My wife loves weed

To put it simply, my wife smokes marijuana from time to time.

I love documentaries and she knows it. We've watched many documentaries that she proposed and I'm convinced weed hasn't killed anyone and is much safer than alcohol.

With the changes in the legal system regarding marijuana. Let's assume for one second the government really was wrong to class it as a drug. What would be so wrong with the herb in the eyes of God? I ask because she claims it's a plant that heals ailments (such as headache and cramps) without any side effects that other "drugs" may have, so it's something God actually wants us to use.

What are you asking?

A forum dedicated to a religious observance to obeying the law of the land is not going to justify your wife's drug use. There is a more relaxed attitude to it here in Canada, but it is still illegal in most cases. Its a complicated set of laws in regards to its use. I can suggest that prescription drug abuse is more of a problem than say something suffering from some acute ailment, smoking it for relief. Some days I prefer the weed smoker over the soccer Mom that is addicted to oxycodeine or some prescription that makes her high.

In some ways, I agree with what you stated about its safety and it does seem less self destructive than other legal means. Yet, I wonder about how it was obtained and by whom. Even if its harmless, how it was obtained is sometimes more important than what was obtained. I prefer not to think that I support the local crime family, with all its nastiness and associated crime. I am not saying thats your case, as maybe you grow it yourself, but its something to consider.

No, I have never smoked the stuff, nor will I ever.

Have you tried searching the forum using the Search Feature on this topic? See: Word of Wisdom? We've covered this ground in depth many times over.

At any rate, LoudmouthMormon has some pretty eye-opening facts about marijuana and how it isn't victimless.

I remember trying it once when I was 20, I got extremely paranoid and thought I was being spied on and that people were coming to kill me...

I had been told and have since been told that it "mellows you out" and that's just not true in my case.

Even if it was made as legal as alcohol and I became an atheist or whatever tomorrow I'd still never touch the stuff.

Hi Yussef,

Where does your wife get her pot? Is she doing business with people who also kidnap, murder, and sell child sex slaves? The transnational criminal organizations (can't really call them cartels any more) are horrible things - it's hard to cram more evil into an organization that will kidnap 11 yr old girls and sell them in other countries into a life of forced sex, wouldn't you think?

I mean, if your wife is dealing locally with a grower she knows personally, that's one thing. But if she buys from some guy on a street corner somewhere, her dollars may be supporting some pretty horrible things.

One would think that doing business with such people would indicate a problem, but people who do MJ tend to be incredibly unwilling to care. There are several threads on this site where people are willing to just ignore the horrible, because of the supposed blessings and boons of pot. I'd be interested to see if your wife is one of them.

As a former marijuana user myself, I know a lot about it. It may be harmless but it certainly isn't "good" for you. I eventually came to the conclusion that the devil tricks us with marijuana, he tries to convince us it is harmless etc etc but in reality there are many harms that come with smoking marijuana.

Nah man, it's a plant, if you want it there are much healthier ways to get it than pay 20$ for a gram or a gram.5 which is imho straight exploitation of people that just don't know... that it's just a plant. I agree with you, supporting organizations, and that is any organizations doing evil with you money, is unethical.

If the government decided today, as they did before for MJ, that roses are no longer good for you because they have thorns which may infect your cuts. Would you go to someone selling 1 rose for 100$ or would you.... your own garden ... EXACTLY, subject closed you got your answer.

Could you elaborate a bit on what you think those harms are, maybe I can use it on her. Thank you.

Well when I smoked, a lot of the times I watched pornography, I drank alcohol and I had the desire to experiment with some other drugs, thankfully I didn't. After you smoke weed for awhile it gets boring and most want to move on to something stronger. This was all before I got baptized, I haven't touched the stuff since before I got baptized and I feel better than ever. One of the main problems with it is when you smoke it, you forget about your faith.

My husband and I have used it. We do not condone the use of it now in any shape or form. There are many medicinal options out there that if used per doctor's orders, are a better option and legal.

What we mutually experienced and agree on from having used marijuana is that it makes you a slug, unassertive and below the bar of full potential. My husband used to have an electrical contracting business and he took it very seriously when electricians were found to use weed or other illegal mind altering substances while under his employment. He said that everyone needs to be alert when dealing with "hot" or live wires. There is a buddy system between a journeyman and his apprentices -- they must rely on each other for safety. So that's one reason why the stuff isn't great. It slows ya down, potentially lowering reactions.
