Adomini22 Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 What does it mean to you? Why is it important?Main reason is to take the sacrament, renew covenants, and be uplifted and taught at the same time. A prophet long ago said that the sacrament is the most important part, but I see benefits in grouping together to be taught and feel the spirit. Quote
sixpacktr Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 Sacrament meeting has a two fold purpose: First, it gives us the opportunity each week (except for SC and GC) to partake of the sacrament, the token of our covenants with the Savior, and, Second, it gives us the opportunity to be taught doctrine. The Bishop (or his counselor if he is gone) or the SP or other PH authority over them preside at this meeting. Their only job during the entire meeting is to make sure that we receive a properly blessed sacrament by someone that is worthy (as far as he can tell) and to make sure that no false doctrine is preached over the pulpit. That is why church meetings should NEVER be closed out until the last speaker has spoken, so that the Bishop or other presiding authority can get up and correct any false doctrine that has been taught. Being taught doctrine is what changes men's hearts, not the social aspect or anything else. Pure doctrine and testimony will change attitudes and hearts. The sacrament portion of the meeting is the most important part of our week. It gives us an opportunity to reflect on what Jesus Christ has done for us in dying for us, in giving us a fighting chance to live again with our HF. It is also, if taken worthily, a way for us to renew our baptismal covenants and BE CLEAN BEFORE GOD AGAIN, to have our sins remitted and have an outpouring of the spirit. It centers our focus once again on what is truly important, and I know when I miss the sacrament I feel it. To be clean again--How precious that is! On another post someone stated that he had blessed the sacrament unworthily but he felt that God honored the PH and blessed that bread/water for everyone in spite of him. I'm not sure I agree. While I don't think that others will be punished for so foolish an action (AoF 2), that person blessing the sacrament will have a lot to pay for unless it is repented of. It is blasphemy of the first degree to know that you are unworthy to preside over the sacrament of the Lord's supper. And I'm not sure that the Lord does bless that bread/water if that PH holder is unworthy. The PH can only be used when worthy, and if someone were to perform an ordinance like that, then the sin would be magnified because that person did not allow others to have their sins remitted because the authority wasn't there...To me it would be like going to a porn show and then coming home and finding your wife had a heart attack and needed a blessing immediately. Surely the Lord wouldn't punish the wife because the husband was a jerk, would he? He wouldn't be punishing the wife, because the PH holder's actions made him ineligible to exercise his authority, and weak as any other man. I think that PH authority would be gone, and the Lord had nothing to do with the husband's inability to exercise it--it was all on the PH holder. But like I said, I'm not sure of that. But it makes sense to me... Quote

I have friend who does the same. He is a freelance speculative/horror short story writer. I've mentioned him on this site before. He works in the Provo Temple Cafeteria. Some of his most disturbing ideas come from his shifts there. My ideas focus on urban issues and observations about church itself.Aaron the Ogre Quote
