Hey there, everybody. My name is Valerie (obviously, lol). I live in Harrison, Ohio and was raised Protestant. I am 29, and I haven't felt like I have belonged in my religion/at my church for quite a number of years. I have a couple of friends that are Mormons and I am thinking of exploring the religion a bit more. I am currently trying to figure out where I belong. I hope that doesn't turn a lot of you off and think I am trying to join, just to join. I am trying to learn. I hope that's not how I am coming off. I have always thought there was an afterlife as well as a second change after death, which is one of the reasons I decided to look into LDS. I've also always believed that the Holy Spirit, is just that, a spirit. I've never thought of it as a person or part of a trinity and so on, so my friends think that I'm closer to the Morman/LDS religion than my birth religion. Again, I hope I haven't offended anybody.

Offended? Ha! I am not sure you could offend us. Welcome Valerie!

Welcome Valerie. I felt the spirit move in me when I read your post. As Loudmouth_Mormon stated... Gospel Principals is really straight forward and easy to understand. You will probably have lots of questions, but there are tons of people here that are willing to help.

I believe you have found where you need to be!

Thank you AngelMarvel, EarlJibbs and estradling75 for the welcomes!

@EarlJibbs You never know who you may, or may not offend... so I always hope I don't lol.

@estradling75 Thank you! The forum seems very helpful and active. Is there an official forum or is this as official as it gets (as far as message boards go)?

@AngelMarvel Thanks so much, that is a good, positive sign for me. I requested a copy of The Book of Mormon online from LDS.org website, requested to NOT have missionaries come to my home until I am ready with questions, etc as I wouldn't know what to say/ask until then. The lovely missionary I chatted to online, Ali, said I should receive it in about a week and she will call/e-mail to make sure I get it. That along gave me hope and made me feel good..

As far as I know there are no official forums for the Church... And by official I mean no one here can officially speak for the Church. We can link to such, we can quote such, we can offer advice, we can share experiences, we can give interpretation and understandings. All of which you will need to evaluate on how accurate it might be.

The only real authority here are the various mods and they are limited to what they feel is necessary and needful for the forums. To keep the forums running per the purpose and rules set up in the terms of service

As a new convert, let me highly recommend meeting the missionaries. They are trained to help us understand the church. You are starting on a new spiritual journey as I have started and I have not looked back since my baptism! Also, this forum has been very helpful for me to learn about the church and about how members deal with life, I encourage you to come back often and just read the threads!

May the Lord bless yu on your journey.
