Celticpride Posted October 11, 2017 Report Posted October 11, 2017 Hi I'm new here and have been taught by four sets of missionaries, and the elders who were teaching me set a date for my baptism on Oct 26th, but both of them got transferred. And now sister missionaries take their place, I'm very frustrated because I have no one to baptize me now. The elders knew what my situation was, but the sisters I will have to tell, I really want the elders to baptize me, should I just wait to be baptized? I try going to church but always get sick or something happens. Thank you Quote
zil Posted October 12, 2017 Report Posted October 12, 2017 Welcome, @Celticpride! I don't know the rules, but it cannot hurt to tell the sisters the names of the Elders you would like to be involved in your baptism and ask them to find out whether that can be arranged. The sisters cannot baptize you, so someone else will have to be found. Prayers and good wishes for your efforts to attend church! Jane_Doe and Celticpride 1 1 Quote
Celticpride Posted October 12, 2017 Author Report Posted October 12, 2017 Thank you so much and I'll do it, I just don't feel comfortable with strangers baptizing me haha, I will have to see if it will work or not zil 1 Quote
Jane_Doe Posted October 12, 2017 Report Posted October 12, 2017 Hi @Celticpride, welcome to the forums and the Church! You can have any LDS priest baptize you you wish (assuming of course they are willing and currently worthy). If a certain missionary really touched you, you can request that they come back for your baptism. Or if there's someone in your ward you're close with. Etc. Feel free to simply ask! Celticpride Posted October 12, 2017 Author Report Posted October 12, 2017 The missionaries taught me and I'm very shy and won't walk up to a guy and say the elders have transferred and will you baptize me, I would feel awkward haha Quote

It can be awkward. Take my word on this-99% of priesthood holders will be flattered and view it as a huge blessing. I've baptized two people and I still think about and pray for them. Even grouchy people who hate everything like @Vort would be honored to baptize you. Edited October 12, 2017 by MormonGator Quote

The sisters you're working with now can inquire about that for you, if you would like. Celticpride 1 Quote

Celticpride Posted October 12, 2017 Author Report Posted October 12, 2017 I just don't know why I feel uncomfortable with having others baptize me, but would love the missionaries do it, it will be the last time I see them anyway, Quote

It was very weird for me to ask someone to baptize me as well. While I would never speak for @LadyGator, I think she felt the same way. And it may not be the last time you see them or talk to them. I still talk to 55-60% of the missionaries I've met through the church. Edited October 12, 2017 by MormonGator Quote
Anddenex Posted October 12, 2017 Report Posted October 12, 2017 I don't mean to be a party pooper; however, in most missions (unless your missionaries were zone leaders) the chances are they won't be able to come back and baptize you. Now, in saying this, this is up to the mission president of the mission you preside in. I know this wasn't allowed in my mission (unless you were a zone leader or AP). You can build new relationships with other individuals in the ward you will be attending. As you move forward, it will all work out. Someone will baptize you that you know. As others have shared, express the concern you have with the Sister missionaries. They will express this concern to their district leaders, and probably the ward mission leaders. Through this open communication a decision will be made. I understand it can be frustrating; although frustrating, it doesn't change the Church being true to not true The Lord bless you in your efforts to follow Him. Quote

Celticpride Posted October 14, 2017 Author Report Posted October 14, 2017 I regret not having them baptize me haha. Could I ask other missionaries I see at church to baptize me? This frustrates me a lot, I now wander why did I not let them baptize me before they left! It sucks Quote
