Welcome!

You should definitely attend Church Services! It's quite different from Catholic Mass and you might find that it's boring because there's no pomp and ceremony and rousing choir music and responsorials, etc etc. it's basically a few minutes of ward business, a few minutes of breaking bread and water, and the rest (about 40 minutes or so) is 2-3 people giving a homily (we call it a "talk"). Sometimes you'll get one of the leaders give a talk so it's a more experienced toastmaster-worthy talk, most of the time the talks are given by members of the congregation who are not professional speakers. The congregation would sing opening and closing hymns and maybe an intermediary hymn, sometimes you get a good organist that can get some mileage out of the hymns or you might get a newbie organist and the congregation will need to help out some... It's truly a sacred human experience. This is what we call Sacrament Meeting.

Then usually, after this, we go to Sunday School. There are several classes for different purposes. You would be guided to go to Gospel Principles class.

Then after this you would go to Elder's Quorom which is a class for the Priests. You can qualify for Priesthood at age 12, so you'll be with men from 12-years old and above in that class. You don't have to be ordained a Priest to go to that class. You will learn what Priests learn in there.

The women go to Relief Society (RS). They discuss the same things the Priests discuss but geared towards the role of women in God's Kingdom.

Yes, when you get baptized, you can start preparing for a mission. Your bishop will guide you on what steps you need to take.

Okay, some lingo:

Parish is called a Ward

Diocese is called a Stake.

A Bishop presides over the ward

A stake president presides over the stake.

You attend church services in a ward building.

Mass is called Sacrament meeting.

The temple is a special place where you make higher covenants and perform vicarious ordinances. You'll need a temple recommend (like a pass) to enter the temple.

So yeah... Hope this helps some.

Wow! That was great thank you very much! I am just nervous because I have never even met a Mormon before and I have no idea what to expect.

You can say you've met me! Lol. We're the same as Catholics... Just trying to do the best we can...

I spent a lot of time in Catholic Mass with my husband (before I joined the church) and I don't find myself bored in Sacrament Meeting at all. I'd take it over a Mass any day.

As a convert myself, I would say definitely attend Sacrament meeting and the other meetings before baptism. Understand what you are taking on before you get baptized. Go sit on the temple grounds (you can't attend the temple until you have been a member for at least a year and go through certain steps to prepare) and feel the Spirit there. Keep up the lessons with the missionaries...get to know people in the church. Ask questions!

Being baptized into the Church will be the best decision you ever make.

Just don't forget that you will be leaving the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ made present in the Eucharist. I will pray for you.

Please keep in mind this in an LDS site. While we love having those of other faiths join us, we ask that all be respectful to our beliefs.

Noted and agreed. So do you mean by this that I cannot express my beliefs?

Why are you expressing your beliefs in the "LDS Gospel Discussion" forum? Are you under the impression that expressing your Catholic beliefs somehow qualifies as "LDS Gospel Discussion"? Because if you do, you are sadly mistaken.

No, I have just had questions that have been unanswered since I left the LDS at 18. If you prefer I can ask LDS on Catholic Answers for answers.

You can ask LDS questions on LDS Gospel Discussion.

You can discuss the Eucharist in Christian Beliefs Board section of LDS.net.

It is generally considered disrespectful to LDS to attack their beliefs in the LDS Gospel Discussion section and your post did just that.

Let us investigate your claim. You wrote:

Perhaps you can point out the question in your declaration above. I'm just not quite seeing it.

If you prefer I can ask LDS on Catholic Answers for answers.

I don't much care where you ask your questions, assuming they are sincere questions (which, understandably, I doubt). But you didn't ask a question here. You made a condescending and rather stupid statement, then pretended it was a question.

Not sue I understand your question...

First, why is it so understandable that my questions are not sincere? You know me this well?

Second, yes my comment about Catholic Answers was condescending and I apologize for that, but it was not stupid. It is out of frustration that I can't get straight answers from the two LDS posters at Catholic Answers that my question was asked in that tone.

It seems to me a way to filter non-LDS from LDS and those investigating the LDS faith.

Given your utter lack of any relevant question at all in this thread (despite your proclamation to the contrary), it would seem understandable to doubt your sincerity in asking questions, assuming you ever got around to actually asking any.

Second, yes my comment about Catholic Answers was condescending and I apologize for that, but it was not stupid. It is out of frustration that I can't get straight answers from the two LDS posters at Catholic Answers that my question was asked in that tone.

Admitting a fault and apologizing for it are admirable things. But I still don't see what question you're talking about. I look through this thread and can't find that you ask any relevant question.

I used to post at CAF. I got banned. For defending LDS from the abhorrently anti-Mormon Non-Catholic section of the forum. The reason given: proselyting. You can't really blame us for avoiding that site like the plague.

It's a method of organizing threads... People who do not want to discuss non-LDS doctrine can just stay out of the Christian Beliefs Board (hence, the disrespect if you bring those discussions here). So, if you posted there, don't expect anybody on this section to know what you wrote over there. This is true for all sections of LDS.net.

Hi DeusCaritasEst,

Are you talking about the Non Catholic Religions forum on that site? If you are, then by all means ask your questions there. The LDS there will do their best, although some of the more contentious posters make it a little difficult.

You can also ask your questions at Mormondialogue.org.

LDS.net is a site to ask questions, not to argue. This is not a debate forum. If you want answers, ask away. If, on the other hand, you are interested in showing us why our answers are insufficient, because catholicism is right and we're wrong - this is not the right board for you.

That's what we're trying to do here. Just because there's bashing going on someplace else doesn't mean we tolerate it here.
