KK03 Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 I would like to ask if anyone knows of some good resources I could look into for developing a belief in a higher power. I was raised LDS but have been inactive for the 11 years, but before that I never develop a solid belief in God. I would say I had a hatred for God. I haven't made the best choices, but I'm now working on things. I would really like to develop a solid belief/understanding of God. What books/articles/etc are good for figuring out things? I know there are the scriptures but is there anything else? Quote
Lakumi Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 I don't think anyone can tell you what to believe in, my belief in God is different then the traditional LDS view, though I see a lot of positive things the LDS church has to teach. It didn't shape what I believed, life did, but it gave me a few things to ponder.Offering you a book that worked for me, is probably a bad idea since you and I don't think alike, you are you not me, or anyone else. One should, really find their own belief in their own heart. Backroads Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Resources sounds so... formal. Handing you a scientific treaty on the possibility of deity isn't going to do squat.Pray. Meditate. Read scriptures. Take long walks in nature. Quote
Palerider Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Sincere heartfelt prayer is a good start Quote
NeuroTypical Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Hi KK03, and welcome. I never develop a solid belief in God. I would say I had a hatred for God.That's a very interesting perspective. Sounds like you come from an interesting place - where you're not sure if God exists, but if He does, you had feelings of hatred for Him. For what it's worth, you're hardly the first person to come from such places.I would suggest you read the Bible and the Book of Mormon, to learn about who God is, and why He's actually a good guy. To develop a solid belief, I'd focus on the Book of Mormon, the following sections:Alma 32:27 But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words. Moroni 10:4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. From one reformed heathen to a prospective reformed heathen, I got my fingers crossed for you! :) Quote
Quin Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 Hatred is an easier place to work from than disbelief. Because you actually already DO have to believe / have belief in order to hate. Q Quote
