Traveler Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 I have yet to study anyone, other than Jesus Christ, that so loved his fellow man that was more forgiving and compassionate toward others than Joseph Smith Jr. It does not surprise me that some can find flaws in Joseph - the ancient scribes and Pharisees found flaws in Christ but none of the critics of such greatness have demonstrated themselves to be less flawed than of Jesus or Joseph. Jesus said: "Let them that are without "flaws"/sins cast the first stones." Anyone can point out a flaw but if they cannot offer a better example, their witness is false and a lie and Satan is their inspiration. Joseph lived his faith and died a martyr for his belief - which of any of his critics has come even close? The Traveler Quote
prisonchaplain Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 As a matter of focus, it might be good for us to remember why people criticize the character and actions of Joseph Smith Jr. They believe him to be a false prophet. They either have prayed, and not received a testimony to his revelations, or they are simply convinced by his claims and teachings that what he says happened, did not. So, his life is examined under a historic microscope for any evidence that might confirm these doubts. To a much lesser extent, has not the same been done to Walter Martin, Ed Dekker, etc.? I'm not sure people are trying to be mean or harsh, so much as they are trying to justify their conclusions. Such an approach makes for poor history, but it is common feeding for apologists of all stripes. Quote
