It's beautiful, clean, quiet, and peaceful. Everything that a house with 5 small kids is often not.

Lakumi, every ten years or so, the LDS Church's monthly magazine (the Ensign) does a special issue about LDS temples. The most recent one was in October of 2010. You can find it online here. Once opened, most of the articles will allow you to download a PDF version showing the original magazine spread which includes plenty of exterior and interior photographs of LDS temples .

I always found them fascinating, even when I was growing up as an atheist and I just looked at them as buildings.

Where as the old churches of Europe are like Castles, LDS Temples are uniquely their own and no question to what they belong to. Very unique and beautiful. Thank you for the links btw

When people ask me that question, I always say, temples are a piece of heaven down here on Earth, when you're inside the temple, even just inside the temple grounds, you feel disconnected from the rest of the world, it's like you're looking down at Earth, you feel like you're somewhere higher. When I look at a temple, my first thought is that it doesn't seem to belong there.

This is so true. We were in the Nauvoo temple a few weeks ago for our endowments and sealing. When we were done and walked out it was pouring rain. It sounds like such a little thing, but it was almost shocking to us from being in such a peaceful, quiet, spiritual place to out in a rain storm. It probably took us a few hours to come back down after being in the temple all that time. We seemed to be a little off kilter.

The temples are also filled with the nicest people you will ever meet. Ever. I can't imagine being that sweet and helpful all day long.

Isn't that the truth? Whenever I think about being a temple worker when I retire, I think they're going to have to give me a mega dose of xanax or something to be that happy and nice.

Lakumi there are many videos of temple interiors on YouTube. Temples are open to the public before dedication and there are videos from broadcast news and other sources that show the interior of various temples around the world. There's nothing secret about the interiors - thousands of people, non-Mormons, go through them before dedication.

Are there any temple sacraments that are secret?

Nothing religious is secret anymore, what with the internet and people- not that you'd want to really talk to those sorts, but information aside, some person on the net you've never met with "the inner workings" can't take the spirituality from the experience (as so many people have said-is powerful)

You mind elaborating a bit Lakumi?

Don't forget as well, that when they're built, and before the dedication ceremonies take place, they do guided tours and show the whole place!!

The two times I've been to the temple (St. Louis and Provo), just walking inside makes it seem like my spirit is overpowering my physical form. It literally takes my breath away at times in the best kind of way.
