Anddenex Posted June 7, 2012 Report Posted June 7, 2012 Tipman, If you are loosing your testimony here is some counsel: 1st - Check under your bed. It is amazing what we find under our beds. 2nd - Check between the sofa cushions. Just make sure you wash your hands afterwards. 3rd - If not there, pray, it is amazing how often we find things after a sincere prayer? My question to you Tipman, would be, "Have you received a witness from the Spirit?" If so, then trust in that witness. There are many things in the Old Testament that appear to be very disturbing. The first and foremost, people are not perfect. We do not know the history or the actual reason why certain things were established. We don't know why, it was ok for Sarai to beat Hagar, or deal with her severely and when Hagar fled, was commanded by the Lord to go back and submit herself to Sarai. Yet, despite our lack of knowledge, God remains as God. The witness, remains as a witness. The test, for us to submit to our father's will, to see if we will do all that he commands, still remains. The consequence of retreating from Godly commandments, still remains. When ever I am in a position of such confusion, I remember my roots, my faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. I am not going to Church because of a Book, although very important. I am not believing in God because I have good priesthood leaders. I remember, my love for Christ and what he did and what he accomplished for all God's children. Remember, opposition, is an opportunity for us, in many instances, to be proven, that we will remain faithful, and do all that God has commanded. Peace to you Tipman. Quote
Hala401 Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 Hi, I'm back and crazier than ever (actually, I am getting an appointment with a doc to probably diagnose me with ADHD). So I'm having a hard time because I've been reading some stuff in the Old Testament. Ha, you thought I was going to name some anti book. Anyway, these verses from Exodus just blow my mind:So someone could "buy an Hebrew servant" and after six years the servant (slave) would have to be let loose, unless the slave is a maidservant, in which case she could be kept for life (verse 7). Why did God condone slavery? I must have grown up in ignorance because I have always thought that God wants people to be free. And families don't seem to be very sacred. Verse 4 explains that a man would have to leave his wife and children behind if he leaves after the six years. What's up with that? There are some things that I can tell you about historical writing that will just blow your mind. The times written about are in almost religious PRE history, and you can bet times have changed. You can't take your little sister and worry about what it would be like for her to be bought and sold in those times. It just will not work.Having been around a few different religions, I have to say that there is something very scary, unexplainable and special happening with Mormons. What happened to me at first defied any logic that I can apply. It frightened me at first, not because anything bad happened but because I had no way at all to measure or explain it.Please just hang in there. We all have times of doubt and hardship. Quote

Guest Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 You don't even have to go so far as the Old Testament. I mean, just 30-odd years ago, God told us not to confer the priesthood to blacks. Gasp! Line upon line... each to its season. Isn't that great that we have prophets? Quote
skippy740 Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 I mean, just 30-odd years ago, God told us not to confer the priesthood to blacks. Gasp!Line upon line... each to its season. Isn't that great that we have prophets? Not sure we want to go there. I cannot confirm that particular statement. However, it IS great to have prophets to help correct the past and help "true" us towards the mind and will of the Lord.D&C 1:24-3024 Behold, I am God and have spoken it; these commandments are of me, and were given unto my servants in their weakness, after the manner of their language, that they might come to understanding.25 And inasmuch as they erred it might be made known;26 And inasmuch as they sought wisdom they might be instructed;27 And inasmuch as they sinned they might be chastened, that they might repent;28 And inasmuch as they were humble they might be made strong, and blessed from on high, and receive knowledge from time to time.29 And after having received the record of the Nephites, yea, even my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., might have power to translate through the mercy of God, by the power of God, the Book of Mormon.30 And also those to whom these commandments were given, might have power to lay the foundation of this church, and to bring it forth out of obscurity and out of darkness, the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth, with which I, the Lord, am well pleased, speaking unto the church collectively and not individually— Quote
Jamie123 Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 Because Rabbi Glassman, a shameless liar, is portrayed as a sage.OK - I've never actuallty watched this show. Isn't this an ad-hominem argument? (Or are you not disagreeing with what he actually says?) Quote
richards Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 Please don't base your testimony solely on things in the bible. Don't forget that we believe the bible so far as it is translated correctly. In addition, the Old Testament and rules in the first 5 books were fulfilled by Christ. That doesn't mean there isn't value in them, but read the New Testament and Book of Mormon for Christ-related information. Quote
