lds2 Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 (edited) In her training video she talks about tents and our family storehouse overflowing...Relief Society Training Materials 2011 "Self Reliance" By Sister Julie BeckRelief Society Training Materials"I have a sense and a feeling as we have watched some of these disasters in the world, that this is a time for us to learn and prepare from these experiences. Sister Thompson gave a testimony of that, and the preparation happens in our own homes. There are not enough tents in the world to furnish every person with a tent unless the members of the church have a tent in their own homes... And then the storehouse is pressed down, heaped over and running over in our own homes...If an earthquake or economic disaster happened, would you have enough water to drink...? would you be able to get by until help could come to you? Those are the kind of the things we need to be thinking about in our day and time, the Lord expects us to do our little part and then He can bring on the miracles and then we don't need to fear."..."I bear you my testimony that the gospel of Jesus Christ is True and His principles will strengthen us individually and as a family and as a people, as a Church, as we listen to prophets of God we will be okay. We don't need to worry about being alive in this scary time. The world has had scary times before, and the Lord has always taken care of His people who have been faithful.***So what are the prophets telling us to do? Well they just completely revamped providentliving.org and told us to learn about "providing in the Lord's way" which means to become self-reliant so that you can help others. We should study the June 2011 Welfare Section and Providentliving to learn how to do that...at least that is what President Uchtdorf said in priesthood session.. Edited October 19, 2011 by lds2 Quote
annewandering Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 As the church becomes more involved with disaster relief it is surely more clear what is needed and what isnt needed. It was probably about time to examine and revise the suggestions. Quote
Guest Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 A guy went to his psychiatrist to tell him about a recurring dream: "I'm a teepee, I'm a wigwam. Then I'm a teepee, then I'm a wigwam." The doctor said, "Your problem is simple. You're two tents." Quote
skippy740 Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Forget the tents. Buy a gun. Then you can loot everyone else around you and get what you need and protect what you've got. Problem solved. *not really, but I had to say something. Quote

So i would hazard to guess that in times of disaster such would be a boon to both an individual's family, and to any that come to them for succor. Quote
lds2 Posted October 20, 2011 Author Report Posted October 20, 2011 I was noticing on the new provident living site that emergency preparedness is emphasized...https://lds.org/family/family-well-being?lang=engbut then there are a lot of quotes about tents and being gathered to places of safety in the Last Days...and I would assume you might need a tent for that too...President Eyring in the Priesthood Session said, "This is the third time I am repeating this scripture...always remember with me when I repeat something it is not boredom but inspiration...because the fact is, if I was told to do this again it must matter." pam Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 I see tents as an important thing to have. In the event of a major earthquake and your home is unsafe to enter, you have to have some place temporarily to stay. Tents would be one obvious solution for a temporary fix. Quote
lds2 Posted October 20, 2011 Author Report Posted October 20, 2011 I guess that is why Sister Beck mentioned them...I'm sure people will need them in the future and I was pondering why that might be...just like she said that our homes should basically be "overflowing" with home storage (food, etc.). I think of filling a suitcase...pressing the clothes down...and then trying to squeeze as much more in as one can...that is how our homes should be with home storage at least that is how she described it. pam Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 When you think about the earthquake in Haiti, thousands of tents were needed to help with shelter. To me it's just a no brainer. Quote
