A couple of questions if I may

1.) Alright, what is the deal with the history of Black people and the church? Did any President make some sort of Authoritative declaration on the issue?

2.) BOM- Did it take place in Central/South America? Much of the literature I've read on the subject indicates this, but I'm wondering on your opinions.

3.) The Great Apostasy- What happened to cause it? What was it?

Thank you guys for any response :)

1) I'm not sure about the history here.

2) BOM location - I think it was probably in Central America, which is probably the general consensus. There are other's who would dispute this. As it's not directly relevant to our salvation the Church has not, and probably will not formally address issues like this.

3) The Great Apostacy resulted from the loss of the Apostolic priesthood authority that was needed to officiate and run Christ's church. The Apostles were spread out preaching and were killed faster than they could be replaced. Without that authority to act in Christ's name and to keep doctrine consistent, the church fell into apostacy.

I assume you're talking about the priesthood not being extended to all worthy male members until 1978 - and not the actual history of black people and the church - right?

Because when you get out of the 1978 issue, and look at the history of black people and the church, you find a whole bunch of cool things. Here's a cool timeline full of contributions of and events affecting black LDS members through history.

As for your question, there have been a lot written on the subject. The link I gave is a good source, as is doing a thread search on this site for the topic.

We don't know. My only opinion on the subject is that even if we did know, and have totally verifiable and unambiguous proof solidly establishing the Book of Mormon as a historical document as well as scripture - there'd still be a bunch of non-LDS critics finding reasons to criticize.

3.) The Great Apostasy- What happened to cause it? What was it?

Here's a summary of LDS sources on the subject.

Depends what exactly you mean by "the issue". The 1978 declaration (which can be found here: Official Declaration 2* ) extends the priesthood to all worthy males. If you mean has there been any authoritative declaration on when and why the ban was initiated then, to my knowledge, one doesn't exist.

2.) BOM- Did it take place in Central/South America? Much of the literature I've read on the subject indicates this, but I'm wondering on your opinions.

I don't care. Now I'm not trying to be flippant or dismissive, there are many interested in such and I don't think there is anything wrong or wasteful about such interest, it's just not an interest I share. I'm not particularly interested in Bible archaeology either so it cuts both ways for me.

3.) The Great Apostasy- What happened to cause it? What was it?

It's culmination would be with breakdown of priesthood authority in the Church, what caused it was the persecution of Church leaders. As far as what it was, it was the breakdown of priesthood authority, more particularly that of apostolic authority. If that had been maintain even if there had been a general apostasy with a nugget of the core Church persisting in X location with the apostles it would have been 'recoverable'.

All we know is that the ban of Blacks from getting the priesthood for a period was inspired or was put into place by proper authority becasuse subsequent prophets were given answer to prayer not to undo it for quite some time. we have not been given a reason of why it was put into place at that time by revelation.

Many have taken offense to it, and many have seen it as a blessing, on both sides of the fence in the church.

2.) BOM- Did it take place in Central/South America? Much of the literature I've read on the subject indicates this, but I'm wondering on your opinions.

most researchers that get into BoM history think so. there has not been anything with a sign saying "this is <name of BoM nephite city>" on it yet. altho there have been lots of tantalizing things have been found. There hasn't been any revelation given to the church on this subject per se, beyond it being in the americas.

3.) The Great Apostasy- What happened to cause it? What was it?

the apostacy was the falling into wickedness by the church/gods followers. this is always happening.

The significant series events that occurred in the past was that all the apostles were killed before they called in enough apostles to replace those who had been killed. without apostles to continue being the mouthpieces of God or to conttinue the higher authority the church fell and eventually ceased to have the higher authority it once had as well as the direct guidance of God, and then later through wickedness lost any authroity it had.

Thank you guys for any response :)

Do we know for a fact the policy was inspired and by revelation as you state?

We discussed this at length in the following thread if you are interested in the topic as much as I am :) :
