pam Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 Are you talking about a dress to get baptized in or to wear to your baptism? The first one no as it is only mesh between the bustline and waist. That would be against church standards. Quote
Meerkatarmy Posted March 9, 2014 Author Report Posted March 9, 2014 No to wear to baptisim, it is my understanding I will be given a jump suit for the actual baptisim. Quote
pam Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 I like the 2nd and 3rd link. More the 2nd link. Quote
Meerkatarmy Posted March 9, 2014 Author Report Posted March 9, 2014 Is the 4th a bit short for church? Quote

Dravin Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 (edited) The short of it is any dress that would be appropriate for regular Sunday wear would be appropriate for attending your baptism. To throw in my two cents about the specific dresses suggested:Link 1: The mesh in the midsections would give me pause in recommending this. The mesh in the shoulders depends on just how opaque it is, that can be pretty difficult to determine unless you're in person. I suppose if it is overly transparent one could layer to counter it, which is easier done with the shoulder than the midsection but I think as a general guideline I'd suggest avoiding mesh in anything that isn't the sleeves (and still then I'd recommend it be opaque).Link 2: My concern would be having it ride up when you sit down, so I'd keep that in mind when/if you try it on. Also garment bottoms are styled to extend to the knee, it's a longer term consideration but you might find that your dresses that go just to the knee have a habit of riding up past your garments when the time comes that you start wearing them.Link 3: Similar to the above. One thing to consider though, and this is a long term concern, is that non-mesh part of the sleeve doesn't extend far enough to cover a garment sleeve. So once you are endowed and wearing garments you'd need to layer to adjust for that.Link 4: I'd say that one is too short even before considering garments. As a general note I'd recommend longer dresses, mid-shin or so to eliminate concerns about riding up and to ensure they'll never pose an issue with garments. Likewise I'd recommend a sleeve that goes mid-bicep for similar reasons. Edited March 9, 2014 by Dravin Quote

Meerkatarmy Posted March 9, 2014 Author Report Posted March 9, 2014 I have gone with 2 but not in pink, I'd worry I'd look like a giant jelly bean, I'd like my first dress in years to draw is as little attention as possible Quote

Dravin Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 Do I start wearing garments after my baptisim? Hard to find out info on them onlineYou wear them after you are endowed in the temple, which would be a minimum of a year after baptism. Quote
pam Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 Do I start wearing garments after my baptisim? Hard to find out info on them onlineNo you don't. YOu have to wait until you are ready to go to the temple to receive your endowments which is usually about a year after baptism. Quote

I refused to wear it when I had my baptism and was able to wear a skirt and shirt in white just layered. That was only 4 years ago. I just had to make sure my skirt was tucked between my legs when I entered the water so it didn't float! Quote
Roseslipper Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 I like the 2nd dress the best....You dont wear garments till about a yr after u are baptized and thats if you desided to go to the temple for yourself. Quote

But it does help to relieve any stress about finding something to wear to be baptized in. Especially when the baptism itself only takes a couple of minutes. Quote
Meerkatarmy Posted March 10, 2014 Author Report Posted March 10, 2014 I think buying a whole outfit for a 2 minuete process is a tad wasteful of my limited resources Quote
Meerkatarmy Posted March 12, 2014 Author Report Posted March 12, 2014 I have now found this dress which I love but is it too dressy? Clothing at Tesco | F&F Signature Embellished Belt Chiffon Maxi Dress > dresses > Dresses > Women Quote
notquiteperfect Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 I don't think it's too dressy but the sheerness at the top may not be the best. I *love* the shift dress (option 2 in op) in either color and it's even less expensive. Nine days and counting... :) Quote
Meerkatarmy Posted March 13, 2014 Author Report Posted March 13, 2014 Hmm wonder if I could wear a cardi or something. I love it more than the shift dress.9 days seems so far yet so close Quote
Suzie Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 I am very thrifty (okay already call me cheap) so the question is how often will you wear this dress after your baptism day? Quote
Meerkatarmy Posted March 13, 2014 Author Report Posted March 13, 2014 That is what I thought. It would be too dressy for a normal service. To make it ok for church I was having to buy a shrug which was going to be another £40/$60 which is just wasteful and was taking me away from the importance of the day and focusing on looking pretty. My covenant is much more important. Second dress it is Quote
