Vort Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Tevye's third daughter, Chava (Hebrew name rendered in English as "Eve"), was lost to him because she -- wait for it -- partook of the forbidden fruit in marrying a Christian. Obviously this was intentional, but I never noticed it until now. Quote

NeuroTypical Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Tevye and Golde have been role models for me and my wife, as we try to have a happy and eternal marriage. And also, after 5 years, I still love my signature. Quote
Guest Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 The scene with Chava and Tevye at the train stop is so heartbreaking. Moreso since I have 4 daughters of my own. Neither I nor DH can watch that movie, and especially that scene, without clouding up at least a little bit. Okay, I may or may not ugly sob. Don't judge me. Quote

Don't judge me.Pretty sure that was Tevye with his second daughter, Hodel, who married the (Jewish) radical. Chava was the one who ran off with the Christian boy, and whom Tevye subsequently disowned. Quote
Guest Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 D'oh! I thought he sang the "Little bird, little Chavala" song as the train pulled away. I guess I need to watch it again! Quote
pam Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Tzeitel was the oldest. Hodel married Perchik and went off on the train. Chava the youngest married the Christian. Quote
NeuroTypical Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 And that's what comes from men and women dancing! Quote

In the original stories on which the musical was based, I believe he had seven.) Quote

Perhaps I could have added of the 3 that got married..Chava was the youngest. Quote
