john doe Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 No, it's a direction, of sorts. Opposite of what's down. Quote
FunkyTown Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 It could also be an adjective, as in 'I'm up! I'm up! Quit shaking me already.' It really depends on the context up is being used in. It could be an adjective, as described. It could be a noun, as in the film 'Up'. It could a direction: "Look up!" , a verb: "I upped the ante." Good topic! I hadn't considered just how wide and varied a usage this simple, two letter word could have. Quote
applepansy Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 (edited) Or maybe the OP really wants to know "what's up?" in which case I would say "My ceiling" Depending on what time of day my answer could even be "ME" Edited June 9, 2011 by applepansy Quote
FunkyTown Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 Or maybe it's a really deep philosophical question: "What, really, is 'Up'?" What those people on the other end of the world would call 'Up', we would call 'Down'. What those who exist in Space would call 'Up', we would call 'North'. And if we assume that Heaven is in the sky, then 'up' is really a transcendental existence - A call to greatness that drives us further and further onward to glory. And so, I ask again, what is 'Up'?" Quote
applepansy Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 And so, I ask again, what is 'Up'?"Right now in this moment "my grandson is UP!!!" Quote
