When you've had a really epic-ally awful, horrible start to your morning, how to you get past it and not let it color the rest of your day?

Very good question. Like the drowning your sorrows thread.

I'm blessed to have a flexible schedule. I usually play the Scarlet O'Hara mantra - "I'll think about that tomorrow (or I'll do that tomorrow). After all, tomorrow is another day!".

So, I end up pushing things I don't like to do to tomorrow and pile the day up with things I like to do. I've been known to take my kids to an impromptu ice-cream trip in the middle of winter just to counter my S.A.D. days.

I get busy doing something and generally forget it, at least to a large degree. This tends to work better for my weekdays than my weekends but if I have a bad morning on a weekend I can always hunt down Beefche and make her give me a hug.

I take extra time on hair, make-up, and clothing. Staying in pajamas and whatnot tends to make me feel worse. I take an extra long shower or, time-allowing, a nice bubble bath, and I get outside into the fresh air.

You just come here and let Suzie give you a little TLC, and tell you that you are loved, appreciated and valued. And that no matter how awful your morning started, the fact that you are alive to make it another day it's a wonderful blessing. :)

I just had a really tough meeting with my kids' principle this morning, and it was kind of the cherry on top of the Week of Eowyn Doing Everything Wrong.

I try to listen to LDS music (not just MoTab). I also get busy doing something I enjoy, if at all possible. Or... I just change the entire direction of the day. If it was going to be a stay at home, clean house, grocery shopping for Sunday (like today normally is) then I switch it up and quilt or sew instead of clean, and if there's a little money without a name on it the mall instead of grocery store. Or reading in bed. Or reading lds.net as Wingnut suggested.

Mostly definitely start with Prayer.

I'm sorry it was a tough day yesterday. I know it feels like you were doing everything wrong but you weren't. Some distance from it all might help you see you did the best you could under the circumstances.

I hope today is better.

Sometimes when something really negative happens to me and I can't get it out of my head, I will either read a light-hearted book, or watch a romance comedy. I have to do something to get the thoughts out of my head. And for me, I can't be watching negative drama, I already have enough in my life. Give me a happy ending, where I can cry happy tears. This doesn't take the negative out of my life, but it helps me to forget about it, even if just for a little while.
