Hello, I'm Nancy, nice to meet you. I am an atheist who is wanting to learn about the Mormon faith. My friend is Mormon and she suggested I come here and see if I can learn about the faith. She doesn't come here anymore unfortunately, but I plan on being active.

Hi Nancy. Welcome! People on this site are generally really nice and enjoy talking about their faith.

To learn basics about our Church beliefs and doctrines, try LDS.ORG (not .net) or to MORMON.ORG. On the site you're on right now, you will read snipits of LDS faith from anonymous members but nothing official. Mormon.org is specifically for anyone who wants to learn more about LDS.

Welcome :)

Welcome Nancy,

To reinforce what ChooseTheSun said, this is more of a question and answer site. So you are going to see snippets, and slice of life bits which might not make a whole bunch of sense without the overarching context that most of us here use and assume others understand. The sites ChooseTheSun linked to are good to helping build that context.

So be aware of that but don't let it stop you if you wish to jump right in. There are many of us who would be willing to explain things once we understand where you are coming from.

Hiya Nancy. Welcome. I'd be curious to know who your friend was that used to come here.

Welcome Nancy,

I agree that if you are investigation the LDS Church Mormon.org or LDS.org or even requesting a missionary to visit are options to get accurate answers to what you may be seeking about the church.

I have not been on this forum for very long but have found some great conversations. Chime in and share your story.

I am alsways a little curious about when one saus they are athiest why they are referring to as I have found it to be a variable term. Do you mean no belief on God or no belief in organized relision. Just curious. Looking forward to seeing you on the forum.

While the others are right about going to the official site to learn about the official statements, I have found that with some patience and discernment, this is a great site for learning about the thinking of a variety of LDS people. I've been here just short of six years, and have found that when I run into "live" LDS people, they quickly say I know quite a bit of their church and beliefs. And nearly all of that came from here. Just realize that some know more than others, and even the most knowledgeable will ultimately tell your their answers are not completely official. Still, it's an enjoyable site with good people.

You may also be interested to know that we usually have at least a couple of active atheists posting on these boards. From what I can tell, they enjoy this site, and find most people positive in their responses.
