. The omniverse is described as an ocean of universes, some large and some tiny. In other words, mathematically anyway, there may be a limitless number of universes. When two universes come into contact they may create another one which may remain small or grow to as larger or larger than ours. Go to NOVA | The Elegant Universe | PBS for the PBS documentary about it.

Of course this is all theory but it is theory subscribed to by world class physicists and researchers. The Large Hadron Collider was built to research such things. CERN - The Large Hadron Collider.

Romans 8:16-17

16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

17And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

If we follow the doctrine that Jesus and Heavenly Father are two separate being from each other, then we can read this scripture as saying that we are heirs of God, who is our Father, and we are joint-heirs with Christ, who is our brother, and we are blessed with everything that Heavenly Father has (providing we lead lives worthy to enter into the highest Degree of Glory). It is a hard concept to grasp for me, but scripture definitely supports it.
