M_T_E Posted May 18, 2013 Report Posted May 18, 2013 After a great deal of poking at me my local missionaries got me to meet with them today to witness a baptism, was an interesting and somewhat enlightening experience. I heard several different testimonies. If time works on my side tomorrow I may attend a church session as well, but that's up in the air for now. Up until now I've never been witness to a baptism beyond my Methodist cousin being dipped in the water of a creek on a cold spring afternoon. Quote
Smudge Posted May 18, 2013 Report Posted May 18, 2013 I am glad that you were able to watch a baptism. How did it make you feel? Quote
M_T_E Posted May 18, 2013 Author Report Posted May 18, 2013 I could tell I was witness to something special and meaningful, it's not something ill ever forget either. I'm pretty grateful I had the opportunity to watch this finally. Quote
M_T_E Posted May 19, 2013 Author Report Posted May 19, 2013 And to add, I wouldn't mind watching more. Quote

M_T_E Posted May 19, 2013 Author Report Posted May 19, 2013 If time allows tomorrow I will try to attend Sacrament atleast, I have a full day planned but am going to see if I can get in there since I don't have to work for once on a Sunday. Quote
beefche Posted May 19, 2013 Report Posted May 19, 2013 You should let the missionaries know that you would like to attend another baptism. I'm sure they can find out about another baptism either in the same building or another in the area that you could attend. Quote

I'm sure they can find out about another baptism either in the same building or another in the area that you could attend. The Church that my missionaries are based out of doesn't have a baptismal font I believe, but every conversion story get together and baptism they have invited me to has been at a location even closer to where I live, I just fall on the edge of the area for the one they are in which I don't mind. I let them know I wouldn't mind seeing more, transfer orders come out on Wednesday though and I am hoping atleast one of them sticks around in my area for another period. Both of my last two missionaries got swapped out, one still works in the area the other one got moved a distance out. We are going to try to get together on Tuesday (I have that day off) and study some more.Sadly I didn't make it to a church service today like I was hoping I would, plans dragged out longer than expected and this was a rare Sunday I have off. Hopefully in a week or two I will have a chance again! Quote
sarah331 Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 That's amazing! I'm seeing my first in September when we go to my niece's. I'm really looking forward to it. Quote
Jamie123 Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 How did it make you feel? That's what they kept asking me the first (and only) time I saw a Mormon baptism. I didn't know what to say except "Nothing really - I just saw a guy get dunked in the water".The only thing that really impressed me was the way he held his nose as he went in. I wasn't expecting him to do that. I thought it gave him a rather comical appearance - though I suppose it makes practical sense. The only other thing I remember was that there were several young children present, who laughed like anything when he went in!I knew the fella vaguely. He and I were both grad students at the same college at the time. Quote
