DAnn Posted May 18, 2011 Report Posted May 18, 2011 We just heard of a couple we know getting "approved" to be called as a mission president, and the wife of course, as a missionary. It made me wonder if there is a process couples go through and if it's not a call that comes out of the blue. Any info? Quote

Any info?I recall hearing that there is a list kept of potential individuals that they keep and go over when they call mission presidents. Don't know what it takes to get on that list. Quote
Guest saintish Posted May 18, 2011 Report Posted May 18, 2011 I wonder if you could sign up for a regular couples mission and wind up being a mission president? Quote
Daybreak79 Posted May 18, 2011 Report Posted May 18, 2011 I don't know how either of my mission presidents were called. I had heard that my second president had just turned in papers to be a senior missionary and then was called as mission president, but that could just be missionary folklore. I do know that both of my mission presidents served as missionaries in my same mission under Pres. Monson when he was a mission president so maybe Pres. Monson had been keeping track of them all these years. Quote
pam Posted May 18, 2011 Report Posted May 18, 2011 I have a former Bishop of mine on facebook who is also a former mission President. In fact he was Dravin's mission President. I'm asking him. Quote

david5923 Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 Stake Presidents pray over who they think are potential candidates. Then they give it to the 1st Presidency who then prays and comes up with a name (if its even on the list, if not they know by inspiration). Then the 1st Presidency calls and asks if they will serve as a Mission President. I know my mission president was called by President Hinckley while he was driving on the freeway. :) Quote
DAnn Posted May 20, 2011 Author Report Posted May 20, 2011 Well, I heard that there is an application process to go through for most people and that calls no longer just come out of the blue. Quote
pam Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 I got a little bit of information from my source. I'm asking him more questions. He states that a member of the Twelve Apostles meets with the potential mission presidents and their wives to learn about their personal circumstances, health, finances, children. etc. Quote

If you were active you would know that the First Presidency announced there is now an 11th Commandment.Thou shalt not make fun of Pam's age. Quote
pam Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 Okay so answer. Directly from a former Mission President. It is the job of the area Seventies to become aware of and recommend couples whose circumstances would allow them to serve. Then a member of the Quorum of the Twelve will interview the couple as I mentioned earlier in this thread. Quote
